MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) -On Sunday, the Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi held its annual Meridian Walk for Diabetes at Bonita Lake Parks.

Many people came out to walk in support of children and families who have been diagnosed with type and type two diabetes.                

Registration began at 1 pm, followed by Miss Mississippi’s Becky Williams leading the warm-ups and stretches to prepare people for their walk, which began at 2.                

There were also activities for the children, such as face painting, a sneaker contest, food, snacks, and cold beverages for everyone in attendance, and everyone who finished the walk earned a medal of accomplishment.                

Jowilla Secoy, Regional Director of the Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi, was very excited about the turnout of their event.

“Today was a little small, but we’re always thankful to everyone who comes out here. I think we’ve got about 75 to 100 people out here today, and we’ve done this for years, and it just always depends. Last year, it was freezing cold, and we had a lot of people out here, you know, on Sundays, it can be hard to have people out because they have other obligations; however, those that don’t come out, they’re still supporting us, whether it’s through donor drive or sending in checks. But it’s the ones that we have out here today; they’re here for a reason, and there’s meaning behind them. Everything that they do for us,” says Jowilla Secoy, Regional Director.

Miss Mississippi Becky Williams was also in attendance, talking more about her Make a Move initiative and how this walk was important.

“There are so many comorbidities related to sedentary and unhealthy lifestyle, and so when we start moving our bodies through these simple ways, whether it is just walking, whether it is going to get your own groceries, we really can change our lives. And so understanding that this correlation between walking and diabetes and also understanding that Mississippi is one of the most unhealthy states in the nation and has a very high diabetes rate. You know, it just makes sense to to combine these things to bring awareness to health,” says 2024 Miss Mississippi’s Becky Williams

All the money raised at the walk will stay in Mississippi to help provide support for the families and get them access to equipment, tools, and resources they need to survive and live an everyday life with diabetes.

The No. 14 Texas A&M Aggies got a well-deserved break yesterday as they had their first of two bye weeks on the season.

After their 41-10 annihilation of the Missouri Tigers last week and wins against the Florida Gators and Arkansas Razorbacks put the Aggies atop the SEC standings, many have begun to put Texas A&M in the SEC title picture, given the role that A&M has been on ever since they suffered their lone loss to Notre Dame in the season opener.

And according to DraftKings Sportsbooks, that roll isn’t going to stop anytime soon.

DraftKings released the odds for the Aggies’ next contest against the Mississippi State Bulldogs, and the betting site gave Texas A&M a comfortable advantage, odds-wise, setting the Ags as 15-point favorites over their SEC opponents.

While the Aggies were resting up during their bye week, Mississippi State was doing battle with another SEC Bulldog team in Georgia. Though Mississippi State failed to upset the former national champions, they only lost by 10 points in the 41-31 affair, which is probably a lot more than some might have expected.

And speaking of annihilations, that was the story last year at Kyle Field when State came to College Station, as the Aggies manhandled the Bulldogs 51-10 in what turned out to be Jimbo Fisher’s final game as the Aggie head coach.

Since Texas A&M joined the SEC in 2012, they have a 6-5 record against the Bulldogs, and last time they visited Starkville, it didn’t end well for the Maroon and White, falling 42-24. Mississippi State may be searching for that first SEC win on the year, but the Aggies should not write this off as an easy victory by any means.

And if there’s anything we learned last week, it’s that anything can happen in the SEC.

I’m sure if you are reading this post you have seen the viral Kirby Smart moment from Georgia’s 41-31 win over Mississippi State.

But in case you haven’t (or you want to watch it again) here you go.

In the above video you can clearly see Smart shove Mississippi State QB Michael Van Buren Jr. The first thing I thought when I saw this happen was that the college football world is going explode when this clip inevitably goes viral.

And that is exactly what happened.

I could easily share at least 1,000 more posts just like these, but I think you get the picture.

Now I will admit that the optics of this clip are not great. Georgia is going through a lot of off the field issues with wide receiver Colbie Young’s arrest and subsequent suspension being the latest example, so that development surely is putting a magnifying glass on anything UGA does right now. Also it’s a recipe for disaster anytime a coach puts their hands on an opposing player.

But let’s be honest, this incident really isn’t an incident at all. In fact, this is something that I believe everyone is overreacting to.

In my opinion it is extremely obvious that Smart never even saw the Mississippi Stare QB. Smart was clearly arguing with the official and in the process accidentally bumped the MSU QB. He maybe shouldn’t have extended his arms like he did, because that is what’s making Smart look guilty. But still, it’s clear as day that none of it was intentional.

Smart even said after the game that he doesn’t remember touching the Mississippi State QB.

We are however living in the social media world, a world that loves to hate Smart and Georgia football, so I’m not surprised to see people react like this. But setting all biases aside it becomes clear that Smart did nothing wrong and everyone is just looking for something to be upset about.
