A humpback whale was caught on video breaching in Boston Harbor on Monday morning.
“I’ve lived in Winthrop my entire life and [have been] boating and fishing out in that space many instances,” Joe Fabiano, of Massachusetts, advised Fox Information. “Not as soon as have I [seen] a whale, so it was fairly wonderful to me.”
The video was recorded at 5 a.m. native time by Fabiano and Paula Brogna when the whales have been near Deer Island.
The Boston skyline is seen within the background.
In keeping with NBC 10, the whale was inside 100 ft of the couple’s boat.
Fabiano jokingly advised the outlet that Brogna needed to get as distant from the enormous marine mammal as potential.
This marks simply considered one of a number of encounters with whales off the Massachusetts coast in latest weeks. The Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries says that juvenile humpbacks have been feeding off native bait fish.
On the morning of July 24, a whale breached and landed on the bow of a small boat. There was nobody injured within the incident.
The Nationwide Marine Fisheries Service recommends that mariners keep a minimum of 100 ft from whales, “given the unpredictable conduct of whales and the potential security hazards concerned.”
In keeping with the Nationwide Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), humpback whales usually soar out of the water and slap the floor with their pectoral fins or tails.
They dwell all through the world’s main oceans and feed on small crustaceans like krill and small fish.

‘The future’s bright:’ Aliyah Boston, Kelsey Mitchell, Caitlin Clark react to All-Star nod
Clark, Boston, Mitchell named WNBA All-Stars: ‘Future is bright’
On the Fever’s Caitlin Clark, Aliyah Boston and Kelsey Mitchell being named WNBA All-Stars: ‘The future is bright’
LAS VEGAS — For the first time since 2007, the Indiana Fever have three All-Stars on its roster.
Rookie guard Caitlin Clark, second-year center Aliyah Boston, and seventh-year guard Kelsey Mitchell were named All-Stars on Tuesday night, taking up three of the 12 spots on Team WNBA.
Tamika Catchings, Tammy Sutton-Brown, and Anna DeForge were the last trio of Fever All-Stars in a single season. That 2007 Fever team went 21-13, making the Eastern Conference Finals.
“It’s a really, really big thing for our franchise, but I think more importantly, kind of shows like where we are as players, and what we aspire to be individually,” Mitchell said. “I think any great player, any great competitor has an All-Star somewhere down a list, and you know, we put in a lot of work, so it feels good.”
This year’s All-Star Game, which will be in Phoenix on July 20, is Team USA vs. Team WNBA. Team USA, which will represent the U.S. in the Paris Olympics, will use the All-Star Game as an exhibition.
So, there were technically only 12 open spots to be an All-Star — the other 12 were already taken up with WNBA players on Team USA.
Voting for All-Stars came 50% from fans, 25% from media, and 25% from players, and players on Team USA were able to get votes. The top-10 vote getters automatically became All-Stars, regardless Team USA status. The next 36 top vote-getters that were not on the Olympic team went to league coaches, and they filled out the rest of Team WNBA.
It’s the second consecutive all-star nods for Boston and Mitchell, who went to the 2023 All-Star Game in Las Vegas. Boston thinks it’s especially meaningful for Clark, the 2024 No. 1 pick who is an All-Star for the first time.
More: With Clark, Boston, Mitchell, Indiana Fever have three All-Stars for first time since 2007
“I think it just goes to show the talent that we have on this team,” Boston said. “It’s really amazing to be able to play together as an All-Star, but also I think this is really exciting for Caitlin being a rookie coming in and just having an impact the way that she does.”
All three Fever players will be on Team WNBA. Indiana is the only team to more than two players on that team. Las Vegas has four players on the Olympic roster, while Phoenix has three.
“It’s cool, obviously, for myself to accomplish this in my rookie year,” Clark said. “I’m just lucky to be with these two. … It’s big for our franchise, too, like, I think it just shows the talent behind us, and slowly just putting that together. The future’s bright.”

A little over two weeks ago, news broke that the Boston College men’s basketball team would be headed to the Cayman Islands from Nov. 24-26 to compete in the 2024 Cayman Islands Classic.
The Eagles are one of eight teams competing, as they join Boise State, Duquesne, Hampton, High Point, Missouri State, Old Dominion, and South Dakota State.
On Tuesday, it was revealed that BC’s first matchup will take place on Nov. 24 against Old Dominion at 7:30 p.m. ET at John Gray Gymnasium on Grand Cayman Island. It will mark the first time the two teams have met on the hardwood. The Eagles will face either Missouri State or High Point in the second round.
First-round games on the other side of the bracket include Hampton vs. Boise State and South Dakota State vs. Duquesne.
Here’s a picture of the full bracket:
BC logged a 20-16 record last season, which ended with a loss to UNLV in the second round of the NIT Tournament. The Monarchs closed 2023-24 with a record of 7-25, which was last in the Sun Belt Conference. Old Dominion’s season ended in the first round of the Sun Belt tournament with an overtime loss to Texas State.
“We are looking forward to participating in the Cayman Islands Classic,” Eagles head coach Earl Grant said when BC first learned it would be in the tournament. “This will provide our program with a great experience early in the season, competing against an outstanding tournament field in a beautiful setting on Grand Cayman.”
This will be the eighth tournament in the Classic’s history which started in 2017, however did not have an event in 2020 or 2021. Boston College will compete in the event for the first time in its history.
“We are thrilled to host the participating teams for the sixth annual Cayman Islands Classic,” said The Honorable Kenneth Bryan, Minister for Tourism and Transport in the same press release. “This event not only showcases top-tier collegiate basketball but also highlights the Cayman Islands as a vibrant destination for sports tourism.”
