Maryland hosting Holy Cross in first round of NCAA Women’s Tournament
BALTIMORE — The second-seeded College of Maryland opens the ladies’s NCAA Event on Friday in opposition to Fifteenth-seeded Holy Cross, the Terrapins meet the Crusaders at 2:30 p.m.
The winner of that recreation faces both seventh-seeded Arizona or Tenth-seeded West Virginia within the second spherical. The highest 4 seeds within the bracket in Greenville 1 Area are No. 1 South Carolina, No. 2 Maryland, No. 3 Notre Dame and No. 4 UCLA.
Maryland is led by Diamond Miller, who averages 19.7 factors per recreation. Abby Meyers is chipping in 14.5 factors per recreation and Shyanne Sellers is placing up 13.8 factors per recreation.
This marks the thirteenth straight season coach Brenda Frese has taken her crew to the “Massive Dance” and the 18th time total. They received the championship in 2006.
The Terrapins have been a No. 2 seed below Frese in 2021, 2016, 2012, 2007 and 2006.
“I feel the largest factor is, you may’t get too excessive or too low, and simply perceive it is the subsequent 40 minutes within the NCAA Event,” Frese mentioned Tuesday. “That is the largest takeaway. It’s a must to be the crew that is most locked in and most assured crew and able to lay it out for your entire recreation.”
Holy Cross (24-8) beat Boston College to win the Patriot League’s computerized bid.

Following Sunday’s loss to then-No. 7 Maryland, Iowa women’s basketball could’ve taken a tumble in the latest Associated Press top 25. However, the Hawkeyes are still ranked.
Iowa (12-3, 2-2 Big Ten Conference) remained at No. 23 after the 74-66 home loss to the Terrapins that snapped the Hawkeyes’ 21-game Big Ten home winning streak. It was a game in which Iowa fell behind by as much as 25 points before rallying to make things respectable in the second half.
Iowa will look to rebound Thursday night at Illinois. The Hawkeyes are 1-1 in conference road games, having stumbled at Michigan State in mid-December before pulling out an 80-68 win at Penn State on New Year’s Day. Tipoff at Illinois is set for 6 p.m. on BTN+.
