OBITUARY

Boardman- Scott J. MacDonald, 75, passed away on August 1, 2024 surrounded by loved ones at the Hospice House.Scott was born on December 5, 1948 in Cleveland, Ohio, a son of the late Alexander MacDonald and Marguerite (Keyes) MacDonald. He was a 1967 graduate of Eastlake North High School outside of Cleveland, and continued his education by earning both a Bachelor and Master’s degree from Kent State University. Scott was a proud veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Vietnam War. During his service he earned many awards, including a National Defense Service Medal and a Vietnam Service Medal with one silver star.Scott was a teacher for the Youngstown City School District until his retirement, and also served as a past president of the Youngstown Education Association. Scott was further able to positively impact the lives of the city’s youth through his various basketball and football coaching positions. He was an avid fan of all Cleveland professional sports teams, the Youngstown State Penguins and the Ohio State Buckeyes. Scott’s lifelong passion for golf led him to the founding of Reserve Run Golf Course, an endeavor he was most proud of. The bonds he forged on the links in Poland, Ohio gave him, and those who had the pleasure of knowing him, meaning, purpose and great joy.Scott leaves behind to cherish his memory, his beloved wife, the former Natalie Toy, whom he married September 19, 2008; his children, Ryan (Elizabeth) MacDonald of Alexandria, VA and Katie (Michael) Elford of Canfield; his grandchildren, Christian, Ashlyn, Cadence, Grant, Caroline, Jack, and Anna; his siblings, Lynne (Ray) Svoboda of FL, Gerry (Dennis) Robinson of FL, Anne (Jeff) Meese of CO, Jane MacDonald of OH and Michael (Leigh) MacDonald of OH; and his beloved canine companions, Teddy and Nora, whom he loved dearly. Scott also leaves behind many life-long friends and family that loved him. Cleveland, Ohio (WOIO) – After more than a dozen state lawmakers call upon Governor Mike DeWine to declare a State of Emergency, DeWine’s office says there doesn’t seem to be any need for outside help.

14 lawmakers signed and submitted a request to the Governor Thursday ― pleading for his help getting federal assistance for Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake and Lorain Counties. But, according to the Governor’s Press Secretary Daniel Tierney, none of the counties’ local emergency management agencies have requested assistance.

On Friday, DeWine issued a Proclamation of Preparedness Response, essentially stating the state is ready to help any Ohio community in need of critical services due to Tuesday’s storms. However, Tierney says ― so far ― the Governor’s office has only received one request from Cuyahoga County’s Health Department to help fill oxygen tanks. He said, other than that, no other agency has requested assistance.

As for power restoration, Tierney says First Energy has been recruiting workers from other states to handle that.

“We are in constant contact with all local emergency management agencies,” Tierney said. “They all say they’re okay. We are ready to help, we’re begging the local emergency management agencies to please let us know if they need anything ― but they tell us they’re okay.”

Tierney says the Governor is ready and willing to send in help as soon as it’s requested. Then, if the state can’t handle the issue ― it’ll contact FEMA, but only as a last resort.

“If viewers know of something that needs to be done, then they can ask our office,” Tierney said.
