Caughman not seeking re-election to Mississippi State Senate


The Republican has represented elements of Copiah, Rankin and Simpson counties in District 35 for 2 phrases.

State Senator Chris Caughman has introduced that he won’t be looking for re-election to a 3rd time period in subsequent 12 months’s statewide elections.

Caughman, a Republican, has represented Mississippi Senate District 35 since 2016. He at present chairs the Senate Enterprise and Monetary Establishments Committee and is the vice chairman on the Senate Environmental Safety, Conservation and Water Sources Committee.

In a Fb publish, Caughman mentioned it has been an honor to symbolize the folks of District 35.

“It’s with coronary heart of gratitude that I’m asserting that I can’t be working for a 3rd time period within the Mississippi Senate. I’m grateful for all of the help and friendships that I’ve developed over these final seven years,” the state senator wrote.  “It has really been a fantastic expertise to symbolize the nice folks of District 35. For me personally, two phrases are sufficient and it’s time for another person to step up on this place.”

Caughman went on to say that he has “a fantastic job at Peoples Financial institution” that he’s very grateful for and that he must get again to being one of the best banker he may be for his prospects and the workers of the financial institution.

“I’m very grateful for the help of my financial institution over these final seven years as they’ve given me nice flexibility to do the work of the state within the legislature,” Caughman mentioned.

The State Senator expressed his appreciation for the help and assist of the Senate management over the past two phrases, saying that he’ll at all times cherish the friendships he has have made together with his Senate colleagues.

“I can let you know there are some actually good folks within the legislature and I’m grateful for them,” he mentioned.

As for his service, Caughman mentioned he hopes that in his time within the Legislature that he has lived as much as the expectations of his constituents and represented them “within the frequent sense, conservative method” that he mentioned he would do.

“I’ve completed my greatest to observe via on points that I informed you I’d help over this time. My objective when a vote was taken was to symbolize the folks of my district and I imagine my voting file will present simply that,” Caughman wrote.

Senator Caughman thanked his household for his or her help, as nicely.

Two Murder Suspects Escape Mississippi Jail


Authorities in Mississippi are asking the public to keep an eye out for two murder suspects who escaped from custody on Friday morning, reports WTVA. The men are identified as Tyrekennel Collins, 24, and Dezarrious Johnson, 18, in a news release from the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office. They escaped from the county detention center during “repair issues,” reports CNN, but authorities haven’t provided more details about what happened.

“These suspects are considered to be dangerous,” per the release. “Authorities urge all citizens to take necessary precautions.” Johnson reportedly suffered an injury to his right leg during the escape and would likely be limping, says the sheriff’s office. The men were being held as suspects in separate murders. (More prison escape stories.)

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) – A body was found in the Mississippi River this morning, the St. Louis Fire Department reports.

According to the fire department, the initial response for this incident was at the foot of Carr and the Mississippi River.

First Alert 4 is working to learn where exactly the body was found, the identity of the victim, and if any foul play was suspected.
