Miami Marlins to Call Up Former A’s Pitcher


The Miami Marlins are set to call up right-hander Adam Oller to start on Monday, according to Ari Alexander of KPRC2. Oller began the year in the Cleveland Guardians’ organization after his former catcher in Oakland Stephen Vogt was named the team’s manager. The Guardians signed him to a minor-league deal, but he never made it to Cleveland.

The Guardians released the 29-year-old on July 3, and the Miami Marlins signed him a week later and assigned him to Triple-A Jacksonville where he has gone 3-0 in six games (three starts), holding a 2.88 ERA across 25 innings. His strikeout percentage has stayed roughly the same as it was in Cleveland’s system (24.5%), but his walk rate has been cut in half, going from 14.4% to 7.1%.

Up until he takes the mound for the Marlins, all of his big-league experience will have come with the Oakland A’s, totaling 94 frames with a 7.09 ERA in 28 appearances (15 starts) across the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

In an odd twist, one of Oller’s most impressive outings came against the Marlins at the Oakland Coliseum in 2022. He went six innings, giving up three runs on five hits and five walks, striking out two. While the final line isn’t great, the A’s bullpen was taxed heading into that contest, and for the righty to be able to get through six innings without much command, saving the bullpen and keeping his team in the game, that was a gutsy performance.

Oller will be joining former A’s Cristian Pache and Jonah Bride on the active roster, with Jesús Luzardo currently on the IL. The Marlins are currently 45-78, fifth in the NL East.

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — The Federal Aviation Administration has lifted a ground stop for all incoming flights at Miami International Airport Wednesday.

The order was initially issued at about 8:30 a.m. due to poor visibility in the area caused by “low ceilings.”

According to The Weather Channel, a low ceiling “refers to low clouds or fog,” making it too dangerous to fly.

MIA spokesman Greg Chin said airport officials are still determining the number of flights affected.

The FAA’s order was lifted around 9:30 a.m.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — – Tre Donaldson scored 23 points, Malik Reneau recorded a double-double and Miami took control in the second half to beat Notre Dame 81-69 on Tuesday night.

Reneau scored 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to go with five steals, Shelton Henderson added 17 points and Dante Allen had 11 points for Miami (15-2, 4-0 ACC), which shot 50% (29 for 58).

Jalen Haralson scored 18 points and reserve Sir Mohammed had 15 points for Notre Dame (10-7, 1-3), which has lost four of its last five.

The Hurricanes used a 17-5 run in the first six minutes of the second half to turn a 39-all halftime score into a 56-44 advantage. Donaldson made 4 of 5 shot attempts and scored nine points during that span.

It took nearly 10 minutes for the Irish to score 10 points in the second half. Notre Dame could only get within seven points on two occasions in the last nine minutes.

The Hurricanes won their 10th straight game, the first time the program has accomplished the feat in eight seasons.

Up next

Miami travels to face 22nd-ranked Clemson on Saturday.

Losers of three straight, Notre Dame heads to Virginia Tech to face the Hokies on Saturday.

Man in critical condition after he’s stabbed near ATM in Miami


A man was hospitalized in critical condition after he was stabbed near an ATM in Miami on Tuesday morning, officials said.

Miami Police officials said the man was stabbed around 8:20 a.m. in the area of West Flagler Street and Northwest 12th Avenue in Little Havana, near a Truist bank.

Miami Fire Rescue officials said the 33-year-old was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

The man’s identity wasn’t released and officials haven’t said what led to the stabbing but said no arrests have been made.

The incident remains under investigation.
