Kansas looks as if they might use a break from the robust Massive 12 slate, however there may be some query about how a lot of a break this truly is. Will Kansas have the ability to go on the street and feed off the vitality of the group? Or will the inside play of the Wildcats overwhelm KJ Adams and firm as they attempt to set up play within the put up? Our crew shares their ideas under.

The Kansas Jayhawks must hit the reset button. Who remembers when the unique Nintendo would freeze or throw a number of colours on the display screen and you would need to take out the sport, blow within the backside, and begin throughout from the start? That’s precisely what this basketball group must do. Easy layups have been a battle at instances which result in lengthy stretches of not scoring. The Jayhawks play behind most of the time and within the final three video games they might not overcome such great deficits. This subsequent sport will likely be no simple job as they sq. up towards one other blue blood, the Kentucky Wildcats. Jalen Wilson continues to hold this group, however this can be a group sport and desires assist. Kansas wants somebody to return off the bench and provide high quality minutes and rating some factors. I’m going to be watching Dajuan Harris. Harris is the epitome of the reset button. These days, he has made too many errors, turning over the basketball and never driving and scoring. I’m not asking for 20 factors, however Kansas followers know what we count on from Dajuan and we’ve not been getting it.

On a street journey within the late Eighties, younger me thought it might be actually cool to have cable TV within the automobile to move the time. However how? With an extended wire? Every other choices appeared inconceivable. It was simply by no means going to occur. Alas, we all know it has occurred. That is additionally the best way I really feel about Kansas shedding 4 video games in a row. Inconceivable. However KU is staring that within the eye as they journey to face a abruptly resurgent Kentucky group. Ought to I am going with 12 yr outdated me and consider the inconceivable or ought to I stand with the present actuality that Kansas has flaws and can most likely lose? I’m undecided how Kansas handles Oscar Tshiebwe, so I’ll take the inconceivable as KU falls for a fourth straight time.

There’s no method a Invoice Self-coached Jayhawks group loses 4 straight video games, proper? It appears inconceivable, but it surely’s definitely real looking given this matchup with Kentucky, who’s possibly figured issues out after a brutal stretch earlier this yr. I’ll have a look at this sport from a glass-half-full perspective and predict that Dajuan Harris gained’t have one other dangerous sport, that Jalen Wilson would be the greatest participant on the ground once more and that Self will someway assemble a top quality sport plan towards Oscar Tshiebwe, even when it contains the junkiest protection we’ve ever seen.

Kansas 75, Kentucky 74.

Andy Mitts

Just like the others have stated, this can be a sport that may simply go towards the Jayhawks, particularly given the contrasting types. Oscar Tshiebwe goes to be an issue on the within, however the Jayhawks do have choices. It’s tough to think about that Ernest Udeh and Zuby Ejiofor would get important minutes towards the Kentucky star, however they is perhaps higher matchups than KJ Adams. However Self may determine to attempt to use the velocity of Adams to maintain the Wildcats off steadiness, one thing that they have been in a position to do with nice success early within the yr.

However in the end, this sport goes to return right down to the perimeter. The Jayhawks will want Jalen Wilson, Kevin McCullar and Dajuan Harris to lock down on protection, and considered one of Joseph Yesufu or Bobby Pettiford must have a fantastic offensive sport. After all, all of that may very well be for naught if Gradey Dick goes again into his stoop.

Taking part in in Lexington, I simply get a nasty feeling about this sport. I actually hope I am unsuitable, however I simply can’t choose this group proper now, particularly in a non-conference sport towards a group that may simply benefit from a sluggish begin for the Jayhawks.

One more July announcement awaits Kentucky football

Why Kentucky Will POP in 2024

A busy recruiting weekend wrapped up on Sunday in college football. Kentucky’s class of 2025 currently sits at 17 commitments and is ranked No. 20 overall. With talking season starting this week, the Wildcats will now start to enter training camp mode heading into another football season, but there is still one more announcement on the horizon.

Louisville (Ky.) Male center Isaac “Spike” Sowells Jr. has a commitment announcement planned for Thursday, July 18. That is the same day that Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops is scheduled to take the podium at SEC Media Days in Dallas. Will the Wildcats get to 18 commitments before heading to fall camp?

Kentucky currently has four offensive linemen in the fold with three true tackle prospects and one guard prospect. Paw Paw (Mich.) High senior Darrin Strey is the highest-ranked recruit of the bunch. Spike Sowells could become the second-highest rated in Kentucky’s offensive line class. The in-state prospect was in Lexington for his official visit the same weekend Strey committed to offensive line coach Eric Wolford.

The high three-star prospect took official visits in June to South Carolina, Kentucky, Miami, and NC State. Dave Doeren‘s Wolfpack have emerged as the top contender for the in-state prospect in this recruitment. NC State has some real buzz heading into the decision. Can Vince Marrow and the Kentucky coaching staff close on Spike Sowells over the next 10 days?

We will find out soon.

Expect recruiting to slow down after the decision until the games begin in September. Most of the work on the trail in the class of 2025 has been completed. Kentucky is waiting for one more big announcement before season prep gets off and running in the Bluegrass.

Five dead after shooting at 21st birthday party in Florence, three wounded • Kentucky Lantern

Five people — four victims and the suspect — have died following a shooting that occurred in Florence early in the morning on Saturday, July 6. Three more people are in the hospital but are in stable condition, according to Florence Police, who are characterizing the incident as a mass shooting.

Police officers were dispatched to a house on Ridgecrest Drive at around 2:50 a.m. Saturday. By the time the police arrived, the suspect had already driven away from the scene, a written police statement reads. Four victims were pronounced dead at the scene and three more were transported to UC Hospital, where they are currently in stable condition and expected to make a full recovery.

Florence Police Chief Jeff Mallery identified the four victims at a press conference Saturday afternoon: 20-year-old Shane Miller, 20-year-old Hayden Rybicki, 19-year-old Delaney Eary and 44-year-old Melissa Parrett. One of the victims was the home owner.

“Our hearts and prayers go out to the families of the victims,” Mallery said at the press conference, visibly emotional.

LINK nky’s content sharing partner WCPO had crews on the scene and interviewed a neighbor, who said at around 2:15 a.m. after he left a party, he heard what he first thought were fireworks. At the press conference, Mallery added that police officers had heard gun shots upon their arrival at the house.

A 21st birthday party was being held for Parrett’s son at the time of the shooting, Mallery said.

Mallery said other partygoers told officers the shooter fled in a vehicle. Officers were able to track down the suspect and attempted to stop him near Farmview Drive and US-42, but the suspect fled again. A chase ensued. Finally, the suspect drove off the road into a ditch on Dale Heimbrock Way near Hicks Pike. The officers located the suspect with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gun shot wound. He was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital, where he died. Authorities don’t believe Garvey was invited to the party, but he was known by other partygoers, Mallery said.

The suspect has since been identified as 21-year-old Chase Garvey, who was a convicted felon from a previous sex offense, but Mallery said they don’t believe that is connected to the shooting. Records from the courts and the Department of Corrections indicate that Garvey was on probation for a felony charge of unlawfully transacting with a minor in 2021. He was sentenced to five years in prison, but the sentence was suspended in favor of probation on the condition he didn’t interact with the victim, didn’t commit any more crimes, engage in psychological counseling and maintain employment. He was scheduled to come off of probation in 2027.

Mallery said Garvey’s motive is still under investigation.

“We have never dealt with this before,” Mallery said. “I know it’s gone on throughout the nation, but this is the first time that we’ve had a mass shooting in Florence.”

4 killed in shooting at Kentucky home in US – The Statesman

Four people were killed and three others injured in a shooting at a home in Kentucky in the US on Saturday, police said.

According to the Florence Police Department, four individuals were declared deceased at the location, while three others were taken to a nearby hospital and are currently in critical but stable condition.

Officers responded to the residence at nearly 3 a.m. on Saturday and as they approached the home, they still heard shots being fired, Police Chief Jeff Mallery said at a press conference. People were attending a birthday pool party at that time.

The suspect, described as an adult male, fled the scene in a vehicle prior to police arrival, leading to a police chase. The suspect then drove off the road and crashed into a ditch. Law enforcement found the suspect with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, Xinhua news agency reported.

Party attendees recognised the suspect and provided his identity to the police. According to Mallery, he had a prior conviction for a sexual offence, though it does not appear to be connected to the shooting.

Officials said that an initial investigation indicated the suspect acted alone, and there is no danger to the public.
