BOYS BASKETBALL

Peter Cloherty hit a free throw with 2.1 seconds left to give Arlington a 46-45 win over Everett. Kayden Mills led the way for the Spy Ponders (4-1) with 14 points.

In the Boverini Tournament semi-finals, JJ Martinez poured in 29 points as St. Mary’s of Lynn (4-1) edged Lynn English 68-64 in overtime.

Ryan Higgins tallied 19 points and Josiah Adamson added 14 points to lead four different players who scored in double-digits, powering Catholic Memorial to a 95-39 win over Springfield Science & Tech in the Garden City Holiday Classic.

Ryan Araujo posted 12 points with six rebounds, pairing with Dantae Clarke’s 10 points and seven rebounds, as well as Michael Barron’s nine points and seven assists, to fuel Mashpee (4-2) in a 52-50 nonleague win over Upper Cape Tech.

In the Skip Karam Holiday Tournament, Troy Santos dropped 42 points with 35 of those coming in the second half as Taunton took down Durfee 88-71.

 

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Senior captain Cecilia Kay notched 16 points and 16 rebounds while sophomore Caitlin Boyle added 14 points and seven boards as Bishop Fenwick (4-1) outlasted Medfield 48-43 in the Rivard Tournament semi-finals.

In the Garden City Holiday Classic, Devon Burke led with 14 while Eva Mesher and Maggie Scanlon both chipped in with 10 points as Newton North rolled to a 58-26 victory over Newton South.

Emily Collins won tournament MVP with 16 points as Winchester took down Concord-Carlisle 50-43 in the Bob Bigelow Holiday Classic championship.

 

BOYS HOCKEY

Jay Carter’s hat trick and three assists put him over 100 points on his career, pairing with Will Manchuso’s hat trick and three assists to lead Concord-Carlisle past Wachusett, 7-3, in the Battle Road Classic championship. CJ Bailey had 28 saves and Joe Grasso had four assists in the win.

Ben Merrill scored twice and Chris Sacco made 36 saves as Masconomet (4-2) rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Wakefield, 3-2, in nonleague play. … Marcel Joe buried two goals and added an assist for Andover en route to a 4-3 win over Bishop Fenwick. … Stevie McIntosh earned his first career win and three different players scored as Billerica (3-1-1) topped Burlington, 3-1.

Garrett Sager scored four goals to lead Stoughton/Brockton to a 6-3 victory over Holiston in the Bellingham Holiday Tournament.

Johnny Bell’s hat trick fueled an offensive explosion as Weymouth ran away with a 7-3 win over Duxbury to take the ICO Cup championship. … Joe McManus scored late in the third period for the game-winner, leading Nauset to a 2-1 win over Scituate in the consolation game.

Dante Sousa held down the net with 34 saves, keeping the score tied until Luke May delivered the game-winner for St. John’s of Shrewsbury (5-1) with 12 seconds left as part of a 2-1 win over Marshfield in the Pat Serio Cup championship game. … Ben Paterson scored two goals before assisting Anthony Lampasona for the game-winner in overtime, leading Franklin to a 3-2 win over Framingham in the consolation game.

Freshmen led the way for BC High (1-4) to get its first win, as Diego Menes scored both goals and Drew Karlovitz posted 13 saves for a 2-1 triumph over Central Catholic in the Pete Frates Winter Classic consolation match.

Cam McGonagle scored twice and Chase Collins each added scores as St. Mary’s won the Christie Serino Holiday Tournament with a 4-1 win over Malden Catholic.

Pat Ryan’s first career goal was the game-winner as Whitman-Hanson went on to defeat Abington 4-2 for the Cashman Tournament championship. … Chris Stone registered his first career shutout as Silver Lake topped Rockland, 4-0, in the consolation game.

GIRLS HOCKEY

In the Falmouth Tournament finals, Casey Roth scored twice while Riley Devlin and Avery Johnsen each had two assists as Falmouth defeated Longmeadow 4-1.

Kiki Lynch had 20 saves in net, while Tayla McDuff and Annabelle Curran each scored for King Philip as it defeated Medway/Ashland 2-1 in the Medway/Ashland New Years Invitational.

Abbie Poole dished a pair of assists in a well-rounded attack, helping Malden Catholic (5-0) stay unbeaten with a 4-0 nonleague win over Bishop Fenwick.

FOOTBALL

Stephen Aborn resigned from his job as head football coach at Pembroke to join his son’s business. In an email, Aborn said it was not an easy thing to do as he thoroughly enjoyed his four years at the helm, lauding the administration and parental support he received.

“It was a wonderful experience. Honestly, it was the best coaching experience I’ve ever had,” Aborn said. “Unfortunately work and logistics just became too difficult for me to handle. I’m working for my son, who is running the fastest growing company in Massachusetts and it just has become really burdensome to try to do both.”
