Virginia attorney general candidate Jay Jones faced another stern rebuke from a fellow liberal after being caught discussing the hypothetical violent death of a Republican lawmaker.

A National Review report exposed text messages in which Jones fantasized about shooting a Republican colleague in the head and harm coming to his children in 2022. Since then, some liberal commentators have condemned the candidate and his rhetoric.

While some Democrats have stood by the embattled candidate, MSNBC host Joe Scarborough wrote a lengthy X thread calling him out.

“We have all said things that may have reflected poorly on our character—perhaps even unfairly. Virginia’s Democratic AG candidate’s life should not be judged solely on his past horrific texts and statements. But he should [withdraw] from the Attorney General’s race at once,” Scarborough implored.

As Virginia is one of the most prominent states where Republicans and Democrats vie for power, Scarborough argued that it would be a simple act of civic duty for Jones to step aside.

“For the good of Virginia, Jay Jones should stand aside. His violent texts calling for putting ‘bullets in the head’ of an opponent and wishing for the death of his political opponent’s children is disqualifying,” Scarborough wrote. “End of story.”

“Democrats who can’t say the same publicly do themselves, their party, and the country a disservice,” Scarborough concluded. “These times are too fraught to mumble non-answers or political justifications for any candidate such violent rhetoric.”

The texts, which had been sent to Del. Carrie Coyner, (R-Chester), speak of hypothetical violence against then-Virginia House Speaker Todd Gilbert (R), including a scenario where, as Jones purportedly described, “Three people, two bullets. Gilbert, Hitler and Pol Pot. Gilbert gets two bullets to the head.” He added further, “Spoiler: put Gilbert in the crew with the two worst people you know and he receives both bullets every time.”

In another message to Coyner, Jones speculated on whether Gilbert and his wife were “breeding little fascists.”

A spokesperson for Coyner’s campaign confirmed the authenticity of the texts first reported by National Review, saying they were “disturbing and disqualifying for anyone who wants to seek public office.”

The surfaced text messages from 2022 come at a time of heightened sensitivity to inflammatory and violent political rhetoric following the assassination of Charlie Kirk and two attempted assassinations of President Donald Trump.

A substitute teacher in Kentucky was arrested earlier this month after allegedly exposing herself during a video chat with an underage student as part of a plan to meet for sex, authorities said.

Krystal Sims, 30, of Cave City, was arrested on Oct. 2 after the Barren County Sheriff’s Office received a tip that she had communicated with the boy to arrange a sexual encounter, according to a citation obtained by WCLU-TV.

Deputies interviewed the student, who said he met Sims while she was working as a substitute teacher in his class. He told investigators she accepted a friend request he sent her on Snapchat.

According to the boy, he and Sims began discussing plans to meet in Cave City for sex on Aug. 22. He showed deputies a recording of a call from that day in which a female voice can be heard asking if he was coming to meet her.

The conversation then turned into a video call, during which the boy said Sims appeared in the shower with her breasts exposed, the citation states.

During an Oct. 2 interview, Sims told deputies several students had attempted to add her on social media, but she claimed she turned down their requests. She admitted to being the woman in the recorded call, but said she only agreed to meet the student so he could apologize for his behavior in class.

Sims said the meeting never happened and that nothing physical occurred.

The name of the school where Sims and the underage boy met was not immediately provided. The age of the boy was also unclear.

Sims was charged with unlawfully using electronic communication to solicit, procure, or promote a child for sexual activity or other prohibited acts, according to online jail records.

She was released Monday on a $25,000 cash bond and is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.

A convicted middle school teacher who was charged with repeatedly raping a teenage girl has been murdered in a North Carolina prison, according to officials.

Ernest Nichols, 60, was found unresponsive inside his cell at Greene Correctional Institution in Maury on Sunday morning at around 6.50 a.m., the North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections (NCDAC) said. The agency performed emergency life-saving procedures and called EMS, who pronounced the 60-year-old deceased at 7:22 a.m. 

A NCDAC spokesperson told Fox News Digital that Nichols was not murdered in his cell, noting the Green Correctional Institution is a minimum-security prison with dormitory-style housing.

Nichols was convicted of statutory rape in 2011 and was sentenced to 15 years behind bars. He was set to be released in September 2027.

On Tuesday, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (NCSBI) issued a murder warrant to 41-year-old Wilbert Baldwin. Balwin, the agency said, was previously convicted of second-degree murder in 2010 in Richmond County.

He was served with the murder warrant and given no bond. He was returned to the Department of Adult Correction to continue serving his current sentence. A NCSBI spokesperson confirmed to Fox News Digital that no additional details were available, and authorities are waiting for Nichols’ autopsy results to release a full report.

Nichols worked at Ranson Middle School in Charlotte as a gym teacher for 14 years. After the allegations were made, he was suspended without pay and banned from the grounds, WBTV reported. 

According to the local outlet, the disgraced teacher, who described himself as a “pig,” raped his 15-year-old victim repeatedly and watching his teen victim have consensual sex with others. Authorities said he had been posing as his teenage son on Facebook and had sent the teen girl sexually explicit messages.

The victim also alleged that Nichols made inappropriate requests to her, asking her to make up sexual stories and letting him know “whenever she entered the shower,” an arrest warrant revealed, according to WBTV.

According to the Mecklenburg District Attorney’s Office, Nichols was arrested in Oct. 2009 at his home. The agency said that the victim’s mother confronted Nichols after her daughter shared the abuse. Authorities said that Nichols drove down Highway 73 and threw the video recordings into the woods, but the evidence was retrieved by police.

On August 5, 2011, Nichols pled guilty to statutory rape. He was sentenced to 216-269 months (18-22 years) in the North Carolina Department of Correction.
