Men’s Basketball: TCU Loses to Michigan 64-76
TCU dropped their first game of the season Friday.
The Frogs lost 64-76 at Michigan to fall to 3-1 on the season.
The Frogs were without Ernest Udeh Jr. in this one.
TCU’s usual starting center was a late scratch in this one because of a lower back injury suffered in the first half against Texas State.
Udeh Jr. was a game-time decision, but decided not to play after going through pregame warmups.
True freshman David Punch got the start and fellow true freshman Malick Diallo played heavy minutes to fill this void.
Both players played well considering the circumstances were in.
Punch had six points, seven rebounds, two steals, and a highlight reel posterizing dunk in 27 minutes.
Diallo had two points, one rebound, and one block in 13 minutes.
Udeh Jr. being out is obviously a big blow for the Frogs, but the play of the freshmen is an encouraging sign for the future.
The main reason TCU lost this game is lack of offensive efficiency.
The Frogs shot 34% from the field, 26% from three-point range, and 68% from the free-throw line.
There were a lot of issues in the half court as well, a trend TCU fans have seen in the past.
Obviously it is more difficult in a tough environment with Ernest Udeh Jr. out, but these numbers need to be improved if the Frogs want to find more success.
This game was very sloppy on both sides with 33 combined turnovers between the two teams.
TCU did force 21 Michigan turnovers, which was a huge positive for the Frogs, but only 22 points off this amount of takeaways should be improved.
The formula worked with pressure and even a full court press at times, which the Frogs can take into future games, but the poor offensive game was just too much to overcome.
This game had positives to takeaway, like the fight from the team throughout the game, the defense, and the Frankie Collins posterizing dunk that took over social media.
However, the Frogs should look to improve the offense when they take on Alcorn State next Tuesday.

Michigan Football: Sherrone Moore visits top QB commit in Florida
With Michigan on a bye week, head coach Sherrone Moore made his way to Florida to check in on his four-star quarterback commit, Brady Hart. The 6-4, 180 pound gunslinger is putting together an impressive junior campaign, and there’s a strong belief that he could work himself into a five-star prospect before it’s all said and done.
It’s noteworthy that Moore was joined by his offensive coordinator, Kirk Campbell. Given the lack of success from the Michigan offense in 2024, there’s speculation that Moore may opt to go in a different direction with a new offensive coordinator for 2025. But in addition to being the OC, Campbell is also the quarterbacks coach and is solid on the recruiting trail.
Michigan currently has three members of the 2026 recruiting class:
- Brady Hart, QB – Four-Star
- Brody Jennings, CB – Three-star
- Jaylen Pile, WR – Three-star

Second Florida man sentenced for stealing rent checks in Michigan
A second Florida man was sentenced on Thursday for stealing rent checks in four Michigan counties.
Rafael Rodriguez, 44, was sentenced at the 42nd Circuit Court to serve between six and 20 years in prison, the Michigan Department of Attorney General announced in a press release.
Rodriguez, along with co-defendant Juan Miguel Rodriguez-Venegas, of Florida, stole money orders and cash from apartment complex drop boxes and mobile home parks between 2019 and 2022, according to the release.
The two men targeted residences in Oakland, Saginaw, Bay and Midland Counties, according to the release. The Midland County Prosecutor’s Office and Department of Attorney General filed joint charges in March.
Both men pleaded guilty in August to one count of conducting a criminal enterprise and agreed to pay restitution.
Rodriguez-Venegas, 55, was sentenced to serve between two to 20 years in prison in September.
Reached Friday, Rodriguez’ attorney, Mitchell Manwell, declined to comment on the case.
“Michiganders work hard and deserve better than having their rent payments fished out of drop boxes and stolen by criminals,” Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said at the time Rodriguez pled, according to the release. “Thanks to our partnership with Midland County Prosecuting Attorney J. Dee Brooks, the perpetrators of this scheme will be held accountable and required to compensate these rent-theft victims.”
Rodriguez’ sentencing is the latest development in a case of stolen checks in Michigan.
A former Warren nursing home manager was charged in September for allegedly stealing more than $7,792 in checks from eight nursing home residents. The Southfield man was charged with six embezzlement counts.
Check fraud cases escalated from 350,000 reports of check fraud in 2021 to approximately 680,000 in 2023, the Associated Press reported. Postal authorities and bank officials warned Americans to avoid mailing checks or to use secure mail drops inside post offices.
Check usage has been on the decline for decades with credit and debit cards’ popularity surging. The average size of checks Americans rose from $673 in 1990 – or $1,602 in today’s dollars – to $2,652 last year, per AP.
