Oklahoma vs. Texas live updates: Follow latest from today’s Week 7 college football game

With a five-star freshman receiver providing a lift to its super sophomore quarterback, Florida beat No. 9 Texas 29-21 on Saturday to change the trajectory of its season and hand the preseason No. 1 team its second loss.
In a game matching two highly touted quarterbacks trying to put forgettable Septembers behind them, Florida’s DJ Lagway looked like the prospect that was promised.
The sophomore threw for 298 yards and two touchdowns to Dallas Wilson, including a spectacular 55-yarder to freshman Dallas Wilson, who ran through two Longhorns on the way to the end zone to make it 29-14 late in the third quarter. Wilson had six catches for 111 yards.
For Texas QB Arch Manning, it was more misery. The third-year quarterback passed for 263 yards and two touchdowns, ran for 37 yards, but was also picked off twice in the second half.
The Longhorns cut the lead to eight, 29-21, with a 1-yard touchdown run by Quintrevion Wisner with 3:20 left in the fourth quarter. Florida had a chance to burn the clock down after the score, but some questionable clock management gave Texas and Manning one more chance with 54 seconds left at their own 31.
The Longhorns managed to get past midfield, but Manning was dragged down with the clock winding and he couldn’t get to the line and spike it quickly enough to get Texas a chance for a Hail Mary.

Between Austin And Houston Is Texas’ Alluring City With River Floats And Tasty European-Style Food – Islands

Having spent a year of my life living in the Bohemian paradise of Prague, I often find myself banging the drum for the magnificent country of Czechia. For U.S. friends who find themselves unable to cross the Atlantic to this Central European destination, La Grange, Texas, serves as a fantastic little teaser of what Czech culture is like. With sprinkles of Czech history, events, and traditional cuisine, visitors can tuck into both beef brisket and beef goulash on a trip to La Grange. The town sits by the Colorado River, with a range of delights on offer such as its courthouse square, Texas Quilt Museum, and, most notably, a series of river floats and paddling trails.
Just like Czechia is famed for its incredible selection of beer, fans of a tipple can try delicious beverages in a variety of wonderful settings in La Grange. There are award-winning meads at Texas’ oldest operating meadery, Blissful Folly Farm, and beer aficionados can even check out the ruins of the 19th-century Kreische Brewery, where the annual Bluff Schuetzenfest Beer and Heritage Festival is hosted. Getting to La Grange is easy for those flying into Austin (one of the biggest hotspots for solo female travel), with Austin–Bergstrom International Airport located roughly an hour away by car. For those traveling in from Houston after checking out its sublime museum scene, La Grange is located around 100 miles west.
European gastronomy excites in this Texan town
A surprising number of European culinary treats can be found across La Grange, despite its small population size of less than 5,000 inhabitants. Stuffed Czech pastries, known as kolaches, are a must-try. At Weikel’s Bakery, kolaches are made from scratch with up to 19 different fillings including cottage cheese, poppy seeds, and prunes. This La Grange institution is also beloved for its klobasnikies (Czech pigs in blankets). The kitchen at the aforementioned Blissful Folly Farm also offers up a local Czech-style sausage basket to share, which can pair nicely with a dark Czech lager, such as the tap room’s Tmavé Pivo. This is perhaps the perfect food and drink combo to line the stomach at one of the meadery’s many events, from its trivia nights to its live music performances.
For a taste of another corner of Europe, visitors can go for some Italian-inspired classics with hearty plates at Reba’s — run by a New Yorker trained under European chefs – or enjoy some slices at Ere’s Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria. Ere’s has a BYOB option, encouraging patrons to bring a bottle of their favorite wine. Pick one up from La Grange’s own family-owned vineyard and winery, Rosemary’s.
Craving those summer-in-France vibes instead? Guests can also linger over a cheese board and a glass or two at Bodega Wine Market. Just make sure to arrive early, as they close at 7 p.m.
Cultural events, Colorado River trails, and comfortable stays
La Grange’s Czech cultural heartbeat is not just on display at Weikel’s. The Texas Czech Heritage & Cultural Center houses the Nas Novy Domov museum, with artifacts from history’s Czech immigration to Texas. The museum is open from Tuesday to Saturday, closing a bit earlier on weekends. The center also hosts key events such as Slavnost/May Fest, Heritage Fest & Muziky, and performances by visiting Czech bands, while the whole town turns out each December for Schmeckenfest’s hot mulled cider tastings and Christmas fun on La Grange’s square.
Water lovers are spoiled in La Grange. In-town access points to the Colorado River include White Rock Park and Buffalo Trail Park. For day floats, nearby options abound, with Bastrop’s wide, slow-moving 6-mile El Camino Real Trail or the even longer 14.3-mile Wilbarger trail. Columbus’s 6.5-mile trail comes with a reputation for amazing scenery featuring turtles and wildflowers. Numerous companies provide rental paddling equipment, and those with large groups can make reservations in advance with Paddle With Style.
Outdoors enthusiasts can also enjoy a spot of golf at Frisch Auf! Valley Country Club and then settle in for the night at comfortable hotels such as the Hampton by Hilton, the Best Western, or The Oak Motel, which is located just a five-minute stroll to the famous Fayette County Courthouse. After finishing up a trip to La Grange, visitors with a hankering for proper Texan BBQ can drive for around one hour to get to The Lone Star State’s overlooked foodie capital of Lockhart.

No 6. Oklahoma vs. Texas: Sooners Wire Staff Predictions

The Red River Showdown takes college football’s center stage in just over 24 hours. The Sooners are 5-0 and 1-0 in the SEC. Texas comes into the game 3-2 and 0-1. The Longhorns are coming off a disappointing loss to the Florida Gators last Saturday. The Sooners weren’t thrilled with their performance in a 44-0 win over Kent State, but they’ve gained some momentum heading into the game after starting quarterback John Mateer was deemed probable to play on Thursday night’s availability report.
It’s a game where rationality and reason often are thrown out the window, and this figures to be a very tight football game featuring two very good defenses. Unlike last year, though, the Sooners come into this game with a much healthier offense, one playing good complementary football to support its defense.
If the Sooners have College Football Playoff aspirations, they need to come away with another win. Here’s how our staff at Sooners Wire thinks the game will go in this week’s game predictions.
Oklahoma’s Defense the Difference
A month ago, Oklahoma-Texas figured to have College Football Playoff implications. It still does, technically, considering the Longhorns are practically eliminated with a loss. Their offense simply hasn’t lived up to preseason predictions. Thing is, Oklahoma isn’t the team to go looking for a turnaround against. A low-scoring affair could be on the agenda, especially if the Sooners don’t have John Mateer in the fold. If they do, yikes. So, let’s split the difference, score-wise.

Mateer not Back? Defensive Battle
This game is challenging to predict because there are so many important questions on both sides. If John Mateer starts and goes the distance for the Sooners, I feel good about Oklahoma’s chances to win (and put up more than 14 points). However, it feels like OU is trying to get Texas to believe that Mateer will play, and I can see them using that as a smokescreen, with Michael Hawkins Jr. filling in again. It feels a little soon for Mateer to be back. If it’s Hawkins under center, I feel much less confident about OU’s chances against a very good Longhorns defense. However, Oklahoma’s defense is also for real, and the ‘Horns are sputtering offensively. This one is setting up to be a low-scoring rock fight, so Oklahoma’s defense has to be on point all day. Without Mateer, it’ll probably be up to the defense to score at least once, but give me the Sooners in a close one. Arch Manning hasn’t shown much this year, but you’d hate for this to be his breakout game as a starter. I don’t think Brent Venables and the defense let that happen.

Coming together for the Sooners
The Oklahoma Sooners defense will face its biggest test of the season against the Texas Longhorns and Arch Manning. One could make the argument that Auburn’s offensive line and wide receiver play is better than Texas but the quarterback play favors the Longhorns. The Sooners will have to prevent big plays down the field and not allow Arch to escape the pocket and make plays with his legs on a regular basis. If the Sooners contain the former five-star quarterback, they’ll be in great shape.
With John Mateer’s availability for Saturday moving to probable on Thursday night, the Sooners offense gets a boost with Mateer’s experience and playmaking ability. As long as his grip holds up under duress, he’ll be the difference maker we’ve seen all season.
Oklahoma’s special teams has been a weapon this season and will continue to be in this one.

John Mateer trending toward playing against the Texas Longhorns on Saturday

The news has come in on the latest SEC availability report that Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer is trending to play against the Texas Longhorns on Saturday.
That’s huge news for the Sooners, who will have their Heisman-contending quarterback and leader back for the Red River Showdown. Before sitting out the Sooners’ 44-0 win over Kent State, Mateer was averaging 351.25 combined passing and rushing yards and 2.75 touchdowns per game in Oklahoma’s 4-0 start.
His availability gives the Sooners’ offense a boost come Saturday. Although it will be his first experience in the Red River Showdown, Saturday will mark the 21st start of his collegiate career if he remains on track to play.
There weren’t any other changes on the availability report beyond Mateer. Wide receiver Keontez Lewis is the most notable name to watch. Lewis suffered a scary moment in the Sooners’ win over Kent State after running into the brick wall beyond the end zone.
If Lewis is unable to play this Saturday, look for Ivan Carreon and Javonnie Gibson to receive the snaps at outside wide receiver opposite Deion Burks and with Isaiah Sategna in the slot.
