Insider: Steelers Using Justin Fields Like Derrick Henry?

PITTSBURGH — With Russell Wilson being named the starting quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Justin Fields has continued to work towards more opportunities with his new team.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler spoke on the Steelers’ quarterback situation on NFL Live, providing new information he had heard.

“Russell Wilson’s undisputably the QB number one. He’s not splitting reps. However, I’ve talked to multiple teams who expect the Steelers to utilize Justin Fields as a runner and passer in the goal line, think eight yards and in.” said Fowler. “Arthur Smith, the new OC, used Derrick Henry as a quarterback/passer when he was in Tennessee calling plays, so why couldn’t you use a guy like Fields with his big-time ability?”

In three NFL seasons, Fields has totaled 2,220 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns, including a 1,000-yard season in 2022. The Steelers are favoring Russell Wilson as their starting quarterback, but the the athleticism that Fields carries, it shouldn’t surprise anyone if he does take snaps during a game.

If he does, it’ll also allow the Steelers to see what they have the in 25-year-old quarterback prior to his contract expiring. If Fields intends to be the future in Pittsburgh, and the Steelers intend to give him that opportunity, they may want to see how electric he can be during live-game action.

Kenny Chesney fans pack Pittsburgh concert

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — People tailgated for hours ahead of Kenny Chesney’s concert in Pittsburgh on Saturday, on both land and sea.

It might as well have been a high school reunion for Mackenzie McNally.

“You just get to see them and you get to drink and have fun,” McNally said.

Even after tailgating at numerous Chesney concerts, she’s never actually made it inside, until now.

“I’ve been excited for this my whole life,” McNally said.

That was an experience shared by a lot of people. Rather than tailgate, some people were in boats on the river. Some called it “sailgating” while others called it “boatgating.” They told KDKA-TV that you can hear the concert from the boats.

“What’s better than being on a boat for a Kenny Chesney concert,” Edgar Parrilla II said. “I have a boat full of 15 people. We’re all partying, and we’re all listening to music.”

He explained the last time he tailgated a Chesney concert in Pittsburgh, people were burning couches, something he said made him want to come back.

Asked if it was that rowdy on Saturday, he said only in a few specific lots.

“It was really crazy, but we were having a good time. There was nothing too out of pocket,” concertgoer Alice said.

She did note how bathroom lines were long, while a friend of hers said there was a bonfire. Others had an even more positive experience.

“It’s been a good time here. Everything is getting better with crime and hostility,” said Julia Genuardi, who said the tailgate experience was better this year than the last time she attended.

Genuardi noticed people cleaning up after themselves and others on Saturday. There was a significant amount of trash left in the lots during the concert, but a street sweeper vehicle was going around the lots picking up trash.

“It feels like everyone has really come together and realized, why are we gonna be rowdy and rude? Let’s be nice and have fun,” Genuardi said.

Chesney took the stage at around 9:15 p.m. on Saturday.

1 Injured In Propane Tank Fire At Three Rivers Arts Festival

PITTSBURGH, PA — A man was injured Friday night at the Three Rivers Arts Festival in downtown Pittsburgh when a propane tank overpressurized and caught fire, authorities said.

According to Pittsburgh police, the incident happened around 5:20 p.m. at the festival’s food court, located at Fort Duquesne Boulevard and 8th Street. Initially, authorities thought the propane tank exploded but later determined it had overpressurized.

The man — a 28-year-old food service employee working at one of the vendor tents — suffered second-degree burns to his arms and lower legs, police said. Pittsburgh EMS took him to an area hospital, where he was in stable condition.
