Flash flood warnings prompt evacuations for some Globe and Miami communities
GLOBE, AZ (AZFamily) — Some Gila County residents are being advised to evacuate due to severe weather and flash flooding in the area.
The Gila County Division of Emergency Management said the following areas are now on “GO” status:
- Little Acres Mobile Home Park
- Miami Gardens
“In the event of a National Weather Service flash flood warning, we strongly reccomend that residents of Miami Gardens and Little Acres Mobile Home Park evacuate the area immeditaley to seek higher ground until the weather subsides,” the county said in a social media post Sunday night.
The following areas are on “SET” status:
- Little Acres
- Residences along Russell Road (Near Russell Gulch)
- Wheatfields
There is a flash flood warning in effect until midnight.
Communities in Globe and Miami are still trying to recover from deadly flooding a few weeks ago when they were hit with fresh flood damage after more storms Sunday.
The latest downpour caused water to overflow bridges and created additional structural concerns in Globe, where some buildings remain off-limits due to instability from previous water damage.
Globe Mayor Al Gameros saw the flooding firsthand. “We stood there while it was coming over, and we kept backing up as it was coming to us,” he said. “We had a business down there that didn’t do a lot of sandbagging, and the water was up to about calf level.”
Despite the new flooding, preparedness measures helped minimize damage in many areas. Gameros said that many businesses took proactive steps this time around.
“A lot of the businesses down here went ahead and sand bagged a lot of their areas and there’s no damage, no mud in these buildings that we can see at this point so that really helped a lot,” he said.
In nearby Miami, residents also dealt with overflowing washes. Miami resident Jared Brown said the flooding “could have been a lot more damage but everybody prepared with sand bags but there is still a lot of mopping and cleaning up.”
Officials said engineers will return to assess structural damage before allowing access to restricted zones in Globe. The communities said that while Sunday’s storm could have been worse, there is still a lot of recovery work ahead.

Jeff Hafley drops cold line about expectations for Dolphins
The Miami Dolphins have gone full rebuild mode during the 2026 offseason. Miami hired Jeff Hafley at head coach and promptly gutted the roster of veteran talent, including quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. The Dolphins plan to completely rebuild the organization from the ground up, which includes installing a brand new culture.
Hafley dropped a cold line at the NFL’s Annual League Meeting about setting a standard for his team. He gave an example of expecting his to perform despite adversity, including Miami’s intense heat.
“We’re going to sit down and have that conversation, and then don’t get mad at me when it’s 110 degrees and you don’t feel like doing it anymore,” Hafley said per team transcripts. “I’m going to make you do it because you told me when you were comfortable in this meeting room, in air conditioning, that that’s what you wanted and I’m going to remind you of that.”
Hafley wants his coaching staff to follow his lead, holding players accountable during practice sessions. If the Dolphins truly want to be a great team, that could be a necessary step.
“It’s going to be a shared vision and then my job and our job as coaches is to hold them to that, because if you’re telling me you want to be up here and be this great, OK, well this is what we’re going to do,” Hafley added.
One reason why Hafley’s approach could be smart is because Miami is about to add a ton of young talent.
Miami gained the 30th overall pick after trading Jaylen Waddle, giving them two first-round picks in April’s draft. The Dolphins will enter the draft with 11 total picks, allowing them to install the foundation of their roster for years to come.
It will be exciting to see Miami’s new culture take shape under Hafley’s leadership.

Trump shares renderings of his presidential library — a massive skyscraper in Miami
President Donald Trump on Monday teased the plans for his presidential library in Miami.
Trump posted a video on Truth Social that shows a tall, glass building with a large needle on top. The building has his last name in gold lettering across its facade, an American flag hanging down the middle and a presidential plane displayed on the first floor. (A Boeing 747 given to Trump by the Qatari government is set to be displayed in his presidential library once he leaves office.)
The size of the proposed building dwarfs the nearby Freedom Tower, a downtown Miami landmark that carries special significance to Cuban immigrants in Florida — a key demographic that helped Trump win historically blue Miami-Dade County in 2024.
The video also shows replicas from Trump’s time in the White House, including the Oval Office, the West Colonnade featuring his so-called presidential walk of fame and his anticipated ballroom.
The presidential library will be designed by the Miami-based architecture and engineering firm Bermello Ajamil.
The site of the library — a prime piece of Miami real estate that borders the city’s waterfront — is a nearly 3-acre property valued at more than $67 million. The parcel became the source of a legal battle last fall after a federal judge paused the transfer of the land from a local college to the state. The judge ultimately threw out the case in December and allowed the transfer to continue.
The proposed site is not far from Trump National Doral, a resort owned by Trump’s family business.
In his Truth Social post sharing the video, Trump also included a link where people can donate to the Donald J. Trump Presidential Library Foundation Inc.
