Bracketology: Iowa State falls in bracket, now on NCAA Tournament bubble after loss to West Virginia

Iowa State is now not seemingly invincible at residence. The Cyclones misplaced to West Virginia 72-69 at Hilton Coliseum for his or her third residence lack of the season and eighth loss of their final ten video games whole. Iowa State has now fallen to 11-12 towards the highest three quadrants.

That places them extra in step with Oklahoma State and West Virginia than the opposite Large 12 groups within the area. They’ve a greater total document than these two, which is saving them for the second, however with their poor run of play and remaining schedule, I am including them to the bubble. In the event that they lose their two remaining video games – at Baylor and the primary spherical of the Large 12 Match – the committee might need to swallow onerous to place them within the area.

They’ve fallen all the way down to a No. 8 seed in Tuesday’s bracket. That might be the perfect seed ever given to a group that was under .500 towards the highest three quadrants within the 30 years I’ve been doing brackets. Due to the power of schedule within the Large 12, it’s not unreasonable to suppose {that a} group from that league with such a document might get somewhat larger seed than earlier than, however not a lot.

One other odd factor concerning the Cyclones schedule is that each one however 5 of their video games are both Quad 1 or Quad 4. In order that Quad 1-3 document doesn’t get a lot assist outdoors of Quad 1.

Evaluate their résumé to their in-state rival, Iowa. The Hawkeyes and Cyclones are every residence courtroom heroes, with simply 4-9 information off their residence courts. Iowa has the head-to-head end result, which was performed at Iowa, naturally.

Iowa is one sport forward of Iowa State in total document and above 13-10 towards the highest three quadrants largely on account of eight Quad 2 wins.

It’s onerous to say which the committee would favor in seeding – the group with the face to face end result or the group with the stronger schedule. It’s a good factor recency bias is not an element or ISU may not be within the bracket in any respect proper now.

Michigan has changed Oklahoma State on the backside of the bracket following the Cowboys loss at residence to Baylor. OSU has a highway sport left with Texas Tech earlier than the Large 12 Match.

SBLive’s formula was created using its linear algebra-based ranking algorithm inspired by the Colley Bias-Free Ranking Method. Colley’s Method was created by Wes Colley, Ph.D., an astrophysicist at the University of Alabama at Huntsville. He devised his algorithm to help address the subjectivity and controversy regarding BCS college football selections in the 1990s and early 2000s, using a method that used no subjective variables.

Iowa Coach Fires Brutal Quote at Players Leaving Via Transfer

The Iowa Hawkeyes lost two players from their football team this week.

Both running back Leshon Williams and wide receiver Kaleb Brown have announced that they will redshirt for the rest of the season and enter the transfer portal at the end of the year.

Despite the two players opting to leave the program, it hasn’t phased head coach Kirk Ferentz. He isn’t worried about the decisions that they made at all.

When asked about Williams and Brown transferring, Ferentz offered a short and brutal quote.

“Not to be callous, but if a player isn’t playing, you don’t lose much.”

Williams had been dealing with an injury throughout the season thus far. Before the injury, he had shown flashes of being a player that could end up making an impact. Unfortunately, those flashes were never able to come to light on the field.

As for Brown, there were big plans for him coming into the season. But, he was suspended for the first game of the year and was never able to earn his role back.

Clearly, Ferentz is not worried about how his team will respond to the news. Basically, he doesn’t think the losses of them will impact the team at all.

Ferentz isn’t necessarily wrong with what he stated. Neither player had a role that will change how the team has been operating. However, it was the way he said it that was a bit out of line.

Regardless of the role that they players had, handling the situation with a bit more grace would have been a better look.

All of that being said, Iowa is not a program that needs to be graceful necessarily. The Hawkeyes want to win football games and neither Williams or Brown was contributing to that goal so far this year.

Looking ahead to the future, we wish the best to both Williams and Brown. Hopefully, they find success in their future endeavors.
