JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – Today was the start of the 34th year of the Celtic Fest. It is the second year that the fest has started with Demo Day.

Demo Day was from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. It is now open to everyone and not just those with children. It is a day set aside for observing and learning what different things the fest has to offer.

Suezen Brown, Director of Celtic Fest Mississippi, said that there are different demonstration stations set up around the fest.

“There’s Scottish dance going on, there’s Irish dance, Mississippi Forge Council is here with blacksmithing demos,” said Brown. “On our main stage we’ve got introduction to Irish and Scottish instruments – multiple instruments – happening right at the moment.”

The Mississippi Forge Council was a popular demonstration booth. The booth had items for sell that blacksmiths made themselves. They also actively made items behind the booth, so that attendees could observe and learn.

Lon Wimberley, President of Mississippi Forge Council, said their motto is “By teaching we learn.”

“Once a month we get together and do demonstrations and teach one another and try to pass our craft on to others.”

Don’t worry if you missed Demo Day because the fest started today at 4 p.m. and has many things to experience. Some of these things include the Highland Games Competitions, traditional musicians, Irish and Scottish dancing, ax throwing, booths, and more. So, if you want to attend, you can buy tickets online or at the door.

The fest will continue throughout the weekend until Sunday evening.

The final injury report has been released for Mississippi State vs. No. 5 Georgia on Saturday.

A dozen players have had a designation over the past two days on the first two reports for the matchup. None of the statuses for those names changed either from Wednesday to Thursday.

For Georgia, Smael Mondon and Tate Ratledge were still listed as out. They also had a pair that were questionable in Jordan Hall and Jared Wilson.

For Mississippi State, all seven of their names were out for this game in Athens. That included Blake Shapen along with three offensive weapons and three other players on the defensive side of the ball.

Here’s how the final report for these two teams looks ahead of kickoff between the hedges tomorrow:

Friday Injury Report for Mississippi State vs. Georgia

Georgia will be setting themselves up in this game for the next month of the season. They’re a favorite of nearly five scores tomorrow in Athens. From there, the ‘Dawgs will play four games against top conference competition, including three away from home. That stretch includes at Texas, their rivalry game against Florida, at Ole Miss, and then Tennessee.

Mississippi State, though, is just looking for any kind of win for their year. After winning their opener, they’ve lost each of their last four to Arizona State, Toledo, Florida, and Texas by an average margin of 17.5 points. Now, over their final seven, they’ll come out of their first bye week to play Georgia before meeting five other quality teams in the league in Texas A&M and Arkansas before closing with at Tennessee, Missouri, and at Ole Miss.

As the Georgia/Mississippi State game inches closer, here is how the Dawgs Daily crew members believe the game will unfold.

The Georgia Bulldogs are set to host the Mississippi State Bulldogs this Saturday as they continue their SEC gauntlet through the 2024 season. This will be the first meeting between the two programs since Georgia’s national championship season in 2022.

With preparations for this exciting matchup nearly wrapped up, here is how our Dawgs Daily crew believes that game will unfold.

Jonathan Williams: Georgia 41, Mississippi State 7

If there were ever a time for Georgia’s offense to really get things going it would be this weekend. Mississippi State has struggled to keep teams out of the red zone this season and teams are converting those red zone attempts into touchdowns at a high rate. Another factor going into this game is that Mississippi State’s offense runs at a very high tempo while also not being very effecient. That means their defense gets put onto the field a lot and is put into some tough situations. I expect Georgia to cruise this weekend and bring a lot of momentum into next week when they get ready for Texas.

Brooks Austin: Georgia 42, Mississippi State 10

There are way too many statistics and way too much film through five games to think this game shouldn’t be handle properly by Georgia. Mississippi State is dead last in the conference in explosive plays allowed, they are dead last in sacks, they are dead last in rushing yards allowed per game. Georgia is in need of a hot start and a confidence-boosting game and with the way Mississippi allows leads to be gained quickly, this is the one to circle. Mississippi State been down at points this season 35 to 3 vs Toledo, 28 to 7 to Florida, and 28 to 6 to Texas. Georgia should handle this one, and handle it early.

Christian Kirby II: Georgia 45, Mississippi State 9

While extremely efficient, Georgia hasn’t been explosive on offense up to this point in the season. However, although Mississippi State is an SEC opponent, they will probably not have much success keeping the Dawgs’ offense at bay. Look for Georgia to have an extremely efficient day on offense, even if they don’t have numerous explosives.
