Regardless of the hectic schedules, recruiting by no means stops, and this week as soon as once more offered some new updates on the recruiting path.
In an try to offer an summary of every part that occurred throughout the previous seven days, right here is the weekly recruiting rundown.
Basketball: 2023 SF Bubu Benjamin to formally go to
Greg Gard and the Wisconsin Badgers are seemingly all-in on Minnesota huge man Nolan Winter, who not too long ago took an official go to to Madison.
Nevertheless, with two obtainable scholarships for the 2023 class, the employees continues to be kicking the tires on a couple of wing prospects, together with Canadian small ahead Bubu Benjamin.
In keeping with Garrett Tucker, Benjamin will take an official go to to Madison over the weekend of September 16.
The 6-foot-7 wing may also go to Santa Clara in August and has not too long ago added scholarship provides from Lehigh, Montana State, and Northern Arizona after a powerful efficiency in Las Vegas on the AAU circuit.
Benjamin is representing Canada on the Nationwide U18 crew and is understood for his exterior shot and defensive talents.
Whereas the Badgers technically have two open scholarships for the 2023 class, there was loads of chatter that the crew would like to roll one again for the loaded 2024 class. If that concept holds, Benjamin may very well be a very good backup plan if Winter goes elsewhere. Winter not too long ago postponed his official go to to Minnesota, so it is going to be fascinating to see how Wisconsin navigates the timing of Benjamin’s go to and Winter’s resolution.
Beneath are some latest highlights of the 6-foot-7 wing:
Nonetheless with out a quarterback commit within the 2023 recruiting class, the Wisconsin Badgers proceed to scour the marketplace for potential sign callers.
Earlier this week, Steve Wiltfong of 247 Sports famous that the Badgers expressed curiosity in Iowa quarterback Jaxon Smolik on the time of his decommitment from Tulane. Following Saturday’s fall apply, offensive coordinator Bobby Engram was requested in regards to the crew’s method to quarterback recruiting this cycle and if he sees the employees bringing in a quarterback. Here’s what he needed to say:
“I feel you undergo the method such as you usually would. You do not rush something. I feel we now have some good expertise recognized that we’re going to look to do a senior eval on. We’ll get our man.”
Primarily based on the latest curiosity in Smolik and Engram’s assertion, it seems as if the employees continues to be planning to herald a freshman quarterback. With highschool soccer occurring quickly, the Badgers will probably wait on seeing senior movie from the primary couple of video games earlier than extending any new provides.
A few names to doubtlessly know:
- Three-star QB Parker Leise (IMG Academy, Florida)
The Badgers have been in touch with Leise for a while, and he was excessive on their recruiting board after tenting at Wisconsin over the summer season. Leise will likely be taking part in at IMG Academy this fall, and he might see his recruitment take off with an enormous senior season.
- Three-star QB Raheim Jeter (Spartanburg HS, South Carolina)
Wisconsin had Jeter as much as camp with the crew a few years in the past, however the Badgers didn’t supply on the time. He not too long ago backed away from his longstanding pledge from West Virginia on the finish of July although and has since added a proposal from Rutgers. With good dimension at 6-foot-3 and plus athleticism, Jeter suits the mould as somebody the employees might goal if he performs properly early this fall.

Better Know A Badger – 2025 four-star lineman Hardy Watts
Better Know A Badger – 2025 four-star lineman Hardy Watts
MADISON, Wis. – It turned out that Luke Fickell had no reason to worry.
The University of Wisconsin head coach was hopeful that the results on the field wouldn’t cause members of his highly ranked third recruiting class to start rethinking their commitment or, worse yet, reopen their decision-making process entirely.
From the time the Badgers’ 2024 season ended without a bowl game for the first time in 23 years to the first day of the early signing period, Wisconsin’s staff only saw one prospect de-commit. Twenty-three kids signed paperwork to join Fickell’s program, a class that ranks 20th in the Rivals.com rankings with 10 four-star recruits from eight different states.
“To see guys not waver,” Fickell said. “That faith and belief that the games and what you see on Saturday isn’t everything. For those guys to hold with us and believe in us … relationships, trust, and belief in this process still win out.”
Adding depth to the offensive line, we look at the signing of Brookline (MA) Dexter’s Hardy Watts and how his addition improves the program.
Stats
Watts worked all over the offensive line during his high school career, but he spent this past season working primarily at right tackle. It was a position that his school needed him to play and the spot where he felt the most comfortable. It benefited him, as Watts earned all-conference recognition.
“I think I improved my chemistry and my ability to work as part of a unit, rather than making plays and flashy blocks,” Watts said. “I was learning the footwork of certain types of blocking and steps. I really refined what was already there and brought it back to working as part of a unit, making sure I am not messing up any assignments, and consistency.”
Recruiting Competition
The 17th commitment in Wisconsin’s 2025 class, Watts committed to the Badgers over a top group that included Clemson and Michigan. Watts also had two dozen offers from Power-Four schools like Alabama, Georgia, Miami, Penn State, Tennessee, and Texas A&M.
“There were a few schools that never stopped pursuing me,” Watts said. “They were some new schools that came forward with an offer, but I just politely declined, explained to them the situation that I was locked in and wasn’t going anywhere.”
