WASHINGTON — FedEx Area in Landover, Maryland, dropped out of bidding on Thursday to host video games on the 2026 World Cup, and the Washington space merged its marketing campaign with Baltimore’s M&T Financial institution Stadium.
The joint bid would have a fan pageant on the District of Columbia’s Nationwide Mall.
FedEx Area, opened in 1997, was among the many older services that originally bid in 2017. It hosted matches through the 1999 Girls’s World Cup. D.C.’s RFK Stadium was the location of matches through the 1994 males’s World Cup and is slated for demolition.
Seventeen U.S. stadiums in 16 areas stay within the bidding for the World Cup, with the Los Angeles space submitting each SoFi Stadium in Inglewood and the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, web site of the 1994 World Cup closing.
Three cities every in Canada and Mexico are bidding. The bid plan envisioned 16 whole websites for the match. FIFA focused mid-Might for asserting web site alternatives, however that has pushed that again till at the least mid-June.
The 2026 World Cup would be the first with 48 nations and the primary with three co-hosts. FIFA chosen the bid as joint host in June 2018.

Maryland State employees getting an extra holiday, Christmas Eve
MARYLAND — In a statement emailed out Saturday afternoon, Governor Wes Moore, says state workers are getting an extra holiday in 2024, Christmas Eve.
“Our state employees have worked tirelessly all year long ensuring that Maryland is safer, more affordable, more competitive and the state that serves. We hope that all of our incredible public servants across the state can take a much-needed day to be with their loved ones this holiday season.”
The day will be treated like any other state employee holiday. This will make Tuesday, the 14th holiday for state employees.
