GOP candidate delivers blistering closing message as most expensive Senate race in history comes to a close
BELLBROOK, OHIO – Ohio Republican Bernie Moreno is making his closing pitch to voters as one of the most closely watched Senate races in the country and the most expensive in American history enters its final days.
Moreno addressed a large group of enthusiastic supporters on Saturday night in Greene County, Ohio, and also spoke to Fox News Digital about what he hopes undecided voters know about his race against incumbent Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown.
“Sherrod Brown is too liberal for Ohio,” Moreno said. “I’m for Ohio. He’s for they/them. The reality is I’m going to work every single day to make the lives of Ohioans better. Sherrod Brown has failed: 200,000 manufacturing jobs lost, Generationally high inflation, instability in every corner of the world. He’s for the Green New Deal. He doesn’t represent Ohio’s values.”
“He’s too liberal for Ohio. I’m going to make a change. I’ll work hard every single day and always remember that voters are in charge.”

After trailing Brown in most polls all summer, Moreno has pulled virtually even with Brown in the last few weeks. Moreno was asked whether he is “nervous” about the race given that the polls are so tight.
“No, because, look, the polls had to be tied with Matt Dolan in the primary and we won by 18,” Moreno said. “Now, I don’t think it’s going to be an 18-point victory. But based on the energy, the enthusiasm, the early vote, the idea that people just want a change.”
“They’ve been crushed by the last four years. High prices, open borders, instability all over the world. They see the people in Washington, D.C., taking better care of illegal immigrants than American citizens. They see this country sending billions of dollars overseas when we have real needs here. So I think the temperature in the country, in Ohio, they want to change. Now, here’s Sherrod Brown trying to run as a change candidate, which of course, is nonsense, considering they’re the party in charge right now. They have been for four years.”

Moreno, who drew a loud applause from the crowd after saying he is looking forward to “firing” Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., assuming Republicans take control of the Senate, criticized Brown for lamenting the idea that “greedy corporations” are generating high inflation.
“Come on, look, you know the greediest organization on earth? Government,” Moreno said. “You talk about powerful, greedy corporations? That’s the government. You don’t love your people and your country when you allow government spending combined with an assault on American energy to drive our prices up so that you can’t afford McDonald’s.“

On immigration, Moreno also made the case that politicians in Washington, D.C., can’t claim to love the country while at the same time allowing millions of illegal immigrants to cross the southern border.
“If you love the people of this country, I mean, when I tell you genuinely love Americans, not just the country, but the people in the country, you don’t allow 12 million people to come into this country without being vetted,” Moreno said. “Uncontrolled illegal immigration, you just would never allow that if you love this country.”
Brown’s ads have blanketed the airwaves, hitting Moreno on abortion and his business record, while Moreno has labeled Brown a career politician who is essentially a rubber stamp for the Biden-Harris administration.
“Ohioans know Sherrod has worked with Republicans and stood up to his own party to get things done for Ohio – from taking on special interests to lower costs, to standing up to bad trade deals that shipped Ohio jobs overseas, to passing bipartisan laws to protect Ohioans from dangerous fentanyl,” a Brown campaign spokesperson told Fox News Digital.
“While Sherrod fights to make sure hard work pays off for all Ohioans, Bernie Moreno has made it clear that he only looks out for himself, refused to pay his own employees the overtime they earned and destroyed the evidence to get away with it, and would overturn the will of Ohioans by supporting a national abortion ban.”
The contentious ad campaign between the two candidates has become the most expensive Senate race in American history and is expected to exceed $500 million, eclipsing the $412 million price tag of the 2020 Georgia Senate race between Jon Ossoff and David Perdue, NBC News reported.
Tuesday’s Ohio Senate election is expected to play a key role in whether Republicans are able to take control of the Senate, with many believing Brown represents one of the strongest chances Republicans have to do so.
The Cook Political Report ranks the race as a “toss up.”

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – A national group of former MAGA supporters is reaching out to South Dakotans with a message. They want Republicans to know it’s okay to have second thoughts about party affiliation.
A billboard for leavingmaga.org is located in the area of 41st and Western.
Rich Logis says leaving MAGA can be a troubling journey, as it’s engrained deeply into one’s identity. He wants to reassure those who may be considering changing their mind.
“For those who don’t know about us but can learn about how to find a new community of those with others who, also like me, were in MAGA and then went through the odyssey of leaving it,” Logis said.
The website offers weekly online sessions, online resources and a newsletter.
“When you leave MAGA, you walk away from demonizing and vilifying and dehumanizing your those with whom you disagree,” Logis said. “We developed a community where people felt they could rediscover themselves and reclaim their humanity, their agency, and their empathy.”
Representative Tim Goodwin said he met President Trump five times and his policies are outstanding. He said Trump’s rhetoric sometimes gets him in trouble, but he did a lot for the country.
Asked if someone can be a Republican and not be MAGA, Goodwin said that’s fine.
“You’re not a Trump follower, but you’re a Republican. Absolutely, you can. I think that’s everybody’s choice,” Goodwin said.
Logis said he hopes to look back on this political era with a sense of pride knowing the group reduced the divisions and polarization that exist in the country.

Black bear walks through residential yards in Slinger
A black bear was spotted walking through residential backyards June 2 in Slinger. Resident Holly Nowak captured a video from her deck.
SHEBOYGAN COUNTY – If you see a bear lumbering through the woods or past your home, you might not just be imagining things.
The presence of a black bear recently was reported in the Kohler-Andrae State Park area, according to a report from WBHL radio station. The bear could be the same one reported earlier in the town of Saukville.
Sightings of the bear have been reported to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources since the animal appeared in the backyard of a home in Ozaukee County. Observers say the bear was heading north.
Observers rooting for the bear to make it back home
According to WBHL, someone living just south of Kohler-Andrae State Park said in a Facebook post they saw a bear Sunday evening (likely the same bear.)
Someone posted a photo of a bear in the Town of Wilson near Oostburg Sunday.
Observers seem to be rooting for the bear to make his or her way back to wherever home might be.
“Poor boy,” Erin Brown posted under the Town of Wilson photo. “He’s just making his way to his future partner. Please keep an eye out while driving.”
“He sure is making his way around,” Ruth Wood wrote. “Pretty incredible how much they’re on the move. Like someone said … we are overbuilding and taking their habitat away. Indeed we will have more wild life because of it. I feel sorry for this guy … and all the other wildlife being displaced.”
Added Cindy Schultz, “Oh stop freaking out. You know, it was bound to happen. Just be aware and cautious.”
Bear population on the rise
Authorities from the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Department said Monday they had not been notified of any bears moving through the area.
Kevin Brown, assistant bear/cougar specialist for the state DNR, confirmed the agency received two notifications through its Wildlife Observation Tool on June 2 of what appears to be the same bear in the Slinger area.
Wisconsin’s black bear population is around 23,000 to 24,000, according to the DNR. Although they most commonly live in the northwoods, black bears are increasingly being sighted in south and southcentral Wisconsin. The bear population was only around 9,000 back in 1989, according to the DNR.
If you sight a black bear, DNR officials suggest that you stay calm, shout, clap or bang pots together, and make yourself look large. Never run from a bear. Brown recommended learning more at BearWise.

The Detroit Tigers have been talked about heavily with the trade deadline just around the corner, but when they’re discussed, it revolves around back-to-back AL Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal. As of right now, the Tigers have told teams that Skubal is off-limits as Detroit looks to claw back into the standings.
That being said, the Tigers could still find trade packages this season, especially if things go south as they did in May. While Skubal is the biggest name in Detroit’s system to get moved at the trade deadline, one MLB.com analyst believes there could be another player who could be packing his bags.
Could This Tiger Get Traded This Summer?
Since Scott Harris has taken over as President of Baseball Operations for the Tigers, mixed emotions have come from how he handles trades at the deadline. Detroit was one of the best teams in the American League last season and was a buyer at the deadline, but Harris only brought in one player who remains on the MLB roster, resulting in backlash given their standing.
According to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand, one player that the Tigers could trade this deadline is former first overall pick, first baseman Spencer Torkelson. Torkelson has been an interesting case for Detroit, showcasing power every other season.
Feinsand listed Torkelson as a trade candidate who could get traded this deadline, who needs a change of scenery. While the thought is there, given how many years are left under team control, it doesn’t feel like a move that the front office would do… this season.
“The Tigers have 21-year-old Josue Briceño (MLB Pipeline’s No. 64 overall prospect) working his way toward the Majors, giving Detroit a potential replacement for 2027. If the disappointing Tigers decide to reset at the Trade Deadline, Torkelson could be a risk-reward acquisition for a club seeking a power bat,” Feinsand wrote.
Sure, Torkelson hasn’t been the Miguel Cabrera power replacement some had hoped for, but he has been a key asset to the offense over the last few seasons. When he’s sending the ball out of the ballpark, he’s at his best, and he might be starting to tap into that side of himself again.
If Detroit is telling teams that Skubal, a player on an expiring contract set to hit free agency at season’s end, is off limits, it’s hard to believe that they would find a trade involving Torkelson and banking on Briceño for the future.
Over the last two weeks of action, Torkelson is hitting .250 at the plate with two home runs and five RBIs, but he has 11 hits in total. A.J. Hinch has been wanting Torkelson to find productivity that isn’t just a home run or a walk, and he’s started to live up to the assignment.
Since the Tigers aren’t true sellers at the moment, despite their fourth-place standing at 27-39 ahead of a three-game series against the Minnesota Twins, fans shouldn’t lean too much into the thought of Torkelson getting traded until there’s a true direction for the franchise.
As of June, Detroit has a record of 5-1 this month, with most of its remaining games set to be played at Comerica Park.
