Red Bulls 0-0 Dallas: more dominance followed by disappointment

The slow-burning nightmare that’s the residence schedule for the New York Purple Bulls in 2022 stored its tempo on Saturday evening.

After one more sport that Gerhard Struber’s workforce dominated, FC Dallas nonetheless survived with a 0-0 draw as New York’s scoring struggles continued. Regardless of outshooting the Texans 20 to five and a four-fold margin within the anticipated objectives quotient, Struber’s workforce didn’t discover a completion and walked away with solely their second level in 4 residence matches to date in 2022.

Struber’s lineup noticed some notable wrinkles as designated gamers Patryk Klimala and Dru Yearwood each began from the bench as Struber each rotated for a midweek Open Cup tie and sought a distinct attacking equation to show across the workforce’s attacking struggles. Ashley Fletcher made his first begin for New York as a single striker, with Luquinhas because the lead attacking midfielder beneath with Lewis Morgan and Omir Fernandez on his flanks.

The primary half was largely in New York’s favor with seven photographs to 2 for Dallas. Struber’s 4-2-3-1 finally shifted right into a 3-5-2 with Tolkin pushing excessive after early wing assaults from Dallas. There was a acutely aware effort from the Purple Bull to get numbers into the field, with Lewis Morgan making an attempt crosses from large and Luquinhas and Omir Fernandez dovetailing on the opposite aspect with Tolkin. Probably the most harmful likelihood got here within the twenty second minute when a free ball compelled Dallas goalkeeper Maarten Paes out of his internet to move away from Luquinhas – a rebound from Lewis Morgan was chipped in direction of the empty internet however cleared off the Dallas line with a header by Matt Hedges. A second notable opening occurred within the forty first minute when a nifty carry by Frankie Amaya ended with an incisive diagonal ball that created a deflected John Tolkin shot.

The second half noticed New York flip up the warmth on Dallas even additional however to no avail. A flurry of probabilities got here within the opening ten minutes of the half – most of which falling to Omir Fernandez in a crowded field with no payoff. The sport grew to become a stoppable pressure meets slightly-movable object as Dallas struggled to flee their very own half however the Purple Bulls as soon as once more struggled to create clear hazard, and once more slipping right into a telegraphed crossing assault within the late phases.

As New York continued to commit males ahead, Dallas discovered occasional alternatives by way of counter-attacks; most notably a flubbed likelihood by Paul Arriola coming simply moments after Franco Jara compelled a attribute result-saving cease from Carlos Coronel within the 83rd minute. However because the Purple Bulls grew to become more and more pissed off and determined to attain within the sport’s last minutes the match grew to become uneven and bodily, with Tom Edwards incomes a yellow card for a pissed off skirmish with Dallas attacker Alan Velasco. As Fotis Bazakos blew the ultimate whistle on a scoreless draw, a shoving match erupted between Dallas striker Jara and several other New York defenders undoubtedly pissed off with one other dominant however disappointing residence efficiency.

“What we make investments on this sport, in all 4 phases of the sport, we create what we wish and get the probabilities we wish,” mentioned Gerhard Struber postgame as his workforce stays third within the Japanese Convention on the again of excellent highway type. “However in the long run, we don’t rating, and we will’t go away a efficiency like this with one level.”

“I believe it’s in these moments that we want somewhat extra steadiness and never be stunned by the probabilities we create – the gamers want to remain cool. We’re knowledgeable soccer workforce and we have now to understand these factors at residence.”

Captain Aaron Lengthy seconded Struber’s ideas that the workforce had a “respectable efficiency” with one other clear sheet however that the workforce’s lack of sharpness within the last third continues to let good run-outs go unrewarded. On the fights on the finish of the match, Lengthy mentioned “you noticed plenty of guys who need to win” and that workforce expects to have scoring luck go their means quickly.

The workforce faces its quickest turnaround of the younger season so far with an Open Cup tie towards Hartford Athletic in Connecticut, with each captain and coach staking out the midweek tie as a possibility to open the scoring floodgates the workforce is assured on.

Mavericks Conference Rival Makes Curious Trade

Mavericks Conference Rival Makes Curious Trade

Shams Bomb! On Friday night, the Minnesota Timberwolves made the first big trade of the post-Adrian Wojnarowski “Woj Bomb” era by trading power forward Karl-Anthony Towns to the New York Knicks for Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo, breaking up the “Nova Knicks.”

A bit of a surprising trade, to say the least, the Western Conference runners-up are shipping off what was a pillar of their franchise for the last several seasons. The timing seems odd considering what they just accomplished with Towns as a major part of their offense, a floor-spacing big man who can shoot the ball as well as any 7-footer in the NBA (just ask him).

Rumors were swirling that DiVincenzo was unhappy in his role, according to the post below on X.

This is an interesting trade for multiple reasons. The first is that it completely reworks the offense for the Timberwolves, as they no longer have the same ability to run the pick-and-pop that has been a staple of their offense for as long as Towns has been playing there. While Randle brings his own benefits to the table, it is still a bit confounding as to why they would make the move now.

Though Towns struggled to do what he does – shoot the ball – in the Dallas Mavericks series, connecting on just 37.9% of overall field goals and 24.2% from three, it is still going to cause a complete change in the way that the Timberwolves attack defenses.

For the Knicks, opening up the floor could help players like former Maverick and current New York point guard Jalen Brunson as well as help Mikal Bridges and Josh Hart, and could provide some rebounding as well. After losing Isaiah Hartenstein in free agency, the Knicks still have issues with big-man depth, but at least this move adds some floor spacing to their repertoire.

Letters to the Editor – Three cheers to Oncor, DMN carrier, John McCaa

1 Oncor — I want to give a gold star to Oncor’s streetlight repair efforts. I have used their online tool to report failed streetlights several times, and they have been fixed within a few days.

The tool is very easy to use, as it shows a map of lights near your location. You just select the problem light and pick its problem from the list and then submit.

2 Dallas Morning News carrier — We have the most amazing young man who delivers our newspaper. My husband Garry had neck surgery and was wearing his collar. He had taken our dog out in the front yard and Jesse (our carrier) saw my husband.

Opinion

Get smart opinions on the topics North Texans care about.

He left his car and delivered the paper to him, telling Garry that the paper would be on the front porch. He did it daily. One day, he left a note that he would be on vacation for three days, so we’d have to get our papers on the sidewalk.

Jesse is back and our paper is on the front porch again. As an aside, Garry is doing well.

A huge thank you to a thoughtful young man!

3 John McCaa — I always enjoyed McCaa’s television reporting and now I look forward to his columns in The Dallas Morning News.

I appreciate his honesty and that he addresses real problems in our community.

I’d like to thank him for sharing ideas that ring true. And thank you, Dallas Morning News, for featuring him as a contributing columnist.

Cowboys have become latest victims of MetLife Stadium turf

The MetLife Stadium turf, a perennial thorn in the side of NFL players, has struck again. This time, the victim is Dallas Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons, who was carted off the field during the team’s Thursday night victory over the New York Giants.

Parsons’ injury, a high ankle sprain, is the latest in a long line of player injuries directly attributed to the MetLife Stadium field.

The playing surface has been criticized for its inconsistency and susceptibility to divots and tears, leading to numerous player complaints and concerns about the safety of the game.

The Cowboys’ injury troubles continued as Parsons was not the only player affected. Cornerback Trevon Diggs left the game due to an injury sustained while attempting a tackle and was taken to the locker room for dehydration.

Additionally, defensive end Demarcus Lawrence suffered a foot injury that will keep him sidelined for the next few weeks.

In previous years, we have witnessed some well-known players’ seasons come to an end on that very field.

Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers suffered a torn Achilles last year, 49ers pass rusher Nick Bosa suffered a torn ACL in a 2020 game against the New York Jets, DT Solomon Thomas and quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo also got injured, and former Giants wide receiver Sterling Shepard tore his ACL in Week 3 of the 2022 season while running down the field.

As the NFL continues to prioritize player safety, it is imperative that league officials address the recurring issues with the MetLife Stadium field.
