“We evaluate tasks that come to us, asking for her funding,” Shockley-Zalabak mentioned. “However we additionally counsel issues which may additional our neighborhood or the state of Colorado. We’ve labored with over 85 totally different organizations and used 42 earlier plans, to tell this plan. So there’s a substantial amount of enter. We’ve built-in their considering and their ideas as a result of the earlier plans did not combine fixing the issues that our creeks have.”
The creek undertaking acquired an unspecified grant from Hill, which was used to rent a guide — the Denver-based Greenway Basis — to check the place and the way creek enhancements will be made.
Shockley-Zalaback added that such a undertaking has by no means been funded by philanthrophy.
“Most imaginative and prescient plans start with non-public funding,” she defined. “The best way we’re doing it, it permits us to get private and non-private assist in a while. It is very thrilling.”
The plan appears to be like at bettering Monument Creek from the Popcycle Bridge close to the Interstate 25 and Fontanero Road interchange, via the place it drains into Fountain Creek, to the place Fountain Creek flows south of downtown alongside I-25 and Nevada Avenue and Tejon Road.

The creek plan is modeled after the success Denver has had with comparable tasks alongside the South Platte River over the previous 40 years.
“What occurred in Denver led to turning uncared for areas into main, in style points of interest that spurred every kind of improvement, together with residential improvement that offered inexpensive housing,” mentioned Jeff Shoemaker, govt director for Greenway. “I do not assume it can that lengthy to understand the imaginative and prescient right here as a result of we’re already forward of the sport. We’ve the curiosity in it and the desire to do it.”
Related creek improvement tasks have already been performed within the metropolis, most not too long ago on the east finish of Cheyenne Creek within the new Creekside retail improvement.

Two Colorado players redshirt for remainder of the season
Deion Sanders announced that veteran linebackers Trevor Woods and Jeremiah Brown have opted to redshirt for the remainder of the season. This decision comes after both players participated in the first four games, with their absence against UCF marking the beginning of their efforts to preserve a year of eligibility. Woods, who has been a pivotal part of the Buffaloes since joining in 2021, transitioned from safety to linebacker midway through the previous season. Throughout the 2023 campaign, Woods accumulated 56 total tackles and two interceptions. However, his production this season has been limited to just 14 total tackles, including one tackle for loss. Notably, he played a crucial role in securing Coach Prime’s first victory at TCU, showcasing his ability to perform in critical moments.
Brown brought significant experience to the linebacker corps. Having spent his first two college seasons under Coach Prime at Jackson State, he made the transition to Colorado smoothly. His contributions have been modest this season, with six total tackles to add to the 11 he recorded last year.

With Woods and Brown now sidelined, LaVonta Bentley and Nikhai Hill-Green are expected to take on greater responsibilities in the inside linebacker positions. Additionally, Jaylen Wester, who is the younger brother of standout wide receiver LaJohntay Wester, has emerged as a promising option following an impressive performance against UCF. As Colorado navigates the rest of the season, the coaching staff will need to rely on this emerging talent to maintain their defensive strength.

As for Woods, he started nine games last season but has yet to record any stats this year. He will have one year of eligibility remaining to use next year either at Colorado or elsewhere if he decides to transfer.
Even with the missing players, the Buffaloes dominated Saturday’s contest against UCF to improve to 2-0 in Big 12 play. They rushed for a season-high 128 yards in the win as quarterback Shedeur Sanders also threw for 290 yards and three touchdowns to one interception.
