Mountain lion attacks 5-year-old picnicking with family at Southern California park
A five-year-old boy has been hospitalized with serious but non-life-threatening injuries after a mountain lion attack in Southern California over the weekend.
The big cat has since been euthanized by California state rangers, according to officials on Tuesday.
According to a statement from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, the mountain lion attack occurred at Malibu Creek State Park, which is west of Los Angeles.

The boy was part of a group picnicking with friends and family from Woodland Hills.
“One or more adults charged at the lion, and it released the boy,” said the California Department of Fish and Wildlife in a statement. “Multiple witnesses saw the attack and observed the mountain lion climb up a nearby tree.”

According to the statement, the boy was airlifted to nearby Northridge Hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries and was released early Monday morning.
Officials said the mountain lion was euthanized with a firearm while the animal remained in the same tree. Rangers deemed the mountain lion a threat to the public. The big cats rarely attack humans.

Only around 20 mountain lion attacks have been confirmed in the state of California. Three of those attacks have been fatal, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife said earlier this year.

Earlier this year, one man was killed and another seriously injured in Northern California after a mountain lion stalked and pounced on the two brothers. They had attempted first to scare the big cat away before it attacked.
“CDFW and State Parks officials are thankful that the family is safe, and the child is recovering and no one else was injured,” the statement concluded.

Hulking four-star Arizona OL commits to Cal over Washington football
The Washington Huskies saw one of their most hotly contested offensive line targets in the 2027 class go elsewhere on Saturday afternoon when four-star offensive lineman DaJohn Yarborough announced his pledge to the California Golden Bears
The 6-foot-5, 340-pound product of Basha High School in Arizona, who is ranked as the nation’s No. 426 overall prospect and No. 25 interior offensive lineman by the 247Sports Composite, picked coach Tosh Lupoi and the Golden Bears out of a final four that also included Florida State, Mississippi State, and UW.
Although his junior year was cut short due to a fractured ankle, Fisch and offensive line coach Michael Switzer kept up a strong relationship with the hulking prospect, who has the size, physicality, and skill set the pair looks for from early contributors up front. However,
“The big man slides smoothly in pass protection and balances his weight well, always finding himself on the winning end of collisions with defenders,” Huskies Wire’s Alex Katson wrote in an evaluation of his film. “With such prototypical size and technique, Yarborough profiles as a player who could find himself in the NFL rather quickly with the right coaching staff during his time in college.”
As Washington continues to build up its offensive line for the rigors of the Big Ten, Yarborough would have been viewed as a promising building block alongside Freshman All-American John Mills, former five-star Kodi Greene, and former four-star Champ Taulealea, who should make up the core of Switzer’s unit in 2027.
While the Huskies had consistently been viewed among the top suitors for Yarborough’s services, but Lupoi’s staff has shown early that it can make a big impact quickly on recruits all over the West. Without Yarborough, Washington’s 2027 class consists of three offensive linemen: four-star interior prospect Gecova Doyal, four-star center Reis Russell, and three-star offensive tackle Tye Kennedy.

4 arrested, 3 cited after brawl following Giants vs. Rockies game at Oracle Park
Four people were arrested and three others were cited following a fight that took place following a San Francisco Giants game at Oracle Park Thursday night.
According to San Francisco police, the fight broke out at 9:46 p.m., after the matchup between the Giants and Colorado Rockies in which San Francisco won 8-2. Officers working at the ballpark responded and detained seven people who were involved.
A preliminary investigation by police determined that the altercation was result of a verbal dispute that turned physical.
Officers said they developed probable cause to place four people under arrest. Police identified those arrested as 29-year-old Major Norton of Suisun City, 21-year-old Jaylynn Del Toro of Fresno, 23-year-old Elijah Ortega- Garcia of Selma in Fresno County and 26-year-old Gisselle Lopez of Vallejo.
All four were booked into San Francisco County Jail on suspicion of disturbing the peace and public intoxication. Norton was also booked on suspicion of assault likely to produce great bodily injury.
Three people were cited for disturbing the peace and released. Police did not provide additional details about the fight.
In a statement to CBS News Bay Area, a Giants spokesperson said the incident “was a horrible and intolerable display of behavior.”
“SFPD made multiple arrests and those involved will be banned from the park,” the team added.
The Giants are in the middle of a four-game series with the Rockies, which concludes on Sunday. Both teams are at the bottom of the National League West standings heading into next week’s All-Star break.
