It didn’t take long for Purdue to bounce back after a 92-88 overtime loss to Northwestern on Dec. 1.

This past Monday, the Boilermakers defeated Iowa 87-68. Today, No. 4 Purdue (8-1) takes on Alabama (6-2) in Toronto in the Hall of Fame Series.

That was an exciting first half. Alabama came out firing and has made 13 of 25 shot attempts from beyond the arc. Purdue, however, is getting its points closer to the basket. The Boilermakers made 15 of 27 shot attempts from the floor (56%).

Zach Edey has just 2 rebounds, but his 16 points are the most a player has scored in the game so far. Braden Smith put up 8 points and 3 assists.

Purdue cut it to 31-29 at one point, but Alabama distanced itself a tad since then. Zach Edey leads Purdue with 11 points. Braden Smith has 6 points.

Alabama has made 8 of 13 3-point shot attempts (57%). However, Purdue isn’t going away. Braden Smith hit a 3 before the break to keep the Boilermakers within 8.

Alabama started to miss some shots but still has converted 58% of its attempts from the floor and 60% from 3.

Unemployment claims in Alabama declined last week


Initial filings for unemployment benefits in Alabama dropped last week compared with the week prior, the U.S. Department of Labor said Thursday.

New jobless claims, a proxy for layoffs, fell to 2,210 in the week ending June 15, down from 2,501 the week before, the Labor Department said.

U.S. unemployment claims dropped to 238,000 last week, down 5,000 claims from 243,000 the week prior on a seasonally adjusted basis.

Delaware saw the largest percentage increase in weekly claims, with claims jumping by 131.2%. Virgin Islands, meanwhile, saw the largest percentage drop in new claims, with claims dropping by 54.7%.
