A Colorado cardiologist has been accused of date rape by ten different women after he was initially accused of sexually assaulting a woman he’d met on the dating app Hinge, filming women he drugged and attempting to blackmail them with revenge porn.

Stephen Matthews, 35, was initially arrested in April after accusations that he sexually assaulted a woman.

On Monday, after attending a hearing in Denver on one complaint, he was arrested on the steps of the courthouse after further accusers had made similar allegations

The initial accuser said that after they matched on the popular dating app, they went out, had drinks at which point she says he drugged and raped her, according to an affidavit.

Matthews has denied the charges, saying that he and the woman had consensual sex.

After the accusation became public, another woman came forward to accuse Matthews of doing the same thing after also meeting him on Hinge.

The second woman said that she met Matthews at a bar before going to back to his home where she was offered a tequila and soda before going to the bathroom.

After she drank some of it she began to feel ‘off balance,’ also alleging that Matthews was filming her at one point.

She said she didn’t remember much after that, but got sick while taking an Uber home. The woman believes that Matthews sexually assaulted her.

When the doctor was initially accused, police asked possible further victims to come forward.

Another eight women eventually accused Matthews of sexual assault, with many of the same patterns emerging over the course of the past four years. One alleged assault occurred this past January.

Many of the women reported blacking out after drinking with Matthews and several accuse him of sexual assault.

One accuser said that Matthews ‘sent her photos of her naked in the hot tub’ after she refused to see him again. Another said that she awoke with bite marks on her arms.

Matthews was attending a hearing involving charges from the first accuser on Monday when he was arrested outside the courtroom on further charges.

The cardiologist was immediately placed in handcuffs and taken to a Denver jail.

He now faces 16 felony counts in relation to the ten accusers, including charges of sexual assault on a helpless victim, sexual assault without consent, sexual assault on an incapable victim and second-degree assault involving drugging women.

Police executed a search warrant of Matthews’ Denver home on Monday, with one seen carrying evidence to his car.

Douglas Cohen, an attorney for Matthews, has said his client is innocent, according to CBS News.

‘He’s alleged to do things,’ Cohen said Monday. ‘Many people are alleged to do things – I’ll leave it at that.’

In an interview, one of the initial victims said that Matthews has ‘very clearly been doing this for a long time, in a similar fashion and that’s terrifying.’
