Arkansas Gov. Sanders targets critical race theory in executive order
In one among her first strikes as governor of Arkansas, Sarah Huckabee Sanders issued an government order that targets the educating of race in lecture rooms, requiring the state to assessment its insurance policies to snuff out what she says is educating that will “indoctrinate college students with ideologies” equivalent to important race principle.
Vital race principle is an educational idea that appears at how systematic racism has impacted American legal guidelines and establishments. The concept has been below intense fireplace from conservative lawmakers, who level to it as a tactic that instills anti-American values in kids.
The chief order by Sanders bars lecturers from speaking about race in sure methods within the classroom, together with the concept that one race is superior or inferior to a different. The motion places the newly sworn-in governor in a protracted line of conservative executives and lawmakers who’ve sworn to squash the speculation.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who has emerged as one of many get together’s main right-wing voices, signed into regulation a invoice that banned important race principle within the state in 2022. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott signed a invoice in 2021 that limits how lecturers can discuss race within the state, aiming to ban the educating of the speculation.
“Vital Race Principle (CRT) is antithetical to the normal American values of neutrality, equality, and equity,” the chief order from Sanders mentioned. “It emphasizes pores and skin colour as an individual’s main attribute, thereby resurrecting segregationist values, which America has fought so onerous to reject.”
The order from Sanders can be a fruits of labor from state lawmakers in Arkansas who sought and didn’t move a invoice that will ban important race principle within the state.
Sanders was sworn in as governor on Tuesday and was met with a message of encouragement from former President Trump, saying in a social media submit that his former White Home press secretary “is a incredible individual and will likely be a very unbelievable Governor.”

Purdue lands pledge from Arkansas LB transfer Alex Sanford
Purdue is starting to pick up steam on the transfer portal market as former Arkansas linebacker Alex Sanford announced his commitment to the Boilermakers following an official visit to West Lafayette this weekend.
Sanford becomes Purdue’s second transfer portal pickup of the cycle and second from Arkansas, following quarterback Malachi Singleton, who announced his commitment to the Boilermakers earlier this week.
The redshirt freshman linebacker had committed to Arkansas to play for Barry Odom and Mike Scherer when the two were coaching in Fayetteville. Two years later he now follows the Boilermakers’ new head coach and defensive coordinator to West Lafayette at a position of need.
Purdue had a thin linebacker corps this season, which saw Kydran Jenkins and Yanni Karlaftis depart this off-season. Sanford now joins Hudson Miller, Winston Berglund and Owen Davis as players with experience at the linebacker position for the Boilermakers heading into 2025.
Sanford has had a minimal role on defense during his career, playing just nine snaps, but he has carved out a consistent role on special teams. Sanford had the third most special teams snaps of any Razorback in 2024, and 328 across his two seasons, serving on the kick return, kick coverage, punt return and punt coverage units, holding a 65.2 Pro Football Focus grade in that regard.
Sanford will have two years of eligibility remaining with the Boilermakers.
