Within the second to final sport of the yr, Nevada received in opposition to the Pittsburg Purple Dragons, however not of their dominant vogue like now we have seen them have. In truth, this was their first win for the reason that powerful loss in opposition to Harrisonville Monday afternoon after they misplaced 5-7. However Head Coach for the Tigers Danny Penn believes the Tigers can get higher. I used to be actually proud of how we began the ball sport, stated Penn. We put up a zero on the highest of the primary after which once we got here as much as him, we scored three runs on and simply type of grabbed the momentum. And you understand when you would have requested me on the finish of the primary day how I felt I might have stated I am very impressed with how we responded after yesterday’s letdown.
The sport began off with Pittsburg scoreless within the prime of the primary with one runner left on base, however the Tigers scored three runs within the backside half with #4 Cade Beshore, #1 Drake Ketterman, and Sanderson. Then within the prime of the second, the house plate umpire was truly hit within the higher left elbow after a verify swing by #23 Braden Benson of the Dragons. The umpire was in ache, and the sport was halted for about 10 minutes. Then play resumed after the umpires switched positions on the sector, and the sport was again in motion.
That’s the place #6 Beau Pasteur for Pittsburg scored their first run. With two outs, Pittsburg had their bases loaded after Sanderson was having bother discovering the strike zone, however was capable of strike out #14 Tyler Sutton, and was headed to the underside half of the second inning with the rating being 3-1 of their favor. After getting the primary two batters out within the backside half of the inning, Beshore reminded them it wasnt going to be straightforward for the Dragons to beat them as he hit a pleasant fly ball to proper middle subject. Pittsburg did get the three outs they wanted, and ended the second inning with the rating being the identical.
Nevada rapidly acquired the three batters out in a row, and have been trying ahead to extending their lead within the backside half of the third inning. Sanderson hit a chopper to left middle, and with the outfielders confused about who was going to get it, let Sanderson land in his base after nobody caught it. No. 14 Eli Cheaney acquired a maintain of the pitch and landed a house run in left subject, letting him and Sanderson rating and now making the rating 5-1. Sadly after the following two batters for the Tigers have been out, #1 Riddick Shook struck out for the third straight strike out, and was headed to the highest of the fourth.
However then, issues began to unravel for the Tigers. After the primary two outs, Pittsburg scored two extra runs because of Nevada having a problem on speaking. Sanderson’s throw to Marquardt was missed whereas making an attempt to get the batter out. Then Marquardt’s throw to Beshore (catcher) was missed whereas making an attempt to get the runner on third out. Then Sutton hit a line drive to proper middle permitting one other runner to attain, and now we had a one rating ball sport with Nevada main. All through the season from sport one to sport 21, quoted Penn, these are the varieties of errors we informed our guys we won’t have. Should you’re gonna make a mistake, make it enjoying 100 miles an hour and allow us to inform you that we have to decelerate. Not the opposite manner round once we’re having to inform you to give attention to getting the sport. So sport 21 was actually disappointing.
The Tigers redeemed themselves after Sutton tried to steal second base, however had a throwdown to second getting the runner out. The rating was now 5-4 with Nevada resulting in the underside of the inning. Shook was as much as bat and hit second base, which acquired the runner on first out in addition to Shook for a double play, and was headed to the highest of the fifth.
No. 5 Asa Wilson had a pleasant catch in proper subject after he caught the ball pushed out to him by the Purple Dragons for the primary out within the prime of the inning. The Tigers had a pitching change, and changed Sanderson with #17 Caiden Klumpp on the mound for Nevada. Klumpp acquired the funk out getting the batter out at first, and the rating remained the identical headed to the underside of the inning. Sadly for the Tigers who had Sanderson at third base, they werent capable of rating and the scoreboard stayed the identical headed to the highest of the sixth. Nevada acquired the third out they wanted by Wilson out in proper subject, and the Nevada crew was headed to the underside of the inning.
With the Tigers having two runners on base and two outs, Ketterman loaded the bases after a floor ball to proper subject. Then Sanderson was up subsequent, and was walked dwelling, which additionally meant that Pittsburg walked dwelling a run and now the rating was 6-4. The Purple Dragons determined it was time for a pitching change and changed Turnbull with #22 Blaine Dunstan. Cheaney hit a fly ball to proper subject, Pittsburg acquired the third out they usually have been headed to the highest of the seventh. Three outs is what Nevada wanted to win the ball sport early, and it got here straightforward within the first out, when the Tigers caught the ball headed to left subject. Then the Tigers acquired the runner out on first, and at last acquired the opposite runner out headed to first base, after a tricky throw by Cheaney and Nevada received 6-4 in a tricky ball sport.
When speaking concerning the miss cues and miss communications in Wednesdays ball sport, Coach Penn informed nothing however the trustworthy reality. That was a spotlight of follow on Monday, and so to see us not have the ability to efficiently deal with these varieties of performs two days later is worrisome. However we will remind our guys once more, about the necessity to talk and to stroll the baseball and have anyone must name you off. Do not let it’s a scenario the place everyone’s one another, questioning who’s going to subject the baseball and in order that’ll be a spotlight of follow Thursday.
Lastly, the following sport the Tigers will play might be this afternoon for the ultimate dwelling match up of the common season in opposition to the Fort Scott Tigers beginning at 4:30 p.m. When speaking about Fort Scott, Penn made it simply identified he needs to win. They’re one other high quality program that we’re completely satisfied we get one other dwelling sport within the common season. We’re completely satisfied that it is in opposition to a high quality opponent that is going to pressure us to be targeted and play good baseball rivalry. These varieties of video games are enjoyable as a result of loads of the children have performed with or in opposition to one another since they have been little. Coaches know one another and have identified one another for a very long time. And so it is enjoyable to play in these varieties of video games to have bragging rights for a yr to 2 years. Friday is our final costume rehearsal for the postseason match. So we’re simply going to be trying to fireplace on all cylinders and hopefully play the perfect sport we will.

Steelers’ Justin Fields makes big reveal on his future in Pittsburgh
When the Pittsburgh Steelers entered the 2024 offseason, many changes were made to the quarterback room. Former Steelers quarterbacks Kenny Pickett, Mitch Trubisky and Mason Rudolph all went to different teams. It was a much needed reset for the organization as the quarterback situation wasn’t working out after future Hall of Fame quarterback Ben Roethlisberger retired after the 2021 campaign. The team brought in veteran Russell Wilson and former first-round pick Justin Fields during the 2024 offseason.
Although Fields started the season with a 4-2 record, Wilson took over the starting job in Week 7. Both the Steelers’ franchise and quarterbacks will have a decision to make during the offseason about their potential futures in Pittsburgh.
Wilson has mainly been linked to reports saying he was looking for a deal to stay in Pittsburgh. Although he’s had his good moments, Wilson has also made costly mistakes in-game that have hurt the team. His age is also a concern for the Steelers, as he’s a quarterback who doesn’t have many years left in him, and it’s quite clear he can’t run like he used to.
Fields’ future in Pittsburgh is more up in the air. There haven’t been as many reports on if he is looking for a new deal or not. Roethlisberger expressed on the “Footbahlin With Ben Roethlisberger” podcast that he’d like to see Fields stay in Pittsburgh for another year. Kevin Gorman of TribLive spoke with Fields directly about his future in Pittsburgh, and he revealed his thoughts moving forward in a Saturday morning article.
“I want to be here,” Fields told Gorman. “I’m kind of tired of learning a new offense every year. This will be my third in four years. Of course I’d love to be back, but that’s all up to God at the end of the day. I’ll be where God wants me to be.”
Fields didn’t have the best experience with the Chicago Bears. He was quickly moved into a starting quarterback role for a fan base that was hungry to win. The team didn’t have the right weapons for him and coaches didn’t help Fields out. It was a lot of pressure for Fields trying to be the new franchise quarterback in Chicago when fans didn’t fully support him, either. Fields needed a fresh start, and Pittsburgh gave that to him.
During his six-game stretch, Fields threw for 1,106 yards, and throughout the season, even after getting moved to back up Wilson, he has still used his legs and rushed for 289 yards. His legs are a weapon, and Fields could easily get out of the pocket to either make a throw or run it himself. Fans were concerned about his throwing ability, but Fields has had a true opportunity to finally learn under a veteran quarterback for most of the season.
Fields and Wilson have been seen talking and smiling on the sideline together, showing they have a good relationship. It’s never easy to start a season well and then be replaced as the starting quarterback, but Fields said that he has taken this time to learn and grow as a quarterback.
“Russ has been great,” Fields said. “Of course, his job is not to mentor me. But anytime I have a question for him, anytime I ask a question he gives me his thoughts on that. I’m always picking his brain on different things.”
Wilson has also spoken highly of Fields throughout the season. He’s known to be a supportive and positive teammate, which will help any player. It’s a great situation to have when a team has two capable, starting quarterbacks who want to be in Pittsburgh.
It’d be ideal if the Steelers chose to keep both players and see what happens next season, but head coach Mike Tomlin came into this season wanting Wilson as the starter, so he may be swayed to keep Wilson over Fields if it came to that.
Fields would be the ideal quarterback moving forward
Wilson has been great for the Steelers and has shown major improvement for an offense that has been stale the past few seasons, but in terms of the future, the Steelers need to really consider going with Fields. Once Roethlisberger retired, a whole new era began in Pittsburgh. It’s always rough for an organization to lose its franchise quarterback and start over, but it needs to be figured out early on so the team isn’t set back for seasons to come.
Fields is still 25-years-old and has a lot to prove in this league. His running is his strongest ability, but he said in the article that he knows his arm strength is just as important. The Steelers started 4-2 with Fields, so who knows what would’ve happened if he started the rest of the season? It’s a big decision for the Steelers’ organization, but knowing Fields wants to be back in Pittsburgh, even after watching from the sidelines for most of the season, is a great sign.

Steady snowfall starts Sunday night throughout Pittsburgh region
We’re feeling the coldest air of the season so far with wind chills close to zero across much of the area. The wind will back off later, with a few peeks of sun possible, so it won’t feel as bad this afternoon.
Steady snow pushes into the area tonight and may arrive as soon as 10 or 11 p.m. for areas close to the Mason-Dixon line. For most, snow starts falling overnight in waves through Monday morning. Another round of steady snow is expected to develop Monday afternoon, mainly from Pittsburgh points south.
A Winter Storm Warning goes into effect for Fayette, Washington and Westmoreland Counties at 7 p.m. and remains active until Monday at 7 p.m. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for the same period for Allegheny and Indiana counties.
Allegheny County still looks to be very close to the cutoff for higher snow totals, with amounts close to 6″ near I-70 and generally an inch or two expected north. Snow should be nearly done by Monday evening, with only flurries possible into Tuesday morning.
Mid-week looks quiet but cold with highs still in the 20s. More snow showers will develop late Wednesday night with an Arctic front as wind chills drop below zero again for the end of the week.
