Disney Cruise crew member accused of child porn possession — third arrested on similar charges this year

Published

on

A Disney Cruise Line worker was arrested on child pornography charges, the third crew member at the cruise company to face allegations of child porn this year.

Tirso Neri, 44, of the Philippines, was a crew member on the Disney Dream ship.

U.S. Border Control and Homeland Security agents arrested Neri on Monday after discovering he had on his phone sexually explicit images and videos of children as young as 9 years old, according to a criminal complaint, Local 10 News reported.

The investigation into Neri began on Dec. 18 after agents boarded the Disney Dream ship when it arrived at the Port Everglades port in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, from the Bahamas and searched Neri’s cabin.

Two phones in Neri’s possession were confiscated by agents, who discovered “numerous sexually explicit photographs and videos of young children whose ages could not be definitely determined,” the complaint states.

It was later revealed that Neri had a folder on a device with the name of a minor victim. The folder contained several explicit photos and videos of the minor, as well as a photo of her Philippines passport that revealed her date of birth, which confirmed she was 17 years old at the time the material was taken.

Neri told officers at Port Everglades that he downloads adult pornography and purchases links containing the explicit content from different group chats on Telegram and Facebook Messenger.

He claimed he received the folder with the images and videos of the 17-year-old girl from one of the group chats and saved it to his phone without looking to see what it contained.

However, a forensic review of his phone later determined that the images were saved and viewed by the phone’s user.

Other videos later found on Neri’s phone allegedly show a boy, between the ages of 10 and 12, engaging in sex with a girl between the ages of 12 and 14 and a young girl naked with a man along with the text “9 years old delicious” written in Filipino across the screen.

Neri was charged with possession of child pornography and transportation of child pornography. He is being held at Broward Main Jail.

A spokesperson for Disney Cruise Line told Local 10 News that Neri was no longer employed by the company.

“In accordance with our zero-tolerance policy for this kind of alleged behavior, this individual is no longer with the company,” the spokesperson said in a statement.

Two other Disney Cruise Line employees — 49-year-old Alvin Gonzales and 28-year-old Amiel Trazo — were each arrested and charged in January with felony possession of child pornography. Gonzales and Trazo are also from the Philippines and worked aboard the Disney Dream.

Hammerhead shark in Florida caught on video circling paddleboarders

Published

on

Paddleboarders were greeted by a massive hammerhead shark while on their ocean adventure in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Video footage, captured by kayak company See Through Canoe, showed the large hammerhead shark zig-zagging around the pair of paddleboarders on June 6.

In a social media post, the company said that the ocean predator was so preoccupied by the tarpon that it largely ignored the humans.

“Hammerhead Shark chasing tarpon by people at the beach in St Petersburg, Florida yesterday,” the company wrote. “The shark passed under a couple paddleboarders and some of the tarpon were swimming really close to the shoreline and through people in an effort to avoid the shark.”

See Through Canoe said that the hammerhead was caught near the humans after it caught one of the tarpon and took a few bites

“This is when the paddleboarders came along, as the Hammerhead was circling around the dead tarpon, getting ready to go back for more,” the company wrote. “I don’t think they realized that they were paddling right over the Hammerhead’s meal.”

The company said that the hammerhead was about 50 feet from the shore.

Hammerhead sharks are native to Florida and can grow to be about 18 to 19 feet long, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

Hammerhead sharks are typically skittish around people, See Through Canoe said.

The sighting of the hammerhead shark in St. Petersburg came just one day before back-to-back attacks nearby.

The Walton County Sheriff’s Office said that the successive shark attacks were in “close proximity” to one another on June 7.

“We experienced two separate incidents earlier this afternoon in relative proximity to one another, about four miles apart and within an hour and a half from one another,” South Walton Fire District Fire Chief Ryan Crawford said.

Walton County Fire Rescue and South Walton Fire District responded to reports on Friday afternoon that a 45-year-old woman was attacked by a shark while enjoying the popular tourist destination.

Authorities said that the woman was swimming just beyond a sandbar with her husband when she was suddenly attacked.

She received “significant trauma to the midsection and pelvic area and amputation of her left lower arm,” Crawford said.

According to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office, two female teenagers were also attacked by a shark.

Crawford said that, similarly to the first attack, the victims were swimming by a sandbar in waist-deep water before they were attacked.

“Victim one received significant injuries to one lower and one upper extremity,” Crawford said. “Both [bites] required the application of tourniquets.”

The second teen victim received flesh wounds to her foot, and was taken by ambulance in stable condition, Crawford said.

Following the attack last Friday, law enforcement closed surrounding beaches in Walton County.

Trump-backed incumbent wins red state primary that split House Freedom Caucus

Published

on

In a primary that split the conservative House Freedom Caucus, incumbent Rep. William Timmons, R-S.C., fended off a challenge from conservative State Rep. Adam Morgan.

Prominent members of the House Freedom Caucus were split on who should get the nod to represent South Carolina’s solidly Republican 4th Congressional District in the northern part of the state, which includes Greenville and Spartanburg.

Timmons was endorsed by former president Donald Trump as well as conservative Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, Byron Donalds of Florida and Jim Jordan of Ohio. Morgan received the backing of Florida’s Matt Gaetz and House Freedom Caucus Chairman Bob Good of Virginia. Morgan chairs the South Carolina legislature’s version of the Freedom Caucus.

“Border security has got to be on the top of the list. Over 10 million people have crossed the southern border illegally in the last 3½ years. It’s unacceptable. We have to change the course. Our country can’t sustain it,” Timmons said, according to a report from Fox affiliate WSPA.

Timmons will face Democrat Kathryn Harvey and Constitution Party candidate Mark Hackett in the general election on Nov. 5. Timmons won the 2022 general election with 90.8% of the vote.
