Gwinnett County murder suspect dead after police pursuit in Columbia County, deputies say
AUGUSTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First/WRDW) – A Gwinnett County murder suspect is reportedly dead after a police chase near Augusta, the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies said the chase happened on I-20 eastbound near Jimmie Dyess Parkway near mile marker 193.
Deputies conducted a PIT maneuver on the suspect’s vehicle. The suspect, who has not been identified, then died by suicide, according to the sheriff’s office.
The Columbia County Coroner’s office says it was called to the scene around 8:45 p.m.

Woman injured in shooting on Brenda Court in Augusta
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – A woman was injured in a shooting in Augusta Sunday night, according to authorities.
The shooting happened on the 2700 block of Brenda Court around 9:34 p.m. Sunday, according to Richmond County deputies.
Deputies say while on scene, they learned two woman were involved in a verbal altercation that turned physical.
During the physical altercation, a gun was pulled out with one of the females, shooting the other at least one time, according to deputies.
The sheriff’s office says the investigation is ongoing.
This isn’t the only shooting that happened in Augusta over the weekend.
On Friday night, 21-year-old Heavaughn Brooks was killed in a shooting on the 1300 block of 10th Street.

Motorcyclist suffers life-threatening injuries in Augusta crash
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -A motorcyclist was badly injured following a crash Sunday morning, according to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to the scene of the accident at the intersection of Willis Foreman Road and Ulm Road around 10:37 a.m.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a hit-and-run on Oak Street. According to deputies, the accident happened Saturday at 4:31 p.m. on the 400 block of Oak Street.
A car was heading east on Willis Foreman Road and was trying to turn left onto Ulm Road when a motorcycle going west on Willis Foreman Road collided with the car as it made the left turn, officials said.
The driver of the motorcycle was taken to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating the crash.

Augusta man dies after shooting on 10th Street
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) — A late-night shooting in Augusta has turned deadly.
Richmond County deputies were called to the 1300 block of 10th Street just before 11 p.m. Friday. Investigators say several men were sitting on a porch when someone opened fire.
The victim, identified as 24-year-old Heavaugh Leigene Brooks, was taken to the hospital by a private car before deputies arrived. He died from his injuries early Saturday morning.
Deputies found a firearm and shell casings at the scene. The investigation is now being treated as a homicide. No suspects have been released.
