MAHAN, W.Va. — State police have released more information in connection with a chain reaction wreck on the West Virginia Turnpike that involved three tractor-trailers.
Troopers said Steve Loera, 22, of Hammond Lake, IN, lost control of control of his tractor-trailer heading north near the Mahan exit in Fayette County at around 11:20 p.m. Wednesday. Large plastic pipes that Loera was carrying dumped onto the highway and across the median wall.
According to investigators, two tractor-trailers heading south driven by Lorenzo Williams, 59, of Attoski, NC, and Emmeret Wheeler, 57, of Ocala, FL crashed after striking the pipes. Both trucks burst into flames.
All four lanes of the turnpike were closed for nearly four hours. It took crews several more hours to clean up the wreckage.
There were no serious injuries reported.
Williams was hauling plasma which was contained, troopers said.
