Cleveland Browns players robbed at gunpoint downtown


CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – Cleveland police are investigating after several Cleveland Browns player were robbed at gunpoint downtown.

The Browns have identified the players as cornerback Greg Newsome II and defensive tackle Perrion Winfrey.

According to the Cleveland police report, Newsome told officers he left Rumor Bar & Lounge on W. 6th Street with another person around 2:15 a.m. Monday, June 5 and drove to the Filter Bar and Lounge in the 700 block of W. Superior Ave.

Newsome stated they parked their 2022 Ram truck in the parking lot next to Filter and went into the bar.

Newsome told police when they went back to the truck around 3:30 a.m., six masked men jumped out of an unknown car and robbed them at gunpoint.

Before driving off in the truck, the suspects also stole some jewelry.

Newsome stated nobody was injured.

Filter owner Kyler Smith released a statement regarding the theft Tuesday.(WOIO)

Cleveland police are also investigating the theft of a Cleveland Browns player’s vehicle from the parking garage at The May in the 200 block of Euclid Ave.

Officers responded to the garage around 8 a.m. Sunday, June 4, when the owners realized their vehicles were gone. One of the vehicles, a 2023 Dodge Durango Hellcat, belongs to Cleveland Browns player Demetric Felton.

According to the police report, security video showed suspects driving into the garage around 4:50 a.m., taking a parking ticket and driving around the garage.

Once the suspects saw the Hellcat, they broke into the vehicle and drove away in it. Before leaving the garage, the suspects also stole a Dodge Challenger. according to the police report.

Police said there are no arrests in either incident.

Man found fatally shot in Cleveland: Police


CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – A man was found shot to death in Cleveland early Monday morning, according to investigators.

Cleveland Division of Police Sgt. Wilfredo Diaz says officers found the man, approximately 27, in the 10900 block of Superior Avenue at approximately 2 a.m.

The victim has not been identified.

The circumstances behind the shooting have not been clarified.

2 Ohio men connected to Cleveland-area postal key theft sentenced to prison


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Two men convicted for their roles in the armed robberies of postal carriers in the Columbus area and also connected to a theft of a postal key in Northeast Ohio have been sentenced by a federal judge to multiple years in prison.

Cody “Drose” Beasley, 23, of Columbus, was sentenced Monday to more than six years in prison, while Kenan “Swerv” Lay, 21, also of Columbus, was sentenced on April 19 to 5½ years in prison, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Ohio.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says court documents show Lay provided the 9mm handgun used in the armed robbery of an elderly female postal worker on May 11, 2023, at a post office in Columbus. The postal worker was pistol-whipped during the robbery.

20-year-old murder suspect may be in Cleveland: US Marshals


CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – The U.S. Marshals are looking for a 20-year-old murder suspect who may be in Cleveland.

Marshals say the suspect, Dante Freeman, is also wanted by the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Office for felonious assault, aggravated theft and discharging a firearm.

Marshals say Freeman is 5 feet, 5 inches tall and weighs around 160 pounds.

Anyone with information on Freeman’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force at 1-866-4WANTED.
