NBA Draft Scouting Report: Kansas’ Flory Bidunga

Although he’s an undersized big from a height standpoint, Bidunga makes up for it with great length and elite athleticism. He’s naturally gifted from a physical standpoint and is well-developed for his age. He’s one of the most athletic frontcourt players in the country and has an NBA-ready frame that still has more room to add strength and bulk.
What makes Bidunga special is how well he moves at his size. Not only can he bully players with his strength, but he’s also incredibly fluid and mobile. The Kansas freshman is an elite rim runner who gets out in transition and makes things happen. His top speed is unmatched for a player of his size.
In both transition and halfcourt settings, Bidunga is an incredible lob threat. He spaces the floor vertically with his effortless bounce and dominant explosiveness. He moves with assertiveness and great mobility when diving to the rim. While Bidunga isn’t super effective yet at putting the ball on the deck and getting to the rim on his own, he’s fantastic at establishing position and getting the ball in the post. He boasts good footwork and can overpower defenders. The Kansas prospect is a good scorer once he’s gotten deep in the post and loves the lefty hook — leveraging his dominant hand.
Bidunga is not a floor spacer as of today and his free throw shooting hasn’t been great to this point. But he still brings a ton to the table even with a more traditional big skillset. He can step out and knock down shorter midrange shots, but his game is generally predicated around the paint. He’s a phenomenal rebounder on both ends of the floor and plays with great energy when crashing the boards.
On the defensive end, Bidunga is a very good shot blocker with his athleticism and natural feel from a timing standpoint. He sometimes gets lost defensively, so he needs to become more disciplined as a team defender. Even then, his physical tools allow him to be disruptive on that end, as long as he doesn’t get in foul trouble.
The former five-star recruit has only been playing basketball in the United States for a few years. He is originally from Congo, Africa and is still rapidly improving. Bidunga plays with energy, effort and hustle while also radiating positive energy. He is a great team player and is just now scratching the surface of his potential.

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – Kansas Insurance Commissioner Vicki Schmidt testified in favor of a bill to help Kansans save on some insurance costs Monday.
The bill, HB 2430, would create the Insurance Savings Account, giving Kansans a state tax-free way to save for property and casualty insurance expenses.
If the bill is passed, it would allow Kansas tax filers to open an Insurance Savings Account and make contributions up to a set amount, depending on their tax filing status.
“Insurance Savings Accounts are a sustainable way for Kansans to save state-tax free for their insurance costs,” Commissioner Schmidt said. “As the legislature works to address affordability, they should include this tool for Kansas families.”
Account holders can then use the money contributed to pay for property and casualty expenses, along with home and auto insurance and any associated deductibles.
Married couples who contribute the maximum payments to an ISA could save up to $670 on their taxes each year.
The bill was heard in the House Committee on Taxation on Monday, Jan. 26, this being the second year it’s been proposed to the Legislature.
Schmidt recently announced that the department has recovered over $202 million for Kansas policyholders since taking office in 2019.

EL DORADO, Kan. (WIBW) – One person suffered serious injuries in a single-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon on icy Interstate 35 along the Kansas Turnpike in Butler County, authorities said.
The crash was reported at 2:35 p.m. Sunday on northbound I-35, about a mile south of El Dorado.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2017 Hyundai Sonata was northbound on I-35 when the driver lost control of the car on the icy, snow-packed roadway.
The car then entered the east ditch and began to roll.
A passenger, Dylan Lee Hapner, 20, of Wichita, was transported to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita with serious injuries.
The driver, Ashley Nichole Seamans, 22, and another passenger, Hadleigh M. Wilson, 2, both of Wichita, also were transported to Wesley Medical Center with suspected minor injuries. The patrol said all of the car’s occupants were wearing their safety restraints.

EMPORIA, Kan. (WIBW) -The Emporia Police Department has located a deceased female just yards away from the area where Rebecca Rauber was last seen before she went missing.
Authorities say during their investigation on Sunday, an additional video showed Rauber in the 700 block of West 4th Ave. around 11:44 p.m. on Friday.
Rauber was found about 300 yards south of West 4th Avenue, where she was last seen on video. Rauber was found in a wooded area.
Officials say at this time, it appears that Rauber may have succumbed to hypothermia early on in her disappearance. She was found covered in snow due to the snowstorm that became heavy on Saturday, Jan. 24.
EPD detectives are currently processing the scene, and the investigation is still continuing.
