Southern Nevada Health District launching site with free mental health resources


LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — The Southern Nevada Health District is rolling out a new website with free mental health and well-being resources.

It’s part of a partnership with CredibleMind, an online digital mental health platform.

According to a press release, you can visit ClarkCountyThrive.crediblemind.com and find “credible, evidence-based mental health and wellness information along with tools and resources designed to build individual and community resilience.”

Health district employees said you can find over a dozen scientifically-reviewed assessments to learn about topics like anxiety, depression, burnout, substance use, and identify well-being support services.

Resources are available in English and Spanish.

There are also thousands of vetted apps, podcasts, articles and videos across a range of topics as well as tool to help users focus on building skills to improve their mental and emotional well-being at work, home and in the community.

Users must be at least 13 years or older to create an account. Users who are 18 and older who create an account and. take the Mental Health Check-in assessment will be entered to win a $100 gift card from CredibleMind.

Account activation is not required to access the site and its resources. All information provided is confidential, according to the health district.

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Have you ever wondered why state and local government offices close on Nevada Day? Or what does Nevada Day even stand for?

Nevada Day marks the anniversary of the “Battle Born” state being admitted to the Union by Abraham Lincoln on Oct. 31, 1864, during the Civil War, according to a proclamation signed by the governor.

Governor Joe Lombardo signed the proclamation, which continued the tradition to celebrate the rich history and accomplishments of the Silver State, according to the government document.

In observance of Nevada Day, residents should expect the following offices to be closed:

  • City Offices
  • Clark County School District Offices
  • Libraries
  • Nevada Division of Insurance

Officials encourage Nevadans to enjoy the festivities offered across the valley in honor of those who helped shape what Nevada is today.

Nevada inmate’s death ruled as homicide, coroner says


LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — An offender within the Nevada Department of Corrections system has died from a stabbing, officials said.

According to a press release from NDOC, Dylan Walters, 33, died at University Medical Center on Oct. 27. He was serving 16 to 40 months at High Desert State Prison for attempted grand larceny.

Officials said he came to NDOC on April 18 last year from Clark County. According to the coroner, he died from multiple stab wounds, and his manner of death was ruled as a homicide.
