Summer weather forecast in Kansas City 2024
We know the question on your mind, Kansas Citians — what’s summer going to feel like? Thanks to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Climate Prediction Center, we know what temperatures and precipitation trends to expect in our city for June, July, and August. While exact weather conditions typically can’t be predicted more than a week in advance, here’s a seasonal outlook to help you prepare for what summer will bring.
Reminder: The first day of summer is on Thursday, June 20.
We’re dreaming of a hot summer, just like the ones we used to know.

Temperature
Think hot. This summer KC has a 33-40% chance of temperatures being higher than normal.
Precipitation
Expect average precipitation. Kansas City has a 50-50 chance of seeing average rainfall amounts this summer.
June
June’s temperatures will have an air of familiarity. Temperatures are projected to fall between 69-85°, with an average high of 82°. That’s pretty standard for the Heartland, just don’t forget to slather on that sunscreen.
July
July is when we turn up the heat — but just a tad. July’s temperatures will fall between 80-89°. Not much rainfall is anticipated so plan for warm, clear days. Perfect for picnics on the Nelson-Atkins’ lawn.
August
Historically, the average high in August is 88° and the average low is 60°. It’s also when many local orchards open for apple and berry picking. Though some start as early as July.
Make the most of the sunny days
There’s no shortage of things to do in Kansas City this summer. Here are just a few of the activities our team is eyeing.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – One woman died Saturday night after she was shot in unknown circumstances, the Kansas City Police Department reported.
KCPD was dispatched to the 7600 block of Monroe Avenue around 10 p.m. on Dec. 28.
As officers were en route, a woman on her way to an area hospital flagged them down to let them know she had a shooting victim in her car who needed help.
When the officers pulled the woman out of the car, they noticed apparent gunshot wounds and started giving her medical treatment until paramedics arrived. The woman was ultimately taken to the hospital and later died.
Investigators do not currently know what led up to the shooting, nor do they have anyone in custody. They are searching for evidence and possible witnesses as they investigate the woman’s death as a homicide.
Her identity has not yet been released.

Kansas State just might add another accomplishment to a season that ended without a College Football Playoffs berth.
With Colorado’s 36-14 loss to BYU in the Alamo Bowl, the Wildcats can now at least make a case for being the No. 4 team in the Big 12. That would put them ahead of coach Deion Sanders and the Buffaloes.
Colorado entered the postseason with the fourth spot behind Arizona State, BYU and Iowa State. The Wildcats ended their season with a 44-41, comeback victory against Rutgers in the Rate Bowl. Iowa State also held off the Miami Hurricanes in the Pop-Tarts Bowl.
Baylor is awaiting its matchup with LSU in the Texas Bowl while TCU crushed Lafayette in the New Mexico Bowl and Texas Tech fell to Arkansas in the Liberty Bowl.
The Bears, Horned Frogs and Wildcats could all finish with four losses. K-State might get the edge because of their win against Colorado. The Buffaloes, who were led by quarterback Shedeur Sanders and Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter, defeated Baylor 38-31 in September. As for TCU, two of its losses were to bottom-tier UCF and Houston.
Although the Wildcats lost to Houston, it was their only loss to a team with a losing record. The other defeats were to BYU, Arizona State and Iowa State, all bowl teams. The title of fourth-best is meaningless but it could provide much-needed momentum heading into next season and serve as a recruiting pitch this spring.

Dense fog reduced visibility to less than a quarter mile in parts of central, south central, and southeast Kansas on Saturday morning, December 28, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).
Footage taken in Wichita by NWS meteorologist Kevin Darmofal shows his view of “another foggy start” to the day.
A dense fog advisory would remain in effect until 10 am CST, the NWS said.
