Texas DNC delegate robbed at gunpoint by suspects in ski masks in Chicago: report

A Texas delegate in Chicago for the Democratic National Convention (DNC) was robbed at gunpoint early Wednesday by men in ski masks, according to a local report.

The victim, 25, was walking in downtown Chicago with a friend at around 2 a.m. in the 100 block of West Randolph when a black Range Rover pulled up alongside them, and two armed men got out, CWB Chicago reports.

The suspects then swiped the victim’s wallet and room key, according to the report. It is unclear how much cash or how many cards, if any, were inside the man’s wallet.

The perpetrators then crossed the street and robbed a man and a woman, CWB Chicago reports, citing a Chicago Police Department (CPD) spokesperson.

Police say the suspects are responsible for a string of robberies across the city and issued an alert about their criminal activity, CWB Chicago reports. The pair are described as Black males dressed in black and wearing ski masks. They stand between 5 feet 7 inches and 5 feet 9 inches tall, according to the report.

CPD confirms a 25-year-old man was robbed, corroborating the local report, although they are unable to say if the victim was a DNC delegate. No injuries were reported, police say.

Police also say that a 37-year-old male and a 40-year-old female were robbed by the pair seconds later.

The DNC 2024 Joint Information Center tells Fox News Digital it does not comment on specific victim information.

DEMONSTRATORS SHOUT ‘F— YOU’ AT POLICE, MORE THAN 70 ARRESTED ON 2ND NIGHT OF DNC

The robbery, on the third day of the DNC, came on the same day that the Chicago Police Department recorded nine shootings, one of which was fatal, and a stabbing.

That compares to five shootings involving 12 victims with one fatality on Tuesday and eight shootings, four of which were fatal, on Monday.

Over the weekend leading up to the convention in downtown Chicago, 26 shooting incidents involving 30 total victims, five who died, were recorded.

The violence comes as police have managed to mostly contain the chaos in and around the convention site as hundreds of anti-Israel demonstrations continued for a third straight night.

Former President Donald Trump has hammered Democrats and Vice President Kamala Harris over their record on crime. Chicago has a population one-third the size of New York City yet outpaces it in homicides, police statistics show.

Fox News’ Christina Coulter contributed to this report.

2 in custody after stolen vehicle pursuit in Los Angeles; driver still at large

Two people are in custody while police continue to search for the driver of a suspected stolen vehicle who led authorities in a chase that ended in the area of East Los Angeles.

It’s unclear exactly what time officers with the Los Angeles Police Department’s Hollenbeck Division initiated the pursuit, but just before 11 p.m., Sky5 located the suspect in the westbound lanes of the 60 Freeway.

The driver transitioned to northbound lanes of the 710 Freeway before exiting at Ramona Boulevard and continuing the chase on surface streets.

As the suspect took the chase onto North Eastern Avenue, near East Sheriff’s Road, he slowed the vehicle to a stop, jumped out with his hands up and fled on foot.

Sky5 captured the suspect as he climbed a fence and jumped into a parking lot, not far from the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department training facility.

When Sky5 left the scene, the search for the driver continued.

Arizona man accused of threatening to kill Trump nabbed after manhunt during former president's border visit

After a manhunt Thursday, Arizona authorities arrested a man they say threatened to kill former President Trump before a planned campaign event in the Copper State.

The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office told Fox News Digital it took 66-year-old Ronald Lee Syvrud into custody without incident. He was arrested around 2:30 p.m. local time in Cochise County.

Cochise County public information officer Carol Capas told Fox News Digital Syvrud made threatening posts on social media targeting Trump over a period of two days.

The sheriff’s office said earlier that Syvrud has outstanding warrants from the state of Wisconsin for DUI and failure to appear for DUI and from Graham County, Arizona, for hit-and-run and felony failure to register as a sex offender.

Syvrud is listed on the Wisconsin Department of Corrections sex offender registry for “second-degree sexual assault of a child” with an Arizona address.

Court records reviewed by Fox News Digital show Syvrud was most recently charged with assault in June, but that was dropped in July.

The sheriff’s office posted on Facebook that Syvrud was being sought “as an investigative lead for threats to kill a presidential candidate” but later confirmed that it was Trump specifically.

Additional charges against Syvrud are pending.

The threat against former President Trump’s life comes after the assassination attempt on the Republican presidential nominee during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, last month.

The sheriff’s office told Fox News Digital there are “no known ties to Pennsylvania, and we are working with local, state and federal agencies.”

The former president held his first outdoor rally Wednesday since the assassination attempt, speaking behind a wall of bulletproof glass at a podium in Asheboro, North Carolina.

Trump was visiting the southern border in Cochise County, Arizona, Thursday while continuing to campaign for the November election. He’s been spending the week campaigning across battleground states.

At a press conference Thursday afternoon, Trump appeared unaware of the manhunt when asked for comment. The former president said he was aware it might be “dangerous” for him to be there, but “I have a job to do.”

“I haven’t heard about that. They probably want to keep it from me,” Trump said, when asked to respond to the manhunt. “Thank you for telling me. Let’s get out of here, right now,” Trump joked. He again thanked the reporter for telling him.

Trump then pivoted to remarks on the assassination attempt in Butler, saying he has “great respect for the Secret Service” who jumped “on top of me with bullets flying.”

“I have great respect. But, no, I haven’t heard that,” Trump said, referring back to the manhunt. “But I’m not that surprised. And the reason is because I want to do things that are very bad for the bad guys.

Fox News’ Alicia Acuna later asked Trump whether the threats against him that sparked a manhunt made him want to change the way he does events.

“I’ve heard about that. But I have to do my job. It’s a job. It’s a dangerous job, but I have to do my job,” Trump said.

The U.S. Secret Service told Fox News Digital it was aware of and tracking the manhunt in Arizona and referred all further inquiries to the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office for further comments, including potential ties to Butler.

Alleged check forger, jewelry thief targeted elderly in Southern California

A 34-year-old woman from the harbor region of Los Angeles has been arrested and charged with four felonies after allegations she was stealing from elderly clients whom she worked for as a caregiver, officials announced earlier this week.

In a news release, detectives with the Palos Verdes Estates Police Department say Isela “Izzy” Ruiz, a resident of Wilmington, forged checks stolen from elderly victims, cashed them and stole jewelry from their homes.

An investigation into the 34-year-old led to her arrest on Aug. 18 in the city of Carson, police said.

The following day, authorities at the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office charged Ruiz with four felony counts in connection with the investigation.

Investigators believe there are likely more victims and ask anyone with information about this case to contact PVEPD Det. Joe Marino at 310-378-4211 by email at jmarino@pvestates.org.
