West Virginia’s first high school gets therapy dog

WVSports – In-state TE Laughery adds West Virginia opportunity after camp
Winfield (W.Va.) 2025 tight end Toby Laughery grew up following the West Virginia football program so he was thrilled to receive an opportunity to play for the Mountaineers.
Laughery, 6-foot-3, 218-pounds, performed at the first one-day camp of the summer and his efforts caught the attention of tight ends coach Blaine Stewart.
“He said that I had a great camp and he really wants me to be a part of this team,” he said.
At the end of the event the in-state prospect received word that the Mountaineers were offering him a preferred walk-on opportunity from Stewart.
“I was in shock. West Virginia has been a dream of mine since I was a kid,” he said. “Being an in-state kid makes it ten times better.”
Stewart has been in contact with Laughery since he took an unofficial visit in the fall and he stopped by his school at the end of the evaluation period to invite him to camp. He is being targeted as a tight end and the coaching staff was impressed with his physicality, ability to catch in traffic and athleticism.
Laughery is no stranger to Morgantown as he’s been to several games in the past and has grown up a fan of the football program.
The plans for Laughery is to next make a camp stop at Marshall and then will head to Eastern Kentucky, Kent State, Appalachian State, Elon and Davidson. He also plans to head back to West Virginia for another look at the program in the fall.
Laughery still has a ways to go in his recruitment but the preferred walk-on offer from West Virginia is one that certainly has his attention at this stage of the process.

West Virginia Running Back Room Ranked Top 10 in College Football – Blue Gold Sports
According to rankings released by PFF college football analyst Max Chadwick, the West Virginia Mountaineers have the 10th-best running back room in college football.
WVU had one of the best rushing attacks in FBS last season, with over 3,000 yards gained on the ground. Freshman running back Jahiem White lead the attack with 842 rushing yards, averaging 7.7 yards per carry on the season.
White, was followed by sophomore running back CJ Donaldson, who had 798 rushing yards. Donaldson added the second-most touchdowns on the ground with 11, trailing only quarterback Garrett Greene.
The thunder-and-lightning combination of Donaldson and White is a running back duo that may continue to be highly revered come the end of next season, with White only emerging midseason in 2023. They are joined in the backfield by Jaylen Anderson, a rising redshirt junior who’s added over 400 rushing yards and three touchdowns in his career at WVU and incoming freshman Traevon Dunbar, who rushed for over 3,000 yards his senior year, becoming one of South Carolina’s top running back prospects.

Kanawha County Prosecutor to retire
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) – Kanawha County Prosecutor, The Honorable Charles T. Miller, hand-delivered a letter to the Kanawha County Commission on Friday afternoon notifying the Commission of his retirement effective June 13, 2024, at 5:00 p.m.
The Kanawha County Commission made the following statement:
“We would like to thank Prosecutor Miller for his dedicated service to the citizens of Kanawha County since his appointment in 2014. His leadership of the Prosecutors Office has been inspiring to all the Assistant Prosecuting Attorneys and staff. He will be greatly missed. He leaves the County with a legacy of unwavering dedication, integrity, and honor.”
Per W. Va. Code §3-10-8, the County Commission must appoint a replacement successor Prosecutor.
The Commission will accept resumes and cover letters for the position until June 7 at 5:00 p.m.
The cover letters and resumes should be emailed to the County Manager, Jennifer Herrald, at jennifer@kanawha.us or hand-delivered to the County Manager at the Commission Office at 407 Virginia Street, East, 3rd Floor Commission Office.
Interested applicants must possess a J.D., be licensed to practice as an attorney under the laws of West Virginia and be an active member of the West Virginia Bar.
