1 dead, 3 in critical condition after shooting in Cleveland’s Forest Hills neighborhood


CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – An overnight shooting in Cleveland’s Forest Hills neighborhood has killed one and sent three to the hospital.

Officials say the shooting happened around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday night.

Officers say they responded to the area of Eddy Road and St. Clair Avenue for a vehicle crash.

As officers responded, a man drove up to them and said he and three others had been shot on East 123rd Street.

Officials say the shooting happened on East 123rd Street between Iowa Avenue and St. Clair Avenue.

“All they said is that she had been shot but I had no idea it was a girl. Then she said my chest hurts and everybody was on the phone calling 911″ said Mamie Blaney, a neighbor.

Mamie Blaney lives next door to where it all happened. She knows some of the victims. Blaney tells me what started as a night of fun quickly turned into gunshots.

“I knew something was going to happen last night because they started having firecrackers early, but I’m so sad I hope to God, they make it”

Cleveland EMS confirmed four people were were taken to University Hospital Medical Center in critical condition.

The 31-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the hospital after suffering a gunshot wound to the body.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner identified the woman as Shameka Lundy.

The 24-year-old woman and 29-year-old man both suffered gunshot wounds to the leg and a 27-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the hand.

Preliminary investigation indicates the victims were in the 400 block of East 123rd Street when people in a dark colored vehicle drove by and fired on the group.

As police scour the city searching for whoever pulled the trigger, people who live in this Forest Hills neighborhood fearful the violence on Cleveland streets is starting to spin out of control.

“Terrible loss. I don’t even know what to say it’s just getting worst in Cleveland” said another neighbor.

An investigation is still ongoing.

Animals, staff safe after fire at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo


CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – Firefighters battled a fire Wednesday afternoon at The RainForest at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo.

The RainForest is currently closed for construction, and a zoo spokesperson said all animals and staff are safe.

According to firefighters, the 2-alarm fire damaged the exterior and roof of the exhibit.

Firefighters say workers were using a torch to cut metal on the building exterior, and vegetation ignited.

The RainForest closed on Sept. 9, 2024. It’s expected to reopen in 2026, housing gorillas and orangutans.

Cleveland firefighters say the fire was ruled accidental. No injuries were reported.

The Oklahoma City Thunder and Cleveland Cavaliers are going toe-to-toe in a fun contest in which the NBA has spent the past 24 hours marketing.

Cleveland man found murdered inside vehicle


CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – A 25-year-old Cleveland man was found murdered inside a vehicle over the weekend.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner identified the victim as Raeveon Camp.

According to the medical examiner, Camp’s body was inside a vehicle parked in a driveway in the 700 block of E. 92nd St.

This is in the city’s Glenville neighborhood.

Camp was pronounced dead at the scene.
