Suspects wanted for massive street takeover, store looting in South Los Angeles

Police are searching for a large group of suspects involved in a massive street takeover and destructive looting of a store in South Los Angeles.

On June 10 at around 3:50 a.m., hundreds of people gathered for a street takeover at Century Boulevard and Hoover Street in the Vermont Vista neighborhood, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The large crowds illegally blocked the streets while drivers performed dangerous stunts such as donuts and burnouts, police said.

At the same time around 50 to 75 people from the street takeover headed over to an AutoZone store on the 600 block of West Century Boulevard and ransacked the shop.

The thieves escaped with around $67,000 worth of stolen merchandise, authorities said.

Inside his vehicle, police discovered around $1,200 worth of stolen goods. Sanchez was arrested and later charged with second-degree burglary, organized retail grand theft, and reckless evading of a police officer.

The LAPD’s Organized Retail Crime Task Force is asking for the public’s help to identify the additional suspects involved. Images of the suspects were captured at the AutoZone during the destructive looting.

“The suspects have shown a complete disregard for the safety and property of others,” said LAPD. “There is a wide range of suspect descriptions, but the suspects are believed to belong to street takeover groups.”

Anyone who recognizes the thieves or has information on the case is urged to call LAPD’s Organized Retail Crime Task Force at 818-374-9420 or email ORC@lapd.online.

Police are asking the public for help Tuesday in their search for a hit-and-run driver who struck a bicyclist in the Vermont Knolls neighborhood of Los Angeles earlier this month and left him lying in the street with severe injuries.

The incident occurred just before 10:30 p.m. on Sept. 2 as a 63-year-old man was riding his bike on Hoover Street near 79th Street.

The bicyclist fell to the ground and was struck by a sedan traveling northbound on Hoover Street as he was trying to get up, the Los Angeles Police Department stated in a news release.

“The vehicle failed to stop, render aid, and remain at scene as required by law,” the Police Department stated.

Southern California family's dog recovering after vicious coyote attack

Southern California family's dog recovering after vicious coyote attack

An 18-pound Chihuahua terrier mix named Sammy is recovering at the vet after being mauled by a coyote over the weekend at his owner’s Shadow Hills home in an attack that was caught on surveillance cameras.

The terrifying ordeal occurred Sunday morning around 10 a.m., according to Sammy’s owner, Vickie Sampson, who said she happened to be looking out the window to check the clouds when she saw the coyote with her beloved 14-year-old dog’s neck in its mouth.

She said she banged on the second-floor window and flew down the stairs to get outside and scare the wild animal off.

Sampson’s home security cameras captured the coyote on what appears to be the side of their property, creeping up the driveway, pausing and then moving toward an entry of the home where Sammy was.

From another angle, the coyote is seen stalking the dog from behind a bush before rushing toward Sammy just out of view of the camera’s view.

Moments later, the coyote is seen pulling the struggling and whimpering Sammy down the path by his neck.

That’s when Sampson said she shook a jug full of rocks to make a lot of noise and the coyote dropped the 14-year-old dog, jumped over the fence and ran off.

The Shadow Hills homeowner, who said there are lots of coyotes around her home, but that she’s never seen one that early in the morning, rushed Sammy to the emergency vet.

“He did have two puncture wounds because the coyote grabbed him around the neck dragged him,” Sampson explained. “No broken bones, but he might have a puncture in his trachea. He hasn’t eaten anything because it probably hurts to swallow.”

Fortunately, Sammy is expected to be okay, though Sampson said the vet wants to monitor him for another night due to the bruising on his trachea.

A GoFundMe campaign has been organized to help Sampson defray the cost of Sammy’s mounting medical expenses as a result of the attack.

Sean 'Diddy' Combs arrested after grand jury indictment: report

Music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs was arrested Monday evening in Manhattan after being indicted by a grand jury, according to multiple reports.

According to reporting by the New York Times, the charges against the 54-year-old were not entirely clear, but the rapper, producer and entrepreneur has been embroiled in in a federal investigation and sexual assault lawsuits.

Agents with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security raided a mansion in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Holmby Hills in March, along with another one of his homes in Miami.

Combs’ attorney Marc Agnifilo told TMZ that they were disappointed with “what we believe is the unjust prosecution of Mr. Combs by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.”

“He is an imperfect person but is not a criminal,” his lawyer told TMZ. “To his credit Mr. Combs has been nothing but cooperative with this investigation and he voluntarily relocated to New York last week in anticipation of these charges.”

This is a developing story. Please check back for additional details.
