Shooting in front of Lake County home wounds 1; Tennessee man in custody

WICKLIFFE, Ohio — An argument between two men in the driveway of a home Sunday afternoon led to a shooting that sent one of the men to the hospital in critical condition, police say.

A suspect, a 22-year-old man from Tennessee, is in custody but his name has not been released because he has not been formally charged, police say. He is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday morning.

Meanwhile, the 52-year-old male victim was in critical but stable condition at University Hospital in Cleveland. He reportedly was shot multiple times.

Officers went to a residence on the 1900 block of East 290th Street at about 4:40 p.m. Sunday after several calls to 911 reported that shots had been fired. The victim, whose name has not been released, was found on the sidewalk.

Police and Wickliffe EMS workers gave the victim medical aid before he was first taken to UH Lake West Medical Center, then flown by helicopter to University Hospital.

The accused gunman and the victim did not know each other and were at the home “for two completely different reasons,” according to police. They reportedly began arguing as they passed each other in the driveway. The argument escalated and shots were fired, police say.

The suspect left in a vehicle before officers arrived, but police were able to contact him by phone. The suspect was later taken into custody without incident at a home in Willowick. He is being held in jail without bond.
