Why the rest of the schedule matters for Iowa men’s basketball

Excellent news, Iowa followers! For all the low factors of this season the place it felt just like the NCAA Event had slipped out of the fingers of the Hawkeyes, postseason dancing seems to firmly be within the plans for Iowa.

After their large comeback victory over Michigan State, it seems as if Iowa is a protected guess to make the event at this level. Most Bracketology predictions have the Hawkeyes as a No. 8 seed. With how excessive the standard of play has been within the Huge Ten this 12 months, Iowa now feels protected no matter how they end out the season.

With that in thoughts, let me let you know why these video games towards Indiana and Nebraska in addition to the upcoming Huge Ten Event are extraordinarily essential for Iowa.

To start out out with, it is best to by no means depart any potential room for error. Certain, it could seem to be a lock that Iowa will likely be within the NCAA Event, however there are not any ensures. It’s like within the UFC, don’t hope for the judges to bail you out on standards. Make an announcement that you just should be on this sport.

Iowa has an enormous likelihood to show themselves as true contenders with the remaining few video games and to reply some critical questions. Whereas no person is anticipating them to stroll into Bloomington and knock off a highly-ranked opponent in No. 13 Indiana, this can be a nice alternative to indicate that they will compete exterior of Carver-Hawkeye enviornment.

The struggles on the street have been effectively documented for the Hawkeyes this 12 months. 9 of their 11 losses have come exterior of their house enviornment. That features two impartial web site video games towards TCU and Duke, although they narrowly defeated Clemson on impartial floor early within the season.

If the Hawkeyes are going to do something this March, they should show that they will win wherever the venue. They’ve the chance to take action with these remaining video games and to only construct that confidence normally.

Even when they made it within the event after three straight losses, it might be extraordinarily laborious for anybody to rally round this workforce as an actual contender to do something. Iowa would develop into this 12 months’s simple pick-against in your March Insanity bracket. None of us need that in any respect.

Successful each or not less than splitting the 2 remaining common season video games towards Indiana and Nebraska would go an extended strategy to inspiring confidence across the Hawkeyes as soon as once more. A robust displaying within the Huge Ten Event would as effectively.

Momentum for the Huge Dance and determining woes away from Carver are the 2 most essential items of tonight and the subsequent a number of weeks for Iowa.

Colley’s Method was created by Wes Colley, Ph.D., an astrophysicist at the University of Alabama at Huntsville. He devised his algorithm to help address the subjectivity and controversy regarding BCS college football selections in the 1990s and early 2000s, using a method that used no subjective variables.

Iowa Coach Fires Brutal Quote at Players Leaving Via Transfer

The Iowa Hawkeyes lost two players from their football team this week.

Both running back Leshon Williams and wide receiver Kaleb Brown have announced that they will redshirt for the rest of the season and enter the transfer portal at the end of the year.

Despite the two players opting to leave the program, it hasn’t phased head coach Kirk Ferentz. He isn’t worried about the decisions that they made at all.

When asked about Williams and Brown transferring, Ferentz offered a short and brutal quote.

“Not to be callous, but if a player isn’t playing, you don’t lose much.”

Williams had been dealing with an injury throughout the season thus far. Before the injury, he had shown flashes of being a player that could end up making an impact. Unfortunately, those flashes were never able to come to light on the field.

As for Brown, there were big plans for him coming into the season. But, he was suspended for the first game of the year and was never able to earn his role back.

Clearly, Ferentz is not worried about how his team will respond to the news. Basically, he doesn’t think the losses of them will impact the team at all.

Ferentz isn’t necessarily wrong with what he stated. Neither player had a role that will change how the team has been operating. However, it was the way he said it that was a bit out of line.

Regardless of the role that they players had, handling the situation with a bit more grace would have been a better look.

All of that being said, Iowa is not a program that needs to be graceful necessarily. The Hawkeyes want to win football games and neither Williams or Brown was contributing to that goal so far this year.

Looking ahead to the future, we wish the best to both Williams and Brown. Hopefully, they find success in their future endeavors.
