Judge drops most serious charge against former Albuquerque firefighter
The trial for Anthony Martin and Aiden Heyman is underway. They’re accused of raping a woman in 2023.
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A judge dropped the most serious charge one former Albuquerque firefighter faced prior to Monday in an ongoing rape trial.
Anthony Martin had faced a charge of rape for an incident in 2023. The alleged victim took the stand last week and said Martin and two other former firefighters, Aden Heyman and Angel Portillo, took turns raping her in an apartment.
After the state rested its case, however, the defense pushed for the judge to rule on the evidence to dismiss charges. After hearing arguments from prosecutors and the defense today, Judge Britt Baca sided with the former firefighters’ attorneys.
“There’s simply no evidence that has been presented to the court in a light most favorable to the state to support a verdict that Mr. Martin helped, encouraged or caused the crime to be committed,” the judge said.
Martin now faces a lesser charge of attempted rape. Heyman still faces the rape charge. However, the judge dropped his aiding and abetting charge.
Prosecutors are trying Portillo separately.

EDGEWOOD, N.M. – Hundreds of residents and businesses in Edgewood and Moriarty went without power for a while during the of Wednesday night’s winter storm.
An outage map from Central New Mexico Electric Cooperative showed large clusters of outages as of 7 p.m. on Wednesday. By 7:30 p.m. power was restored.
On a social media post, CNMEC said: “We have received word that our power supplier, Tri-State, has lost a transmission line. Power will be out for the entire area until they can make repairs. We will post updates as we receive them.”
The outages came as the first winter storm of the season arrived in the East Mountains.

Since it started, United has signed identified key players and even signed some to their first-team squad, including Josh Goss and Phillip Beigl.

DALLAS – Authorities in New Mexico found the bodies of an elderly couple from Texas who had been missing since Thanksgiving.
What’s new:
The Carson County Sheriff’s Office said 82-year-old Charles “Gary” Lightfoot and 81-year-old Linda Lightfoot were found dead on Tuesday in a rural area of New Mexico near Tucumcari.
They were near their car in a pasture and are believed to have died from hypothermia, according to ABC 7 in Amarillo.

“We would like to thank the public and all agencies involved. We would also like to offer condolences to the family and friends of the Lightfoots as this is a tragic event,” the Carson County Sheriff’s Office said on social media.
The backstory:
A Silver Alert was issued last week for the Lightfoots.
The couple went missing in their silver 2024 Toyota Camry after visiting friends in Panhandle, Texas for the holiday. They left around 3 p.m. on Friday but never made it home to Lubbock.
Authorities were worried about their safety because neither had a cellphone, and Gary was oxygen dependent.
Their car was also spotted on camera in Groom, Texas and then in Santa Rosa, New Mexico the next day.
