JEROME, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — The College of Southern Idaho men’s soccer team played a scrimmage against the College of Idaho on Saturday and were defeated by the Coyotes 6-1.

College of Idaho opened the scoring in the fifth minute with a goal from Grant Embree and just five minutes later Eric Hornung made it 2-0.

In the thirty-eighth minute CSI got on the board with a penalty kick goal from Amin Ahssain to trim the lead to one.

But one minute later the Yotes added a goal from Keldin Green and went into halftime up 3-1.

In the second half the Yotes scored goals two minutes apart in the fifty third and fifty fifth minutes off the boots of Pierre Fabre and Pol Romero respectively.

And finally in the sixty-fifth minute the Yotes made it 6-1 on a Zane Davis goal and that is where the score would stay as the Golden Eagles fall 6-1 to a solid C of I team.

Up next for CSI is their first Scenic West Athletic Conference game on the road in Reno, Nevada next Saturday where they will take on Truckee Meadows Community College with kickoff set for 2:30 p.m.

Three people were killed and two others injured in a shooting at a home stemming from a dispute between neighbors on Saturday night in Hawaii, police said. The shooter was also fatally shot by a resident, who was arrested on a second-degree murder charge.

Witnesses reported that a 58-year-old man was using a front-end loader to ram cars into the home where a family gathering was taking place, then opened fire at people gathered in the carport, fatally shooting three women at the residence in Waianae, a community about 30 miles west of downtown Honolulu, Honolulu police detective Lt. Deena Thoemmes said at a news conference.

At some point, a 42-year-old man who lived in the home fatally shot the suspect with a handgun, she said at a news conference. A police spokesperson did not immediately respond to a telephone message or an email asking for details about why the resident was arrested.

The women who were killed were 34, 36 and 29, Thoemmes said. A 31-year-old man and a 52-year-old woman were taken to the hospital in critical condition, she said.

The suspect, who was not identified, had four 55-gallon drums containing an unknown fuel in the front-end loader, Thoemmes said. Witnesses reported that he fired rounds into them but police have not confirmed that yet, she said.

The shootings are the latest of several shootings in recent weeks in the area that have led to police to pledge to work to fight gun violence, Police Chief Joe Logan said at the news conference. But he said Saturday’s shootings were not related to the earlier ones. He suggested it would be difficult for police to prevent such a targeted act stemming from a dispute unless someone reached out earlier.

“There have been several incidents in the previous months and weeks, but this incident is not related to those. This incident happened as a result of neighbors. So I want to reassure the public that this is not a random act, but a targeted one,” Logan said.

Prior to this incident, there had been three shootings in Waianae in a span of about a week, HawaiiNewsNow reported.

Logan previously said there would be an increased law enforcement presence in the area, the station reported.

“The Honolulu Police Department is increasing, providing more resources in the areas of patrol and plain clothes,” Logan said. “We’ll be working with our federal partners, to saturate the area and to patrol the area in greater numbers.”

The Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018, more commonly referred to as the Farm Bill, is a crucial safety net for agriculture producers.

“We’ve been pushing for this new Farm Bill for two years now, and so we’re hoping that there’s a light at the end of the tunnel, and we’re pushing that it’s finished by the end of this fiscal year,” explained Boyd Heilig, president of the Montana Grain Growers Association (MGGA).

Half of Montana’s crop production is exported oversees, making the export markets critical to Montana farmers, and why MGGA is seeking additional funding for the foreign market development to be added to the new farm bill.

“The Farm Bill in 2018 was good, there’s nothing wrong with it, but we want some enhancements to crop insurance, that’s our number one priority, and some additional funding for market access programs and foreign market development,” said Heilig.

With the current 2018 farm bill, totaling $428 billion over the five years, 76% is in the nutrition category, 8.9% is in crop insurance, 7.3% is in farm commodity programs, and 6.8% is in conservation.

“Each time a Farm Bill is about to expire completely, they throw in an extension because they don’t want to revert back to the program where the farmers get paid what it costs to produce their crops,” said Walter Schweitzer, president of the Montana Farmers Union.

While the fate of the Farm Bill is unknown at this time, Montana farmers are fighting for more funding to protect agriculture production, and with that, national food security.

“Either they’re going to pass some sort of version during the lame duck period, which is between November and the end of January, or they’ll wait until the new president and congress are sworn in to pass a different Farm Bill,” said Schweitzer.

“We know that nothing is going to get done with the Farm Bill until after the election. But we as Montana Grain Growers, we’re pushing to get this farm bill done,” Heilig added.

If another Farm Bill isn’t passed, federal nutrition programs including SNAP are what will be hit the hardest.

In the last Farm Bill, more than 300 billion dollars was allotted for SNAP programs, meaning that funding would no longer be available, taking away those benefits.

“You don’t have one without the other. And the way I see it is we produce these products, this food, these food products, and so if they go into food programs, that’s just a win-win for both of us to give to the needy but use our food that we raised as part of it. And so that’s why it’s always been together, and it hasn’t been separated, so that’s where a lot of the lines are drawn because they don’t want any cuts to SNAP, and the farmers don’t want any cuts to their programs. And so that’s where the typical argument is of the dollars needed, and where do they go,” shared Heilig.

The MGGA has no interest in seeing that happen; they are seeking to keep that funding there, while also allotting more funding to the crop insurance and market access programs.
