REPORT: Two Sun Belt Programs Interested in Miami QB
One of the top quarterbacks in the transfer portal is University of Miami redshirt sophomore Jacurri Brown. Per Steve Wiltfong of On3 Sports, amongst the five teams that have shown interest in the transfer quarterback, Georgia State and Appalachian State have looked into the services of the young quarterback.
TRANSFER PORTAL: Former ACC Linebacker On The Move Again
Brown only saw action in one game for the Miami Hurricanes in 2023, which was their bowl game loss against Rutgers where he threw for 181 yards and one touchdown. He completed 20 of his 31 passes in that game. A bigger sample size to look at would be in 2022, where he played in eight games, throwing for 230 yards and three touchdowns, but three interceptions.
The interest coming from Appalachian State is certainly an interesting one given the play last season from Cure Bowl MVP Joey Aguilar and then the deep quarterback room that they have.
One big factor in this surprising pursuit from App State is former Miami quarterbacks coach Frank Ponce who is currently with the Mountaineers as their offensive coordinator. Brown and Ponce crossed paths in Miami for that lone year he was there, but that one year is important to consider with App State’s interest in Jacurri Brown.
Georgia State’s interest certainly makes a lot more sense given the thin quarterback room that they have. At the moment, redshirt senior and Georgia Tech transfer Zach Gibson is in line to be the starting quarterback, but having someone like Jacurri Brown with multiple years of eligibility remaining on the team is certainly a good building block for future recruitments and transfer portal acquisitions.
The spring transfer portal window closes on April 30.

Chris Paddack and Miami Marlins agree to $4 million, 1-year contract, AP source says
Right-hander Chris Paddack and the Miami Marlins agreed to a $4 million, one-year contract, a person familiar with the negotiations told The Associated Press on Monday.
Paddack can earn an additional $500,000 in performance bonuses, the person said, speaking to the AP on condition of anonymity because the agreement was subject to a successful physical.
Miami appears likely to slot him into its rotation after trading Edward Cabrera to the Chicago Cubs and Ryan Weathers to the New York Yankees.
Paddack, who turned 30 last month, was 5-12 with a 5.35 ERA in 28 starts and five relief appearances last year for Minnesota and Detroit, which acquired him on July 28. Paddack was 3-9 with a 4.95 ERA in 21 starts for the Twins and 2-3 with a 6.32 ERA for the Tigers.
He had a $7.5 million salary in the final season of a $12,525,000, three-year deal and earned $1 million in performance bonuses.
Paddack has a 32-36 record and 4.64 ERA in 110 starts and eight relief appearances over seven seasons with San Diego (2019-21), Minnesota (2022-25) and Detroit.

Miami‑Dade deputy fatally shoots woman during neighborhood altercation, officials say
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating after a deputy fatally shot a woman in northwest Miami‑Dade on Saturday afternoon, authorities said.
This happened just north of Miami-Opa Locka airport at NW 55th Avenue and 189th Street.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said in a press release that they responded to a call regarding a woman who was harming herself with a knife.
Deputies attempted to have a conversation with the woman, they said. During the altercation, a deputy shot their weapon and hit the woman.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue then arrived at the scene and the woman was transported to a local hospital, where she succumbed from her injuries.
Before the press conference, CBS News Miami spoke to family members on scene.
The young woman, who says her mother was the victim of the shooting, said that she was on the phone with her younger sister, 12, when she heard gunshots.
“I hear gunshots in a house with no guns. I don’t have a gun, my dad is out of the country, and it’s just my little sister and my mom in the room, so why don’t I know where my mom is,” she said, “Why are they not telling me what hospital my mom is in? Why are they interrogating my little sister without an adult present?
No deputies were reported to be injured. The investigation is ongoing and as is customary for deputy-involved shootings, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is taking over the case.
