INJURY UPDATES: Detroit Tigers’ Carson Kelly (ribs) banged up, but ‘very available’; Andy Ibáñez close

Game notes: After giving up three home runs and not even lasting three innings on April 18 against the Texas Rangers, starting pitcher Kenta Maeda bounced back with his best performance in a Tigers uniform against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Maeda went five innings strong and gave up just three hits, no walks and most importantly, no home runs or runs at all for that matter. The Tigers ended up surrendering two runs in the sixth inning after Maeda left the game, so he wasn’t given a decision, however, the team was able to score three runs in the eighth inning en route to another one of their patented late comebacks this year, beating the Rays, 4-2.

Maeda, 36, will be excited to see the calendar turn to May, as the early months have not been his friend in recent years. Despite the strong last outing on April 23, Maeda posted an ERA of 5.96 through March and April, which matches up with his early season struggles last year, when he had a 9.00 ERA in April 2023. Maeda didn’t pitch in May last year because of an injury, but then had a 1.80 ERA in June and a 2.93 ERA in July once he was healthy.

Whether it’s the warmer temperatures, getting more comfortable as the season goes on or something else, the Tigers will certainly be hoping that Maeda finds a similar summer form this year, and based on the forecast for Wednesday, the weather will be working in the Japanese veteran’s favor.

After Wednesday’s game, the Tigers will have a needed day off after playing three games in two days and then will travel to the Bronx to play a three-game series with the New York Yankees starting Friday.

Bally Sports Detroit no longer on Xfinity as Comcast, Diamond Sports Group fail to reach deal

LANSING, Mich. (WILX) – Tens of thousands of Tigers fans in Michigan will have to find a new way to watch their favorite team. Bally Sports Detroit has been pulled off of Xfinity as Comcast and Diamond Sports Group failed to reach a new deal. Diamond Sports Group owns 18 networks under the Bally Sports name across the country and has broadcasting rights to over 30 professional teams across the MLB, NHL and NBA.

In a statement released late Tuesday, Bally Sports said in part, “Unfortunately, Comcast has rejected a proposed extension that would have kept our channels on the air and instead they pulled our signals while we continue to pursue a multi-year renewal agreement. As a result, Bally Sports broadcasts are unavailable to Comcast subscribers.”

With Bally Sports Detroit no longer on Xfinity, customers can no longer watch Detroit Tigers games. Depending on how long the two sides remain at odds in negotiations, fans may also lose access to Red Wings and Pistons games as well when the NHL and NBA seasons begin in the fall.

Other viewing options for Tigers fans

At the moment, Tigers fans who have Xfinity have a few options to watch games while Bally Sports remains off Xfinity. Bally Sports channels are still on cable or streaming services such as FuBo TV, DirecTV or DirecTV STREAM. Bally Sports also offers streaming on their website, even for those in market, with Bally Sports+ and MLB.TV offers streaming of Tigers games but only for those outside the state of Michigan.
