ESPN’s Matchup Predictor Has a Heavy Favorite for West Virginia-Colorado Game
West Virginia and Colorado will meet for just the third time in program history on Saturday, with tonight being the Buffs’ first-ever trip to Morgantown.
The ESPN BPI matchup predictor is leaning heavily in West Virginia’s favor for tonight’s game.
What the BPI says
According to the ESPN Basketball Power Index, the Mountaineers have an 82.1% chance to remain perfect inside Hope Coliseum, while Colorado has just a 17.9% chance to send WVU fans home in a bad mood.
Although the two teams boast similar records coming into tonight’s contest, the Mountaineers are just a different animal at home. Since the start of last season, West Virginia is 24-4 when playing at home, winning fourteen straight dating back to the tail end of last season with their victories over Cincinnati, TCU, and UCF.
80% may seem strong, but quite frankly, it’s deserved.
West Virginia’s recent games
It’s been a tale of two teams for West Virginia in its last two times out. They weathered the storm against Kansas a week ago, turning an eight-point deficit into an eight-point lead within the snap of a finger, thanks to a 22-2 run. The defense smothered the Jayhawks out of the paint, allowing WVU to go on to win by double digits.
Tuesday’s affair with Houston went about as poorly as one could imagine. It was one of the worst offensive first half performances in program history, and likely would have been had it not been for true freshman forward DJ Thomas knocking down shots from range. Now, the focus shifts back to taking care of your own floor.
Colorado’s recent games
After opening league play with victories over Arizona State and Utah, the Buffs have dropped two straight to Texas Tech and Cincinnati.
Despite trailing to Tech 43-27 at the break, they made it an interesting game, in large part due to their free-throw shooting, 14/16 from the line in the second half alone. A three from Sebastian Rancik made it a two-point game with 43 seconds left, and after a defensive stop, Barrington Hargress missed what would have been a game-winning three at the buzzer.
Against Cincinnati, the first half proved to be a problem again, burying themselves a 43-25 hole. They outscored the Bearcats 43-34 in the second half, but the free-throw line was their enemy this time. Cincinnati shot 24/35 on the day from the stripe.

West Virginia Continues to Build Pass Rush with Oregon Transfer
PHILIPPI, W.Va (WDTV) – The West Virginia Mountain Bike Association kicked off its cross country series Sunday with the Race to Lil Moe’s in Philippi.
The event had options for all skill levels. Bikers had the choice to race 6 miles, 14 miles, or 19 miles.
Each race had a mix of straight track biking, and twisting and climbing through the woods. Bikers of all ages could participate, and each age group had its own race and results.
“I really do think that trails build community, and if you can get outdoor activity where people can come out and hike and bike,” said George Finly, a mountain biker and trail volunteer. “This is as much as a hiking trail as it is a biking trail. It’s right along the river, which is beautiful. Eagles were flying back and forth yesterday, and today is great because we’ve got a lot of kids out here.”
The next WVMBA cross country mountain bike race will be April 19 in Buckhannon.

OHIO COUNTY, WV — Protesters lined Kruger Street and National Road in Wheeling on Saturday as part of “No Kings” demonstrations held across the country.
People were already packed along the streets before the protest began at 11:30 as participants cited rising gas prices and the controversial Iran war. Protesters chanted and voiced their opinions during the event.
Teddie Grogan said the group gathered to push back against what they see as undemocratic leadership and unnecessary conflict. “We’re here today to protest the fact that we want our country we want it run as a democracy we don’t want wars that are somebodys choice and not a necessity,” Grogan said.
Former U.S. military member Cody Cumpston also criticized the current administration and said he is frustrated by the cost of living and the direction of the country. “I’m here today because of the current administration we’re in a new war we didn’t need to be in prices are still skyrocketing I’m just tired of it I feel like they’ve forgotten all about us and they keep forgetting about us,” Cumpston said.
Another protester, April Pascoli, said she believes many people are not aware of what the administration is doing internationally and at home. “If I don’t go to work one day and I ask people do you know what’s happening in this country? And somebody says, we’re at war right now? Really? People my age don’t even know that we have troops on the ground, that they are bombing. Bombing our bases in the middle east. Do you know that, do you realize that?” Pascoli said.
