South Carolina OC Dowell Loggains Has High Praise for Old Dominion Linebacker

South Carolina coordinators met with the media on Wednesday as they prepare for the 2024 season. Offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains took the time to speak on the team’s game one opponent as well as a new rule change in college football.

Along with adding in-helmet communications in the offseason, one of the biggest changes in college football this season will be the addition of the two minute warning in the second and fourth quarters. While some teams will be new to this idea, coach Loggains has a leg up on the competition due to his NFL experience.

“Situations you handle pre-two minute and post-two minute that’ll be a little different, obviously it’ll give you another built in time out,” Coach Loggains said about the new rule. “There are strategies before and after two minute that come into play here, that I don’t want to talk about in too much detail.”

Outside of worrying about two minute strategies, the Gamecocks have to keep an eye on the Old Dominion’s defense this week. Last season the Monarchs ran a lot of three safety looks, but their best player was arguably senior linebacker (LB) Jason Henderson.

Henderson’s ability to make plays and force turnovers is what made him a great player for Old Dominion last season. Fortunately for South Carolina, they have what it takes to prepare for someone with Henderson’s abilities.

“Good thing for us through spring ball and training camp we get to go against Debo [Williams] every day. There are some similarities with how hard these guys play, how relentless they are, don’t stop, Freddy Krueger type guys that won’t die. 42 [Old Dominion LB Jason Henderson] does a great job of not just making tackles, he’s going after the ball as well. He’s a heck of a football player,” Coach Loggains praises Old Dominion senior LB Jason Henderson.

The first game will be a test for coaches all across college football with the installation of the two minute period, in helmet communications, and more. It’s a task Gamecocks players and coaches seem be ready for this weekend.

Although no one won the half a billion dollar jackpot, two South Carolina players did become millionaires, willing $1 and $2 million. The next drawing of the Mega Millions will be on Friday.

No one could claim the $500 million jackpot in Mega Millions Tuesday night’s drawing but two players from South Carolina walked away with seven-figure jackpots by matching five numbers in the draw.

Two new millionaires were crowned in South Carolina as both of them matched the five white balls but missed the golden Mega Ball. One of the players won $2 million as they paid an extra $1 for the Megaplier while the other player netted $1 million.

Since no grand prize winners were had on Tuesday, the Mega Millions jackpot has now increased to an estimated $627 million for the drawing on Friday, making it the ninth-largest in the game’s history.

Friday will be the ninth time the Mega Millions drawing jackpot has surpassed $600 million since the game began in 2002. The cash option for Friday’s drawing will be an estimated $309.1 million.

The drawing on Tuesday had a total of 1,202,189 winning tickets sold across the county, with 30 of them matching four white balls in addition to the Mega Ball, winning players $10,000 each. Ten of those netted players $20,000 as they purchased the Megaplier.

What were the winning numbers on Tuesday’s Mega Millions?

The winning numbers drawn on Tuesday night were 16, 18, 21, 54, 65 with a Mega Ball of 05 and a Megaplier of 2x.

How do I play the Mega Millions?

In order to buy a ticket, you’ll have to visit your local convenience store, gas station or grocery store − and in a handful of states, you can purchase tickets online.

To play, you will need to pick six numbers. Five numbers will be white balls ranging from 1 to 70. The gold Mega Ball is one number between 1 and 25.

If you believe the odds are against you, ask for a ”Quick Pick” or an ”Easy Pick,” the computer will randomly generate the numbers for you.

Players can add the ”Megaplier” for $1, which can increase non-grand prize winnings by two, three, four or five times. The Megaplier is drawn before the Mega Millions numbers on Tuesday and Friday.

Two dead in South Carolina from Listeria linked to recalled deli meat

LOWCOUNTRY, S.C. (WCIV) — Two have died in the Lowcountry potentially due to a national Listeria outbreak linked to recalled Boar’s Head deli meat, according to the South Carolina Department of Public Health.

“Unfortunately, an outbreak of Listeria has reached our state, and is potentially the cause of two deaths here,” said Dr. Linda Bell, State Epidemiologist in a prepared statement. “We want to ensure South Carolinians are aware of this outbreak and that everyone takes necessary steps to avoid consuming products that could be the source of infection.”

Data from the DPH shows that some deli sliced meats, including Boar’s Head brand liverwurst, are contaminated with Listeria and are making people sick, according to CDC. Boar’s Ready to eat meat and other deli products from the same processing plant have also been recalled.

Since July, the CDC has been investigating the Listeria outbreak, which has led to 43 hospitalizations and three deaths across 13 states as of Aug. 8.

In order to avoid contracting Listeria, the DPH and CDC recommend throwing away recalled meats and understand that Listeria can grow on foods kept in the refrigerator.

Concerned individuals who might have bought recalled meats are advised to cleantheir refrigerators.

Delis that received recalled meats should thoroughly clean and sanitize all food and non-food surfaces and throw away any open meats and cheeses. The United States Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service also advises businesses to use best practicesfor controllingListeriacontamination in deli areas.
