Highlights: 4 central Wisconsin teams move on to hockey sectional finals
WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) – SPASH, Lakeland, Mosinee boys hockey and the Central Wisconsin Storm girls hockey team are all moving on to the sectional finals after wins Tuesday night.
SPASH knocked out the three-time defending sectional champions in Hudson with a 5-3 win, aided by goals from Grant Molski and Jackson Spees. The Panthers will play Chippewa Falls on Saturday at Hudson with a trip to state on the line.
The Central Wisconsin Storm got revenge for last season’s loss to Hayward in the sectional semifinal, knocking out the Hurricanes with a 7-3 win at home. Gabi Heuser led the team with three goals for a hat trick as the Storm advance to play Superior Friday night for a spot at state.
In Division 2, both Mosinee and Tomahawk will play each other in the sectional final after wins Tuesday night. Mosinee upset Lakeland 2-1 on the road to return to the sectional final, while Tomahawk beat Waupaca 3-0 to move to the doorstep of state.

Wisconsin beats conference rival for class of 2027 seven-foot center
Despite offering just a few days ago, the Wisconsin Badgers men’s basketball program has added a new face.
Minnesota center Jack Thelen officially announced his commitment to the Badgers on Saturday, June 13.
His announcement comes days after the team landed top-100 recruit Jalen Brown.
In less than a week, Greg Gard went from zero commitments to two. The seven-foot-one center joins Brown as Gard’s class of 2027 begins to take shape.
Thelen is currently an unranked recruit on 247Sports. He currently plays for Maple Grove High School in Osseo, MN. According to 247Sports, his only other offers came from Murray State, Montana, Minnesota, and Miami (OH).
Thelen’s commitment follows the trend of Wisconsin adding seven-footers in the post. Whether or not he’ll be able to shoot the three-ball like some of the bigs in the past remains to be seen, but for now, this is an incredibly intriguing addition.
