As Dominant Decade Ends, What Will Seattle Seahawks’ Legacy Be?
In every of the eight seasons for the reason that franchise secured its first and solely championship, success in Seattle was purely measured by the Seahawks’ skill to win one other. Stakes have been at an all-time excessive, filling the air with a suffocating sense of hysteria and stress that might by no means be alleviated in any of these eight years.Â
Profitable was every little thing and the Seahawks definitely did a whole lot of that. However their capability for profitable at a excessive stage proved restricted and, for some, was ultimately deemed unworthy of admiration. However, whereas every of these eight seasons led to heartache, Seattle achieved at a price many sports activities fanatics spend yearsâand even many yearsâpining for.Â
Though they fell on the mistaken aspect of one of the crucial beautiful finishes within the historical past of main American sports activities, the Seahawks’ accomplishment of constructing a second consecutive Tremendous Bowl shouldn’t be misplaced. They have been the primary crew for the reason that 1996-97 Packers to win back-to-back NFC titles and stay the final to take action to this present day.Â
Moreover, they made the playoffs a further 5 occasions after their Tremendous Bowl XLIX nightmare, profitable the NFC West twice. One would suppose this uncommon stage of consistency can be appreciated, however for a lot of, it solely serves as a painful reminder of Seattle’s incapacity to make a deep run within the postseason.Â
Having the items in place that the Seahawks didâone of many NFL’s most legendary defenses, a future Corridor of Fame expertise at quarterback, a entrance workplace that, within the early phases, seemingly hit on each determination it made and a head coach whose core philosophy was constructed on the inspiration of profitable “ceaselessly”âthe purpose morphed from sustaining a perennial playoff contender to constructing one of the crucial dominant applications the soccer world has ever seen.Â

“Dynasty” was a phrase that rapidly grew to become synonymous with the Seahawks after their 43-8 victory over the Broncos in Tremendous Bowl XLVIII. However these huge hopes and expectations would quickly dissipate as Seattle suffered the identical destiny many franchises earlier than it had met, leading to gut-wrenching disappointment for eight straight winters.Â
Hoisting the Lombardi Trophy after weeks and months of tireless work isâor, a minimum of, ought to beâeach crew’s purpose 12 months in and 12 months out. But when your identify is not Tom Brady or Invoice Belichick, doing so is extremely troublesome. Even the Rams and Chiefs, who’re extensively thought of to be the mannequin organizations of the previous half-decade, solely have one championship apiece to point out for it.Â
Regardless of such unfavorable odds, most gamers and coaches consider issues could be totally different for them. The Seahawks, their fanbase and those that coated the crew definitely felt that manner. However it’s that very same ardour, in addition to every little thing else that comes with success, that ultimately bore toxicity, fractured relationships and ended eras.Â
Because of this, Russell Wilson is now throwing passes for the Broncos. Bobby Wagner will now assist the Rams in their very own quest for a second consecutive championship. The storied “Legion of Increase” has lengthy been dismantled, and the off-field conduct of a few of its members has sadly begun to tarnish the group’s legacy.Â
It is an unfitting finish to one of many biggest runs in Seattle sports activities historical past and, frankly, one thing that may take a very long timeâif everâfor a lot of to look again on with full and utter fondness. As a result of the mere considered how nice that group was in its prime instantly floods the mind with numerous “what ifs” and reminders of the unprecedented success that was finally unfulfilled.Â
However will that all the time be the story of the Seahawks? Or will there come a time, someplace down the street, that this ache lastly subsides for all concerned?Â

Why Anthony Bradford won Seattle Seahawks' battle at RG
The battle at right guard is settled for the Seattle Seahawks â at least for now.
Seattle Seahawks rule out 2 key players for Sundayâs game vs Rams
After several weeks of splitting time with rookie Christian Haynes, the Seahawks are rolling with Anthony Bradford as their full-time right guard Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams.
Offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb told reporters Thursday that Bradford earned the job with recently improved play, including in last weekâs loss to the Buffalo Bills.
âI thought he did a better job finishing, his execution was better and he had a really good week of practice,â Grubb said. âI thought that was something that showed up in the game. He certainly wasnât perfect by any stretch. Heâs still working through stuff as a young player, but heâs finishing harder and heâs playing with better pad level and heâs starting to live up to some of the things we think he can do.â
Bradford had been getting the bulk of the playing time at the position, logging at least 60% of the teamâs offensive snaps in the six games (Weeks 2 and 4-8) he split time with Haynes. And according to Pro Football Focus, the second-year offensive lineman is coming off his two best performances of the season.
In Seattleâs Week 7 win over Atlanta, Bradford posted a season-best 67.2 overall grade and career-best 87.0 pass-blocking grade. He received the second-highest overall grade of any Seahawks O-linemen and didnât allow a pressure for the second time this season
In last weekâs loss to Buffalo, Bradford earned a 65.3 overall grade with 67.9 run-blocking mark, which were each his second-best grades of the season.
Additionally, the LSU productâs penalty problem has subsided after a brutal first three weeks. Bradford committed a team-high seven penalties in the first three games, but hasnât been flagged since.
Bradford holds an overall grade of 51.1 with a 57.3 in run blocking and 51.1 in pass blocking in 434 snaps this season. Heâs allowed a total of 20 pressures and four sacks.
Meanwhile, Haynesâ performance has graded out slightly less favorably. In 104 snaps, he sports an overall grade of 48.0 with a 50.1 in run blocking in 53.3 in pass blocking. The 2024 third-round pick has allowed four pressures and one sack and committed two penalties.
Brock weighs in on RG decision
During his Blue 88 segment on Thursday, former NFL quarterback Brock Huard shared his thoughts on why the Seahawks are rolling with Bradford as the full-time right guard.
Huard feels that the size and strength the 6-foot-4, 332-pound Bradford possess is distinct advantage over the 6-foot-2, 313-pound Haynes.
âItâs just the difference between (a baseball pitcher) 92 (mph) velo and 100 velo,â Huard said. â(Bradford is) athletic, heâs strong, heâs got a massive, massive frame and heâs pretty athletic with it. When heâs disciplined, when heâs conditioned, when heâs on point, when heâs ⊠intentional about all of that, the upside and the skill set is just much better than Christian.
âAnd theyâve given him opportunities, but he has just been physically â this being Haynes â too many times physically overwhelmed, and Bradfordâs not necessarily been physically overwhelmed.â
With that being said, Huard still sees plenty of work to be done on Bradfordâs end.
âI think he has been, at times, mentally overwhelmed to do the right thing all the time,â Huard said. âSo this is going to give Bradford every opportunity to maximize (his) talent. When we speak of talent, talent that is there, more talent than Christian Haynes has, but certainly a discipline thatâs got to grow an awful lot.â

Seattle Mariners Decline Option of Injury-Riddled Second Baseman
The Seattle Mariners have officially made the first “big” move of the offseason.
After a lot of debate over whether or not the team would opt to bring him back due to his injury concerns, the Seattle Mariners declined the $12 million option of second baseman and 2019 All-Star Jorge Polanco on Friday.
Polanco will receive a $750,000 buyout from the Mariners due to the team declining his option. The team’s 40-man roster now stands at 36 players.
Seattle traded for Polanco from the Minnesota Twins on Jan. 29, 2024, in efforts to figure out the team’s perpetual hole at second base. The Mariners have been trying to find an answer at the position since trading Robinson Cano to the New York Mets back in 2018.
Polanco had a down season by all metrics, even though it wasn’t entirely his fault.
The 11-year MLB veteran was dealing with a nagging knee injury for the second half of the season and had a stint on the 10-day injured list earlier in the year with a hamstring injury.
Polanco underwent surgery to repair a damaged patellar tendon after the season ended.
Polanco averaged just .213 this year with 16 home runs and 45 RBIs. His defense also took a noticeable step back.
Polanco had -10 outs above average, which ranks in just the second percentile in the league according to Baseball Savant.
Polanco is a switch-hitter with 20-home run power. He was reported to be ready to return by spring training after his surgery.
Seattle will now look to find an answer at second base while Polanco will try and find a new home.
The Mariners have several avenues they can explore to fill out the gap at second base. And time will tell if one of those avenues includes going after a free agent or pulling off a trade.
