Powerball winner looking for buyer of South Dakota ranch
VALE, S.D. (KELO) — In 2009, then 23-year-old Neal Wanless, of Mission, South Dakota, purchased a Powerball ticket within the aptly named city of Winner. It turned out to be value $232 million.
Choosing a single lump-sum payout of $118 million, Wanless wound up with a bit over $88 million after taxes have been withdrawn, and used a portion of the cash to purchase a ranch in western South Dakota close to the city of Vale.
In 2020, Wanless listed the greater than 40,000 acre Bismarck Path Ranch on the market at a tune of $41.15 million with Corridor and Corridor, a prime ranch brokerage agency within the U.S.
The ranch has thus far gone unsold.
This week, the ranch, which boasts 4 properties, a number of units of working amenities, quite a few buildings and a number of pastures with water sources, has seen a value drop, with the asking value falling to $37.5 million.
Robb Nelson, a Actual Property Accomplice with Corridor and Corridor spoke on the telephone with Nexstar’s KELO to supply a bit extra data in regards to the property.
Nelson says there are lots of historic markers on the land, displaying the places of now long-gone cities and publish places of work which laid alongside the Deadwood-Bismarck Path from which the ranch takes its title.
Requested about the very best factor in regards to the ranch, which Nelson says he’s visited many occasions, he mentioned what is actually particular is the dimensions and high quality of the property. Nelson says that because of the age of many of the “enhancements” to the ranch, such because the constructing and fences, that are simply 12 years outdated, the ranch would require nearly no fast repairs or upkeep for a potential purchaser.
With regards to the dimensions of the ranch, Nelson says that this can be very uncommon to seek out one prefer it within the Nice Plains, with most ranches of this dimension and high quality mendacity in Colorado or Montana.
Nelson himself has a singular tie to the world through which the land sits. He says his great-grandfather, Andrew Rosander, was the founding father of close by Vale.
As to why Wanless is promoting the property, Nelson cites an absence of use, telling KELO that Wanless “married a gal from Canada,” and that they spend a lot of their time between British Columbia and a property they personal in Arizona.
Nelson says he made the advice to decrease the worth of the ranch to $37.5 million to be able to hopefully encourage potential consumers.
Footage of the ranch and extra particulars in regards to the property will be discovered right here on Corridor and Corridor’s web site.

Washington State hires South Dakota State’s Jimmy Rogers as football coach
PULLMAN, Wash. — Washington State hired South Dakota State’s Jimmy Rogers as its head football coach Saturday.
Rogers replaces Jake Dickert, who left to become Wake Forest’s head coach Dec. 18.
”Throughout the process, it was evident Jimmy embodies the qualities needed to lead our program: character, passion, vision and commitment,” Washington State athletic director Anne McCoy said in a statement. ”His coaching acumen is extremely high as is his work ethic, and the value he places on mentoring the young men in his program is evident.”
Rogers arrives in Pullman after two successful years as South Dakota State’s head coach. He led the Jackrabbits to the 2023 FCS national championship and to the national semifinals this season, compiling a 27-3 record.
Rogers earned the Eddie Robinson Award as the FCS’s top coach following the 2023 championship run and was the defensive coordinator when the Jackrabbits won the national title the year before. He’s spent the past 12 years at South Dakota State, starting as linebackers coach in 2013.
Rogers played linebacker for three seasons at South Dakota State, ending his career as the school’s career tackles leader. He started his coaching career at his alma mater right after his playing days and spent two seasons at Florida Atlantic before returning.
Rogers takes over a program decimated by the transfer portal. The Cougars lost at least 25 players and several coaches, including both coordinators.
Short-handed Washington State lost 52-35 to No. 22 Syracuse in the Holiday Bowl on Friday night.
