Virginia governor to headline Michigan GOP convention


Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R) is ready to offer the keynote speech at Michigan’s GOP conference as he campaigns for the state’s Republican gubernatorial nominee, Tudor Dixon.

Discuss has swirled over a possible presidential bid for Youngkin, who flipped Virginia purple when he beat former Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D) within the state’s 2021 gubernatorial race.

The Virginia governor is headed to Michigan to stump for former President Trump-endorsed Dixon, a conservative commentator who will face Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) within the normal election.

Youngkin has stated he’s “massively humbled” by requires a 2024 presidential bid, however hasn’t but selected the concept.

4 people shot at Virginia State University


ETTRICK, Va. (WWBT/Gray News) – An investigation is underway after four people were shot at Virginia State University overnight.

On Wednesday, around 12:30 a.m., Chesterfield and campus police responded to a reported shooting on Boisseau Street near Daniel Gymnasium.

“On scene, officers located four individuals that were shot. All four victims were transported to area hospitals for treatment,” Chesterfield Police said.

Police said all four people are expected to survive.

None of the victims are students, according to police.

Police have identified multiple suspects, and charges are pending.

It’s unclear if the campus is still on lockdown. However, police say there’s no threat to the campus community.

Classes are expected to start Monday.

Students begin classes at Southwest Virginia lab school


ABINGDON, Va. (WDBJ) – More than a dozen college laboratory schools are now under development in Virginia. And the first ones in our area are opening with the new school year.

Tuesday was the first day of classes for the SWVA HEALS program, or Healthcare Excellence Academy Lab School.

44 students from Smyth, Wythe, and Washington Counties and the City of Bristol are receiving instruction that will help prepare them for careers in healthcare.

Dante Lee is the director of the program.

“So we’ve got a lot of partners who got together and made this happen,” Lee told WDBJ7. “This has been about a two-year ordeal to get to this point today, but today is like the opening of a new school so we’re excited. Our kids were excited to be here.”

Meanwhile the new lab school at Roanoke College will start classes on August 28.

Explore@RC will give high school students the opportunity to take college courses and start earning a four-year degree.
