Coffel and Spangler Propel No. 8 Kentucky to 10-7 Comeback Win – University of Kentucky Athletics
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The No. 8 Kentucky Softball workforce scored 9 unanswered runs to come back from a six-run deficit as Erin Coffel hit two residence runs and went 4-for-4 and senior pitcher Tatum Spangler pitched 4 shutout innings because it evened the collection with No. 6 Arkansas because of a 10-7 win at Bogle Park.

This year’s team was picked to finish fourth in the ACC preseason poll and is led by Chase Hunter (16.4 points per game) and Ian Schieffelin (11.6 rebounds per game).

Andrew Carr picks up his 2nd foul

The fouls are mounting at Littlejohn Coliseum. Andrew Carr picked up his second, bringing Kentucky’s team total to five. Lamont Butler has been on the bench after picking up his second foul at the 15:11 mark. Brandon Garrison also just picked up a foul to take Kentucky’s total to six. Clemson has eight fouls total. This game could drag on well into the night.

It’s a back-and-forth battle so far. After missing two free throws Andrew Carr hit a huge three to put the Cats up 17-12. Clemson’s Dillon Hunter responded on the other end to cut that lead to three at the Under-12 media timeout. The Tigers are having their way on the offensive glass so far, with five offensive boards to Kentucky’s three for six second-chance points.

Myles Foster gave Clemson its first lead of the game but Koby Brea stole it back with his first three of the game. Unfortunately, he picked up a foul on the other end, but we’ll forgive it if it means more threes.

Good news or bad news? Good: Kentucky leads Clemson at the first media timeout. Bad: Lamont Butler just picked up his second foul. Butler’s been playing great otherwise, leading Kentucky with five points, so this is not ideal.
Both teams are a little cold early on. Kentucky is 3-9 from the floor, Clemson 2-8.

The refs are already making themselves known, calling two early questionable fouls on Lamont Butler and Andrew Carr. Mark Pope, who famously attended a referee symposium to better understand officiating, is unhappy with them so far.
It’s okay because a Lamont Butler and-one makes it 6-2 Kentucky with 18:13 to go.

If you’ve got ESPN on waiting for Kentucky vs. Clemson, you watched the end of Tennessee vs. Syracuse. I hate to say it, but the Vols looked very good, cruising past the Orangemen 96-70. Add in Missouri’s win over Cal and the SEC now leads the SEC/ACC Challenge 5-0.

Pope confirms Brandon Garrison will play vs. Clemson

Jack Pilgrim said Brandon Garrison looked good in warmups after sitting out the Georgia State game as a precautionary measure (soreness). In his pregame conversation with Tom Leach, Pope confirmed Garrison will play vs. Clemson.
“He got in a really light workout on Sunday evening, got to practice yesterday. So, he’s should be a full go today.

Arkansas comes back to beat Miami

Miami led almost the entire game but Arkansas came back to win it 76-73 thanks to some big buckets by Boogie Fland. Miami has now lost five straight games.
The SEC is now 3-0 in the SEC Challenge, as South Carolina beat Boston College 73-51 and Georgia beat Notre Dame 69-48. No. 3 Tennessee is cruising vs. Syracuse and it looks like Missouri will beat Cal too. So far, it just means more.
Brandon Garrison looks good to go

Held out “more as a precaution than anything else” due to “a little bit of soreness” against Georgia State, it appears Garrison will make his return for the Wildcats following the one-game absence.
The sophomore forward went through full warmups with no apparent setbacks.
Looks like Kentucky is back at full strength.

KSR has arrived for Kentucky’s matchup at Clemson inside Littlejohn Coliseum ahead of the opening tip. Students flooded the venue as soon as doors opened while the rest of the orange and purple have trickled in since.
They’re not alone, though. Big Blue Nation has showed out, too, with most sections featuring at least a couple of Kentucky fans and several with a good chunk of blue. Talking with BBN members around the arena, many made the short trip from Atlanta over to Clemson — just two hours away.
Plenty to get a “Go Big Blue” chant going if things swing Kentucky’s direction this evening.

The game is already being pushed back. According to Dave Baker on the official UK pregame show, tipoff has been pushed back to 9:41 p.m. ET, probably because Tennessee/Syracuse, which is also on ESPN, is only at halftime. Yawn.

Heading into the 2024-25 Kentucky basketball season, many imagined Jaxson Robinson was going to be the best player for the Kentucky Wildcats, but early into the season, that has been Otega Oweh.
Oweh, exceeding expectations is an excellent thing for the Wildcats, but on the big stage of the SEC/ACC Challenge on the road at Clemson, the Wildcats need Robinson to play well. Robinson is averaging 12 points per game, and he is only shooting 31.1% from three. If the 6’7 guard can start to shoot better from deep it will be great for his stats and Kentucky.
One of the best parts of this Kentucky basketball team is that one player won’t make or break the game. Kentucky has five players on the floor at all times who are capable of going off on any given night. While this has been the case, Robinson has had a few massive games and a few rough outings. He needs to be more consistent, and with today being his birthday, it seems like the perfect day to have a big game on the road.
When Kentucky played Duke, Robinson played really good defense, which helped the Wildcats leave with the win, but he didn’t get much going offensively, only scoring one point. It would be really helpful if Robinson could score above his season average in the team’s first on-campus road game.
Kentucky has a lot to prove in this game, and Robinson having a great showing would go a long way to helping the Wildcats secure a win in the SEC/ACC Challenge.
Coming off his best performance as a Wildcat, it appears Ja’Mori Maclin will be exploring his options in his final season of eligibility. The North Texas transfer has not yet confirmed the news publicly and we’re comfortably reading the tea leaves a bit here, but when there is smoke, there is often fire.
And the smoke is bellowing out over the Joe Craft Football Training Facility right about now.
Maclin, immediately following his 121-yard, two-touchdown performance against Louisville, was quick to call out the team’s leadership from all of the way up top down to the bottom.
“It can be all around — players, coaches, whatever it is,” he said. “At the end of the day, we’re still a team. It’s not one specific player or one specific group. All around, we need better leadership.”
He said it was an all-systems failure — “a collective thing,” the senior receiver called it. “It’s all of us.” From there, he said he’d go home and spend time with his family before making a final decision on his future, adding that the final result against Louisville and everything leading up to that point “could” push him one way or another. He wasn’t comfortable putting a timeline on it, but he’d know after talking things over with those closest to him.
48 hours later, the signs of a departure started rolling out. Freshman receiver Hardley Gilmore IV posted a cryptic message on social media seemingly wishing Maclin the best on his future.
“Blessed ain’t the word! Truly glad god put you in my life. Real stand up guy, even a better leader. Always stick to the plan love ya boy,” Gilmore said.
“Love you bro. Always got you. One of the best young players I been around. Keep working brotha,” Maclin responded.
The senior pass-catcher also shared a Bible verse, quoting Proverbs 16:9: “The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.” That came alongside multiple tweets and retweets highlighting his best moments in limited opportunities, including one that called him ‘criminally underused all season long.”

No explicit respect-my-decision announcements quite yet, but barring a major surprise out of left field, it appears that’s where this thing is trending.
