What is the Most Googled Vegetable to Grow in Tennessee?
Planning a backyard this summer time? The gardening consultants at AllAboutGardening.com say the most googled vegetable to develop in Tennessee is the potato.
Their analysis analyzed Google Developments knowledge to determine the vegetable that has highest search quantity for ‘the way to develop’ it in every American state prior to now 5 years.
Of their analysis, it revealed that potatoes had the best variety of states looking for them essentially the most, with a complete of 14 states, together with Tennessee, Utah, Illinois and Montana. Coming in second was cucumbers adopted by beetroots, carrots, and zucchini.
How you can Develop Potatoes
Skilled Logan Hailey from AllAboutGardening.com shares that one of the simplest ways to develop potatoes is to buy seed potatoes. There are some things to search for when shopping for seed potatoes. Be sure that “they’re disease-free and in good situation, in any other case they might rot within the floor, or worse, unfold a nightshade pathogen all through your backyard,” writes Hailey.
You may get licensed seed potatoes from a seed firm or backyard retailer.
By way of planting your potato seedlings, Haily counsel the next steps:
- Put together your backyard mattress by making 2-4” deep furrows, lay down the potatoes 2-3″ deep within the soil and canopy them up.
- Potatoes require full daylight to thrive. Select an space of the backyard that will get not less than 6-8 hours of direct solar every single day with no shade from buildings or bushes.
- Potatoes typically want 1 to 2” of water per week. Whether or not by means of rainfall or added irrigation, ensure that they don’t dry out. The soil ought to all the time be reasonably damp.
- A barely acidic pH (6.0 to 7.0) is greatest and will be achieved with additions of high quality compost, leaf litter.
- Mounding or hilling potatoes is the one laborious upkeep required for this crop. They completely want to remain underground to stop the formation of inexperienced skins with larger ranges of solanine. As soon as foliage has reached 6-8” tall, it’s time for the primary hilling. To hill your potatoes, use a hoe or rake to mound soil from the aisles up alongside the plant bases.
- Time for harvest. Potatoes take wherever from 60 -120 days to mature. All you want is a digging fork and a crate. First, push apart any further mulch on prime of the mounds. Dig the backyard fork a couple of foot away from the bottom of the plant to softly elevate the roots with out stabbing the potatoes.

Titans Defense Struggling in One Key Area
The Tennessee Titans defense has allowed the fewest yards through four games so far in the NFL season, and yet, the team is just 1-3 in the standings.
Sure, the offense has hindered the team a bit, especially in the turnover department, but the defense isn’t forcing turnovers, and that is also an underlying issue the team has to face during the bye week.
“The Titans’ defense didn’t force a turnover until Monday night’s win in Miami and have only forced one this season. Defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson brought an extreme focus on takeaways with him when he took the job. As secondary coach, Wilson’s units helped the Bears tie for second with 18 interceptions last season and the Eagles tie for third with 17 in 2022. Usually, teams produce what they emphasize. Wilson preaches “attacking the ball with aggressiveness” and “populating to the football.” But that hasn’t happened so far. Tennessee’s defense is last in the NFL with a minus-8 turnover ratio,” ESPN insider Turron Davenport writes.
The lack of forcing turnovers has been an issue that defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson has stressed before, but it has yet to be resolved.
Not having Jeffery Simmons active for the team’s Week 4 win against the Miami Dolphins may have been part of the reason, but other playmakers on the defense have to step up and make bold, aggressive plays.
The one takeaway the Titans have this season came on a poorly-thrown backwards pass from Dolphins quarterback Tyler Huntley that was almost gifted to Tennessee.
If the Titans want to get better on the defensive side of the ball, they simply have to be more aggressive. If they can do that after the bye, more wins could come their way, beginning with their Week 6 battle against the Indianapolis Colts.
